I'm sorry, does Diana Allers ring a bell?

Yeah, because I don't need to follow the check from the advertising department to the reviewer's salary.

That's that 'Chinese Wall' level 'integrity' that prevents things like insider trading on Wall Street.

Oh, whoops.

Money, Diana Allers, sure.  I give this bang a 10/10.  Perfect score!<3

The answer to whether or not Mass Effect 3 deserved it is simple.

Would you agree that ME2 deserved Game of The Year?

If yes, then why the hell wouldn't ME3 deserve it as well? Excluding the final five minutes, Mass Effect 3 was a brilliant game and an improvement overall on Mass Effect 2. The combat was better, the customization was better, the story overall was better, the enemies were better, the graphical style was better, the journal for some god-forsaken reason was made worse, and I'd argue that the side missions were done better as well, as opposed to the fetch quests.

But overall, ME3 made improvements on ME2 that makes it deserving of a game of the year award. The ending infuriated many, me included originally, but looking at it from a game perspective you can not argue that it isnt one of the best games of the year.

Not everyone agrees that ME3 was better. The combat felt like it went backward in difficulty (enemies are push overs unlike before)and realism was lacking as well (space ninjas lol wut). The customization actually diminished the game's rpg value by underming the class system in favor of action. Style wise ME3 seems cartoonish to me just look at the enemy defense bars for example. If you feel ME3 deserves GOTY that's fine but not everyone necessarily agrees ME3 was an improvement.

But don't you know? You only pretend to dislike these things, obviously everyone who criticizes the game is only criticizing because of the endings. I can tell because I read minds. /sarcasm

5 minutes into the game I already saw a lot of things wrong with it. I actually went into the game with no spoilers, had avoided all ads, everything. My expectations were really low (because of ME2). The ending being a fiasco was only icing on the cake. ME3 doesn't even have a shadow of a rpg...  ME2 is a masterpiece if compared to it.

To be fair, it's not up for best story. I think that boat sailed when king douche had to make a video defending the ending. But they did put it in the RPG category? (being cynical, think it was put there so it could win an award. Because Halo isn't getting beat on best shooter).

Also I was going to vote ME3 for best music but Hotline Miami was one of the options.

for RPG GOTY I've no problem with.

same like 2010, there is no better RPG than ME2 (FONV is up for challenge but
it's buggy and unfinished product), TW2 is between 2011-2012.

but for GOTY? didn't think so... there are a lot of games that do overall better than
ME3 (AC3, FC3, Halo 4, Borderlands 2)

best story? well no... I think that is for Spec Ops The Line or Walking Dead.

Not exactly surprising, is it? Popular games generate site traffic. Site traffic generate money. So nominating popular games generates money. Simple as that, and it's IGN's modus operandi since it exists. Who cares about that bunch of sellouts anyhow?

Sweet! Still got a ways to go to catch ME2's numerous GOTY awards though.

I honestly don't think IGN would give it to ME3. They've given more praise to Halo 4.

I kind of agree. Outside of the last few minutes, it was (for me) a really great game.

Not for me.  I for one didn't enjoy the horrible journal, the fetch quests, the auto-dialogue, the lack of any hub worlds, or Jessica Chobot.

Add the Romances to that list and other variations of Character Assassinations (Cerberus included) and cleche' writing AND forced emotion AND lack of an explination or follow up to previous game's topics.

And in other news:  water is wet and the sky is blue -_-

The sky isn't really blue. It only appears that way because that's the name we've given that color.

Erm, not quite  http://spaceplace.nasa.gov/blue-sky/

This was taught to me some 16+ years ago in high school, grade 10 physics .. not common knowledge?

lol... wow, you actually took that seriously and tried to disprove what I said. I was quoting George Carlin... it's a joke. :D

One of the things that annoyed me with ME3 was the fact that there were fetch quests everywhere that never really went beyond going to a place and pick up a certain object to deliver to someone you eavesdropped on before. That and the journal log was so broken that most of the times, I had to look it up, because I had no way of knowing if the thing I was looking for was on the Citadel or on some planet deep within Reaper territory.

At one point, I asked myself: What the hell is even the point? I can get all the war assets I need through the multiplayer (which only serves to strengthen the fact that the whole system is such a meta-game concept) and I really don't think these assignments are fun to do, because there's nothing special about them. They're tedious at best.

All that time wasted on making those fetch quests could have gone towards anything else.

Didn't help that it felt like Cerberus was the main focus instead of the Reapers, as it felt as if I came in contact with them instead of facing the Reapers in certain locations one would think they'd want to take over instead of some random warehouse. Like the Citadel. Would have made much more sense if the Reapers had gone after the Council. I could almost hear whoever decided all of this beating his meat furiously whenever I fought Cerberus too.

It's certainly worthy of the nomination, but I'm nebulous as to whether it's enough to garner the Game of The Year title. There are a few too many major issues with Mass Effect 3(besides the Beat-A-Dead-Horse-Subject of the ending) that are keeping me from the vote. There are quite a few elements that made it a highlight of the year, but I can't consider it the pinnacle of gaming for the last 365 days.

Someone With Mass made some good points. While the fetch quests didn't bother me as much, it was done a few too many times for my liking and probably should've been replaced with higher quality missions.

The combat felt like it went backward in difficulty (enemies are push overs unlike before)and realism was lacking as well (space ninjas lol wut).

Which is interesting, considering I remember Mr. Priestly reccomending to gamers not to pick insanity because it was too difficult. It may have better variety in combat now, but the overall difficulty isn't that hard.
