I can't say I'm surprised. You can't really expect decent game journalism from this magazine. It's literally the opinion of the staff alone. Any contrary opinion from ay other source is ignored. That's not journalism or critqueing, it's blogging. All and all, Walking Dead, Legion of Heroes, Guild Wars, Halo 4, Dragon's Dogma, .... even CoD Mwf and AC3 was more deserving. But the opinion of the reviewers are all that mattered, so it's just spouted opinion of people who couldn't get a job at an institution with real journalistic integrity.

Personally, my top three games this year were:

1) ME3
2) The Walking Dead
3) Spec Ops: The Line

I've yet to play Far Cry 3 and Halo 4, although I doubt they will displace ME3.

Let's face it, BioWare is doing the right thing.

You kind of need to hooker yourself out to these Awards/Magazines.  I just saw some TV add for some game that flashed IGN and GOTY in my face, as if I gave two sh*ts about that.  But I bet that someone does.  And I bet if you tell the advertisers to not show those awards because they don't matter, they'd look at you cross eyed.

Look at your average car commercial.  Telling you they won some award that was probably made by themselves.  Or, you know, something stupid, like 'Best four cylinder American Sports Sedan of the year.'  Because god knows you can't buy some other kind of car. 

So, in that regard, well done BioWare.  You are lord of the $2 Newark hookers, um rpg of the year in a landscape where we can't even call a video game an rpg anymore.  Now, go make some money off some suckers so I can keep playing your multiplayer game for free.

This pleases me. Not because I agree with their choice, which I do, but because I find utter irony in this. It's funny how BSN can lambaste favorable or positive reviews, but they don't think twice about teaming up with any negative review about ME3 or its content. And the cherry on top is that every time I come to BSN I see people squabbling that ME3 shouldn't even be given a GOTY nod, because it's so terrible and yet the GOTY nominations and awards are slowly trickling in with or without BSN. If irony were strawberries, we'd all be drinking strawberry smothies right now.

As I said, if an organization with more reputability than GameStop's pay-to-read ad service declared ME3 as Game of the Year, I'd respect that choice. But we don't have an Oscar or Emmy for games. The closest we have is Spike's little show, and GI seems more reputable than they do, at least to me.

I find any award given by GI or any of the gaming rags to be dubious at best. Until something more respectable develops, no game is ever really going to resonate as GotY.

Then there's no point to make a fuss about it.  People throw around the 75 "perfect scores" like it means something. I just personally, don't see the need to get mad at something that won't change their mind about the game itself, when THEY know it won't be GOTY worthy for THEM. 

It's like this is a big shocker... makes me laugh.

I am not suprised and I am happy about this. Just because something is controversial doesn't mean it is bad. The game was so amazing how could it not be GOTY. Well done Bioware.

If you are talking about 2000-now, gag me even more. Its not even in the top 50 of the past 12 years, with every other Bioware game since 2000 being above it.

If they took bribes from EA, Medal of Honor wouldn't have gotten scathed.

It's definitely the best game I've played this year. Not saying it's the greatest game ever, just the best one I've played from 2012.

Congratulations to Bioware! But I really do not take any form of magazine review on games seriously. Reviews by people that actually play the game are far more dependable and informative IMO.

I feel that Borderlands 2, XCOM or Halo 4 should have won it.
