Dragon Age Origins: Awakening for $40?

Yes, on a per-hour basis, it's not as efficient as buying the original DAO, but it still seems reasonable, cheaper than going to the movies for the same time.

I know the studio will deliver. The studio proves they want to deliver the 'best' to their customers. They interact a lot with the community in a down to earth manner on their forums. It's the studio I love most.
EA and its ethics definitely don't make me want to just fork over $$$ without questioning. Besides CDProjektRED, only Blizzard has a reputation with me that makes me totally not question $$$.
Now I've never played The Witcher but I've heard it was awesome from reviews & forums. The onyl issue there, I could be wrong is they probably didn't have much of a choice not being a well known company. So they probably took as hot in the dark with high hopes it would pay off to build their name for their next gib game or a sequal.
My point is most companies in this day & age cannot afford to just give out free patches, expansion, hours of gameplay but i feel like a fool for missing out on the Witcher. I think I wasted my time on Oblivion instead sadly
It's never too late to add one of the greatest RPGs to your collection and enjoy it in its current state
As for patches, which originally are to fix commonly accepted flaws and plain old bugs should always be free of charge. Another business manager term "customer after-service" comes to mind here. Things get icky when new (sometimes buggy) content is pushed like our (in)famous DLC instead of needed game patches. I'm the first to believe that the studios themselves would love to invest in customer care and after service to bolster their reputation. But as I'm sure with in Bioware's case: They have a leach around their neck with inward spikes. A little symbol imprinted in the steel chain segments...: EA.

Awekening is surely gonna be just like mass effect 2
You can continue your adventure from original game and that will be affected by ending
and DA:O second expanion or DA 2 will be affected by both original game and expansion

Go to anyone's profile that lasted (like me) over 100 hours and read over their story progression to see how long sections took people. It's playstyle, my friend.

Who cares what a game cost in 1989? Things get cheaper if you've somehow missed that. A good computer cost you tenthousands when computers were new. What 60$ then would be today is totally irrelevant.
This goes back to an earlier in this thread discussion -

-because, contextually, you seem to be continuing the discussion about games from 20 years ago and prices. Unless there's some very subtle context I am missing, the way you're responding implies that in the same paragraph in which you respond to a statement about game prices over 20 years, in the sentence following your sentence about the best games for PC's 20 years ago selling for $15-20 max -
(inaccurate, do a google
search next time - here's an article listing a couple computer games
from 1989 that cost $59.95 - Leisure Suit Larry 3 and Microsoft Flight
Simulator 4.0 - http://pqasb.pqarchi...py&pqatl=google and another article with games at $79.95 and $49.95 - http://pqasb.pqarchi...re&pqatl=google)
you are continuing with the 20 year old game model when bringing up a decline in quality.
But to rebut your points, somethings (technology due to advancements) get cheaper, other things (due to inflation, shortages, increased demand, or increased complexity) get more expensive. Computers, relatively in dollars adjusted for inflation, are "cheaper" often, but cars and houses and gas are more expensive.
When computers were "new" no normal person could afford ENIAC or Zuse Z3 were created. Unless you count abacuses. However, in 1989 a "typical" PC computer's price, unadjusted for inflation, was around $1000. You could, however, get a C64 for about $100 at the time and it played all the games coming out (Wasteland, Pools of Radiance, Knights of Legend, etc.) often with better graphics and sound than an IBM PC.
It "matters", BTA1, because more than one person's complaint in this thread is about the "increase" in prices for computer games, and about amount of content in a game for price. Looking back, computer games were always about this price (more if you adjust for inflation) and had far LESS content than this expansion will offer. Really, that expansion will probably have more gameplay than many $60 games that came out in 1989.
I swear it seems like people often pull numbers and facts out of where it feels like their heads are. Seriously.

Haha very good response, i loved reading every word! I know it is not too late to enjoy The Witcher!! I'm just set on DA:O now. I thought the release of AVp & SC:C would break my habit but doubtful considering I just started the first book & I like it better than the game so far!! lol. So I'll be reading two books, finishing my 3rd play through then enjoying DLC(soon hopefully) & finallyan awesome expansion!!!!! Then if I get a break from new DLC & expansions I can jump over to The Witcher!!!

You are the one classifying those people as whiners, not I.
I never specified anywhere that I consider anyone asking about price a whiner, and those people have every right to ask questions about the price. However, just plain complaining about it because they don't want to pay that much for the "stated" 15 hours of playtime is whining if they have no reason for it. Don't want to pay it? Don't buy it. Simple.
On another note, you do realize that Bioware gets money, whether it's yours or not, every time the expansion is bought? They're not losing anything if you get it as a gift. You also think Bioware is simply greedy, and that that is where the price comes from. You must know nothing of production costs. They have new voice actors to pay, music compostions, bug testing. These things take many people hours of time to perform.
I think you're what I'd call a whiner.

