Also realistically, its more likely that any children Shepard has will be everyday people who work normal jobs and don't have an impact on galactic affairs. If Shepard has a family, they should fade into obscurity.

I don't see anything wrong with that. They don't need to be superheroes to be great.

As for the video game aspect of it, mass effect is Commander Shepard. With his story ended, the series for me has ended. It's all headcanon for me from here on out. And I'm fine with that. Normal, boring, everyday life and jobs and all.

The issue I have it with it, isn't that it isn't too realistic. For example if you look at all of the Medal of Honor or Victoria Cross recipients, you won't find too many that have relatives that also won the medal. The children of those Medal of Honor or Victoria Cross recipients have generally grown up to be normal people working your average 9 to 5 job. The sane should be true with any children Shepard has, IMO.

Just out of curiosity though, why does the series end for you if Shepard isn't the protagonist?

Mass Effect wouldn't be the first series to have had more than one protagonist. Star Trek is a good example, with both Captain Kirk and Captain Picard. There isn't anything really preventing Bioware from creating a new protagonist who is as interesting as Shepard, or a new set of squadmates who are just as fun as Shepard's team.

For me? Yes. Shepard makes Mass Effect for me, without him it just doesn't seem like Mass Effect anymore. Just another war in space. Which with how things ended in Mass Effect 3, what more can really be done, truly? Now it just seems like a movement to milk the series for maximum profit. Something that seriously doesn't appeal to me at all. And it becomes a large turn off to continue with the 'series'. I think they should just leave it as a trilogy and be done with it. But that's just my opinion. There are obviously others that feel differently.
