He's the one on the record chuckling about what a boring wasteland the universe will be after the ending. So I think I'll keep blaming him and Hudson both.

Until somebody at BioWare rats out and reveals which person was or which people were responsible for this mess, that's exactly what you should do.

A simple question - why was Crucible presented as it is - unknown device with an unknown function which should interface with another unknown device, with unknown interface, unknown function, unknown location, unconfirmed existence or even need of it?
My answer is - to shoehorn Catalyst's garbage, and nonsensical magical choices.
Implications... :wizard:

I still think it's going to turn out to be a Reaper device, for those very reasons. :alien:Might even turn out to be a Harbinger device, according to one intriguing theory that states Harbinger is trying to overthrow the Catalyst, and has been for a VERY long time!

Oh yes, and more Harby! Does anyone know how to contact his voice actor, rather than relying on random Tweets for info?

My point was - Catalyst and ending choices were created at the start of the development process of ME3. :police:

Ah, I see. Though, are we sure that the ending/RGB were created even THAT early? The Final Hours app seems to indicate that they were thought up in the last few months of the game's development.

This is my assertion, based on Crucible being presented perfectly prepared for vastly different choices.
You know, if it was presented as some weapon with known function(like lowering shields, or just shooting reapers) - it would be nearly impossible to shoehorn something like control or synthesis.
And Crucible is a main plot device which created from the start of development.

I've never seen that theory before. I really like the notion of Harbinger becoming the overarching big-bad of the series. It would give even more weight to Mass Effect 2.

ah...so Harbinger (usher in of) tries to overthrow Sovereign (the king)?

This makes sense.

I'm not going to quote a pyramid, but re: the writing of the ending, I'd say it's pretty certain the ABC was written after EA had put their foot down and said ME3 was going to have to make the 2011 accounting. The 'Crucible' stuff is so vague probably for this very reason. When they wrote it they had no idea what this plot device would actually do.

Mac Walters, oh God

He better be writing a character

LOL.  Well, he has a chance to alter his legacy.  Right now, it stands as "author of the worst ending in gaming history" (according to some surveys).  Frankly, I hope he gets it right this time, for all of us.

I quite enjoyed Blasto, but pretty much nothing else by Mac Walters. However, the fact that all writers (except, of course, for the legend that is Drew Karpyshyn) are on board gives me some hope.

Judging from recent DLC, this will be a long but mostly linear corridor shooter with a few choices. We'll get a temporary hub that will disappear at the end of the mission, and a couple cameos from previous Mass Effects. I guarantee it will be $15.

Oh....I hope Mac is involved in the role of bringing coffee to the people doing the work....AND NOTHING ELSE. This DLC is basically the last chance for me to ever enjoy Mass Effect again and harboring hope seems to be pointless

Yeah, I'm really hoping this dlc will blow my mind and make so many of ME3's problems disappear. I know this probably won't happen, but who knows?

You can fix A LOT with imaginative writing. Let's hope they saved the best for last.

^^^^  this.... but the music is supposed to be piano + strings + tears, and the game is by Bioware whch means nothing happy comes at the end unless it is a community mod.

Just use MEHEM and call it a day.

Halo's soundtrack is Piano + strings and its epicnesa brings tears to my eyes....anything is possible with piano + strings

The problem is the pseudo artist with no leading experience writing the main plot

THIS!

So much this-would be nice to hear that Meers and Hale are returning.  That would really pique my interest.  But so far hearing only about crew members makes me wonder since they are so fantastic about dashing any and all hopes.

if Shepard is just standing up out of the rubble, Meer and Hale aren't necessary

Very much agreed.

But you know Mac will crush those dreams of ours and dance on their mangled corpses.