Dragon Age: Origins - $40
DLC's - ~ $5
Awakening Expansion - $30
Wading through pages, upon pages, of self-absorbed drivel and pontification - Priceless
Way to jump all over the place - how about we try FACTS in CONTEXT for TODAY's prices:
Dragon Age: Origins = [XBOX 360 & PS3] - Gamestop: $59.99; Best Buy: $59.99; Wal-Mart: $59.96/$50; Amazon: $56.99/$50 // [PC] Gamestop: $49.99; Best Buy: $49.99; Wal-Mart: $49.96; Amazon: $44.99
DLC's = Free for many w/ game purchase; $5 for 1, $7 for the other
Awakening Expansion = Current Pre-order Price for all systems at Gamestop: $39.99; no price point elsewhere yet
So the worst different right now (the only one that counts as it is only available for pre-order at Gamestop) is $49.99 to $39.99, but odds are the PC price will actually be $10 cheaper. Up to $20 difference.
AND ... none of that means anything, you realize? You have no point but attempted ridicule.
you forgot black friday & newegg.com Dragon age was $29.99 & 34.99 for a week or more plus if you give a game a month newegg.com usually has it $5-10 cheaper with free shipping if not within a week or less of launch. i got Forza 3 for $37.99 on newegg about a week after it came out.
I didn't "forget" - I specifically said "how about we try FACTS in CONTEXT for TODAY's prices."
But if you want to add newegg for today, it's not the cheapest ATM either -
Newegg: [XBOX 360/PS3] - $56.99; [PC] - $44.99
Amazon is cheaper overall, Wal-mart beats the PS3 price.
And again, this is an irrelevant point. I just wanted the facts clear.
Doing what the poster initially did with jumping around with prices would be like me saying -
MW2: $5
Call of Duty: $50
Anyone who bought Call of Duty was way ripped off as compared to buying Modern Warfare 2.
- if I chose to look to the future bargain bin prices of MW2 and compare that to the original price of the original Call of Duty when it was released.

Haha. Yes I am aware Bioware still gets money, thanks for solving that mystery...it was tough. Reading is hard though, I don't care if they get money they'll get money no matter what price they ask. I care if they get my money.
Also the greedy comment doesn't stem only from the random shift in price from $30-$40 but the new strategy of DLC. I'm not saying the DLC wasn't fun, I felt it was worth every last penny. All I am saying is it seems that their new plan now with EA holding their leash is to charge us $5 for 30 minutes of content almost every single month for the next 2 years. I don't blame them, why not make money if it is that easy to just milk us & we will pay it. i was simply pointing out its greedy to push but luckily high demand + dumb consumers = lots of money with very few questions asked!!!!!

I think it will be well worth it for the plot alone. Not counting new specializations, skills, talents, characters...the works!!!!!! I'm shocked they didn't bump up the console price you think they would of made it $50 to even it, they could easily get $50 console gamers seem to care little about price. I mean look at RE5. haha

Bioware has to cover their own so we'll get "it depends on the player" which is fine b/c it obviously does I'm sure some people will only get 6 hours of of the expansions while others might get 25. So it is crying and whining because I stated DLC was expensive?
Nope, never specified nor did I even mean you. Meant it more as a generalization to people who saying DLC is ruining the industry.
You can postulate theories around DLC keeping game prices low, but I don't believe that to be the case. I do believe DLC is a relatively new market, and it makes money. Other than those two obvious facts, we know nothing about the impact of DLC on the price of the OC or the profit margins on either.
Some what true. While it is impossible to draw anything concrete about the theory it does hold enough water when you look at everything around the developing business. Like I said budgets are running nine figures for AAA titles these days, a game like Dragon Age may have cost EA somewhere around $75m-$100m between developing, advertising, promos, production, and distribution. 2.5m-3.5m copies need to be sold to break even, let alone make any profit. Companies producing AAA titles can't survive like that, so they go one of two ways. Raise prices ala Modern Warefare 2, or find other means to gain profit. Behold the franchise, DLC which can have a huge profit margin, expansions function the same has large DLC's in terms of profit, sequels, merchandise, licensing, ect. are all means of means of making up profit.
Obviously nothing conclusive, but there are many articles out there on development and gaming budgets, put two and two together and you get an idea.
In any case, I will continue waiting for most games to age before purchasing to keep the price down. I made an exception with Dragon Age due to the quality of past Bioware releases, but I'll probably resign myself to delayed purchasing for Bioware products with the increase in pricing. Not as some mythical boycott, but as normal purchasing practice.
A very smart move. Personally I prefer to give myself a monthly budget, get myself what I want when I want it, damned the cost so long as I don't go over my budget. If I do it's wait until next month.
I will concede that standard business practice now puts many titles in this price range. Even so, I still find it difficult to swallow the higher prices.
It's the reality of business, prices will always go up and rarely go down. As the video game industries market share grows, companies are going to be much bolder with their money in an attempt to make it grow even more. MW2 just had a $200m launch budget, these companies have to recoup that. Part of the problem is what the consumer demands and expects from these AAA titles. As the player bases demand that it be just as big and much better then the last and come out as quick as possible companies are going to keep raising the budget.
Personally I understand it's going to happen and understand that's simply the way it works so I don't find price increases hard to swallow. Obviously I'd prefer it if id didn't, hell I'd love for games to be sold for $10. But that's not the way it works, when the price goes up I buy less games, if the price goes up even higher and my paycheck doesn't I stop gaming. That's all.

Levels and time played are completely different. There's only so much experience available in the game, so Bioware can estimate that quite easily. Gameplay, however, they can't know how many sidequests a player will do, how much time each of those sidequests will take that player, and how often the player will lose fights and thus have to reload.

I am beating a dead horse here, honestly, and I have bought computer parts from newegg and been happy with them, so I'm not attacking them. They are a fine online retailer.
But those Amazon prices were not from other sellers through Amazon. And Amazon gives free shipping for their sales over $25.
