Ten whole pages and I'm amazed nobody has posted this. Come on, a lot of you are thinking about it. Allow me:

EDIT: Starting off with page 11! Oh yeah!

When I first saw this thread I misread "IGN nominates" as "Ignominious".

Rule 6 is that you do not talk about IGN

On the contrary, posting single images with nothing to support the discussion is rule #6.

I know. Maybe they think it's slander?

Which is interesting, considering I remember Mr. Priestly reccomending to gamers not to pick insanity because it was too difficult. It may have better variety in combat now, but the overall difficulty isn't that hard.

Well, they said that Platinum couldn't be solo'd either.

A little video about reviewers being paid, since some of you can't use common sense.

I am not surprised, they have one of their staff apart of the game. Anyway it's not like anyone takes IGN seriously.

And took like 2 hours after that difficulty was released for them to be proved wrong.

Folks, big sites gets early access to the big games, by being positive towards them. Thus getting more hits and more money. There's been also stories about how reviewers flown to exotic locations and showered with gifts, play the game and then flown back. I remember even reading one story about a reviewer getting gifted with a night with an expensive call girl.

Don't you ever wonder, why games like GTA 4, MGS 4, COD series and ME 3 gets such an absurd high score? They're good games, but they're not the second coming of gaming.

Reviewers getting invited to lavish parties, I'm sure that would never affect the score of a game, right?

Videogame journalism and ethics.

It made my top ten list for the year, but wasn't in my number one spot. It deserves the nomination as it was well put together. I've sunk more hours into Mass Effect 3 this year than I have either of the MMOs I play, granted that's a lot of multiplayer, but that's still part of the game.

Grats on the nomination BioWare.

Interesting video.

I think these picutres sums up things pretty well and explains what people mean by "paid reviews".

It's not about getting money. It's about getting benefits. "paid reviews" is just a figure of speech.
Though one can understand sites like IGN. Getting a review out first on a big hyped game means lots of hits on their site. I get that it can be hard to resist for them and other sites.

I find it incredibly hard to believe that EA payed off 74 critics to give the game good reviews. You'd think they'd miss a few and the game would have gotten some mixed review but nope.

But seriously, grasping at straws much?

Big question is, how much are they paying you to cover their asses all the time? If they're not, you should definitely ask for some compensation for all your whiteknighting effort.

Explain to me then why their are no proffesional critics who gave Mass Effect 3 a ****ty score? EA obviously payed off some but I find it incredibly hard to believe they could find and bribe every single noteworthy gaming site.

I'm sorry, it just is not possible they could pay off everyone.

But the real question is, how many shares do you have in EA?
It's either that or you are just a victim of blind fanboy-ism.

Oh come on... when they give few thousands of dollars or the other benefits to few hungry journalist across the world they will gain much more then with journalist doing their job with objective critique. When you can make hundreds of millions from game then you don´t give a crap about few thousands of dollars for few journalist.

One guy even got fired for his personal review. That's just sad.

Shows the credibility of the video game reviewers in general too.

In the case with IGN, they got one of their employees in the game, which makes them kind of biased, since I'd imagine that an honest review (in which the writer has played through the entire game and not just skimmed through it to meet the deadline) would either be hilariously suppressed or result in someone getting fired.

At least, it wouldn't surprise me one bit.

Also, all that talk about the ridiculous number of positive reviews (about 70 or so) doesn't impress me nor does it change my opinion at all, since the majority of them could have just been selectively plucked from small time reviewers. Or even product reviews from Amazon or other shopping sites and we all know how credible those are.

They cannot get all of them. Some would refuse, others they would miss. If Mass Effect 3 was truly a horrible game there would be some negative critic reviews, there are not.

I'd say everything over 90 on that list is liable to have been paid off.

That's because there's nothing professional about the reviewers. They've just managed to get a lot of attention through very positive reviews which the developers plastered on the front of the cover (seriously, have you seen the cover to Batman: Arkham City? The review scores are taking up more space than the actual title), which doesn't automatically mean that the reviewer's work involves any kind of skill.

Any schmuck can run around and yell: "10/10! GOTY! BEST GAME EVAH!"

there are no "proffesional critics" :)

And they don't need to "pay off" everyone. Just make sure the larger sites play nice and chances are that the smaller will follow.
