I don't understand this. I've played around 5 or 6 games since the challenge thing started with players who have the BotB banner. Not one of them were great players. This is on PC. They actually just seemed like the average, run-of-the-mill PUG. How can this be? I always hear N7 rank, scores, banners, etc. don't mean anything, but looking at what you need to get that banner, mediocre players shouldn't be able to do it. At least not in the time between inception of the challenge system and now. Mind boggling.

Must be nice to have that much free time on their hands, huh?

Most banners only require a commitment of time and not necessarily that the player actually be the best at anything. Besides having a lot of free time.

1. Are they lagging?

2. Are they in the same country as you?

3. Does time spent in game mean automatic skill increase?

4. Do they have skilled friends for Video Guy circlejerks for certain tasks?

It takes time to get the banners, not skill. Some of them may be screwing around with odd, inefficient builds because they have been playing certain builds for banners for so long. Some players may in-fact be average players compared to other players.

Take your pick. Personally, I destroy the boards when I play kits that I play well and let's face it, some kits are just insane for leveling entire waves in no time BUT when I play a kit I'm not at all familiar with I'm sure I seem average as well.

I've played with a few, most of them were good, but I did have a funny experience with one of them...

Best of best the banner player was the host, using high level equipment on gold, while a low n7 human adept joins, sporting a Vindicator 2 with stability and ammo mods, and no gear or equipment. Game was Geth on Goddess... fast forward to the end of the game, "best of the best" guy only outscored the adept because he used a missile on the extraction wave.

So yeah...

P.S.: I left out any info about the "best of the best" guy kit just to avoid exposing him/her too much. For the record though, they were using a maxed UR weapon.

You still need to play at least two solo games on gold. You also need to play at least 100 waves on gold on most maps for Map Mastery. All in all, I'd say some skill is involved.

Some great players may not bother to do challenges at all, though.

I have seen about 10-12 BotB banner holders so far and all them were more than capable Platinum standard players including me. There may be exceptions to this trend but I have not seen a single BotB banner holder that I would consider not worthy of the title. They are more likely to try different builds and weapons and sometimes that might not work out so well but that does not mean they suck.

As far as I know, I met more people without it that are too good, then people with it. Also, only person I met so far that has it AND is an amazing player as implied is xcalizorz.

PC here, I've only seen the banner once and the player was very good.

The only thing I'd have to say is that a player who has the BotB banner has played a ton of games. I've played a ton of games, most of them I do very well but sometimes we all have bad games. I wouldn't consider it fair to me if a player saw me play a bad game and then assumed I'm a terrible player.

I'd expect a player with the BotB banner to have a complete manifest, and tons of gear (always using equipment), never hesitating to use medi-gel or rockets. I wouldn't expect them to top the scoreboard just because of that banner.

Its a grind. Some very good players have the banner, but not all the people with the banner are very good players.

So you somehow believe that banners translate to skill?

i know some BotB and can outscore me sometimes :)

but in general BotB players have more skill than normal players and sometimes only have the banner xD (so far I know of none that are bad).

Lol. Once I get the BotB banner, I'll just sit back and chill. Scores don't matter too much if we finish the money rounds/ extraction and I don't die too much. If I do die stupidly, I gel for my mistake. Sporting a BotB banner does not mean that you have to top the scorboard all the time.

BotB banner = more time played and commitment to challenges
Just depends on if the time spent developed better muscle memory or not.
And their is always base skill/reactions, some can't be improved past a glass ceiling.
All that and there are factors like lag, mood, and laziness, They just spent blahblah hours/days/months getting a banner and all the challenges, maybe they just want to sit back and chill. Extraction > everything as long as no one is getting carried too hard.

That just proves they're at least an average player... Soloing gold is a joke with kroguard + cyclonic or a TGI.

Best of the Best only means that they have completed all of the challenges at least once. I am about 20 games out from that banner....

I have it and have played with two other people with it and only one of them I would consider good.

All of the challenges can be done in silver and bronze negating any skill. With the exception of Nomad and Lone Wolf, but soloing isn't too hard if you are comfortable playing with randoms on Gold, and Nomad all you have to do is complete waves so you could technically just play gold games up to 5 waves and then wipe and somehow "master" it. So it really just shows that you like the game a lot to play it so much and are an above average player.

The easiest way to determine skill is player setups (guns/classes/equipment), sometimes I misjudge skill levels and end up having to really try to carry the team to victory. This will end up with me starting a new game using no equipment and then giving them a few words of encouragement before leaving them to their inevitable doom.

Grinding bronze takes skill...? That's all you need to do for 90% of the banners...

Don't forget that some people do have the banner but don't display it because it's ugly and because being called "Best of the Best" is kinda ridiculous.
