So with DAO. we have something akin to loss leader pricing (true loss leader pricing entails the initial product is sold at a loss, here that doesn't appear to be the case but there is a glaringly obvious difference in value for money between the initial product and its followups that implies a similar long term recouping strategy - but I can't for the life of me remember the proper economics term for the pricing strategy that's like loss leader pricing but where the initial sale price doesn't go so low as to make an actual loss). We get to smile with glee at getting a great value for money deal on the initial outlay, and then get to feel a little milked by subsequent less-good-value-for-money deals. It might not feel fair, but some of the alternative models suck too in different ways. If there's a model that we can come up with that works better, I'm sure it would be considered. I'm working on itBut in the meantime the fairplay dude living in my brain would still rather pay x amount of money for a product that is worth x, even if it looked funny on a price tag.
Free waffles with each purchase would be a model I could accept.

Guys think better, there are games that only have 4-6 hours gameplay nowadays and they cost over 50 dollars, so think better before you judge.

You get what is most likely a new origin sotry (the orlesian warden), a huge branching quest (if there's as much important decision making as they're touting, you can easily play it multiple times and get entirely different results), new enemies (that can be used in future mods), new abilities for the each class, new specializations and a good chunk of new party members.
Yes, the base game was an exceptional bang for the buck, but not everything Dragon Age related has to be. If you have a job, there's no reason you can't afford the extra $10-$20 over your "ideal" price.

It's not just the gameplay hours damnit.
No sorry game length seems to be the only deciding factor on how good a game is. It must be true I read it on the internet...

Oh yah i forgot the main game was on time. The warden keep and stone prisoner made it into the main game on time. Return to ostagar was out in the holiday season.
This expansion will be out march. I'm going to preorder now. So excited!

The price will sting a bit, it's true, but I'll get it anyway. I love Dragon Age to bits and I've gotten everything available for it thus far. Bioware's done good by me (except for, maybe, having all the dlc distributed among different companies. that was annoying), so I'll pay a bit extra for this.

Gonna have to hold off on answering that poll until I get more info on what is actually in the expansion pack unfortunately. At the moment I'm thinking it may be worth it, but want to see more details before I go ahead and confirm.

Why would anyone be excited over this expansion being released in march? What are the chances of it being released on time given the track record?

No, I don't care howm much it cost them. What matyters to me is howm much *I* value what I buy. This is how I determine how much I'll willing to spend on producvts and if the pricem is too high, I skip it altogether or wait til it is lowered.
This whining about the pricing is silly since as has been stated previously, this isn't new. All of BIo's previous expansions were about the same anyways. *shrug*

Im still trying to figure out what any of that has to do with the price of the expansion (I think its that he is just overemotional angty and feels he needs to spread his spam out from the RtO delay thread)
As for the topic I have yet to find this 15 hour benchmark for the expansion that everyone is ranting on about.

At the very least the call for "boycott! boycott!" was quickly squashed. Because that worked so well with CoD: MW2. The truth of it is, not everyone will buy the expansion the moment it drops. Probably most won't. But really, in the long run, if you've bought the game already and enjoyed it, the likelihood that you'll buy it at some point is pretty high. People will spend money on things they enjoy, nurr.
BioWare will eventually get ur monies.

What is odd to me is that yesterday Gamestop had the PC version listed at $29.99, but today it is $39.99, just like the consoles. What gives?
Gamestop doesn't really care about it's PC customers. The console versions have release dates but the PC doesn't.
In fact, initially the console versions being listed for sale was sort of the nail in the coffin of Awakening being leaked. At that time there was no PC version listed.
I'm not a big fan of Gamestop, if you haven't noticed. Worked both there and EB Games and EB was a far superior store (and it wasn't that great, to be honest, but much better) IMO. I wasn't happy when Gamestop bought EB.
I remember that I ordered Baldur's Gate 2 from EB, in fact.

While for many, the value of an expansion like this is just the "15 extra hours", keep in mind that the actual cost of creating it goes way beyond that. Many of the new features in the expansion can likely affect the rest of the game so that means making sure new things interact with old things, and you know by now that there are a lot of old things. It means a lot of testing and a lot of code re-writing and content modifications.
So is this confirmation that it is only 15 hours of extra gameplay, to me that should be DLC rather than seem as an "Epic" expansion. It shounds good though just again like some of the DLC poor value for money in terms of size vs price.

A side not, a lot of people who are cringing at the price is not because they can't afford it. Its because they don't think it will be worth it. Its an important distinction. Just because you can afford to buy something doesn't mean its a good deal or that you aren't being a sucker.
As for why the price is so high, look at EA stock price lately. It is $18 a share, it got hammered in 2008 and was at one time $60 a share. And 2009 was another down year for video games in terms of sales because of the bad economy. So there is maybe a good reason EA needs to try and squeeze as much money as they can out of their customers. God knows their stock price needs it.

Is he a Bioware represenitive making a statement on the record that the expansion is 15 hours?
Go ahead find the statement by a BW rep that makes this claim because no one else has been able to do it.
While were at it who said its a "epic" expansion? I saw "Embark on an epic story" on this page http://dragonage.bioware.com/awakening
Sorry if I come off as rude but it is so damn disturbing to see how many people out there operate on here say, assumptions, rumors, or just add embelishments out of thin air like it is some "epic" expansion.
