Levels and time played are completely different. There's only so much experience available in the game, so Bioware can estimate that quite easily. Gameplay, however, they can't know how many sidequests a player will do, how much time each of those sidequests will take that player, and how often the player will lose fights and thus have to reload.

That's not true though. They could do a run that involves only the main story & without skipping any dialogue or cut scenes. That would give us a base time frame, like if you rush & do the bare minimum you'll have 10 hours which very few of us would do so we could look forward to a minimum of 10 hours of gameplay.
It's not really asking that much but I do understand they have to cover their own ass against annoying people rushing through it then posting all over the forums "i finished Awakening in 5 hours!" as if we would care that they missed out on so much content. lol.

lol I don't really care about the details I was just simply saying you forgot a major retailer! to me at least!lol. Newegg usually beats just about anyone but it really depends on the game. Amazon if you get it used or from a questionable seller will almost always be cheaper but free shipping from the egg while i know i'm buying it from a trusted vendor plus super fast shipping!!!! lol it doesn't really matter i was just pointing out you left them out.  haha

I am beating a dead horse here, honestly, and I have bought computer parts from newegg and been happy with them, so I'm not attacking them.  They are a fine online retailer.

But those Amazon prices were not from other sellers through Amazon.  And Amazon gives free shipping for their sales over $25.

Just saying.:innocent:

HAS it actually been confirmed BY BIOWARE that the estimated time of completion for the expansion is 15 hours, or is this pure speculation?

The fact that not one of the people complaing about the 15 hours have been able to provide any proof....

Well, if I didn't "speculate" that the expansion was 15 hours, I would have no basis to complain :kissing: And, Bioware might provide a 15 hour expansion for, say, $40 because they did not know that "I" wouldn't buy it (me and a lot of others, it seems).

Anyhow, I know none of the posts are aimed at me personally. I am clarifying for only one reason.

If Bioware is giving us significantly "more than 15 hours", all they need do is "say so" in this thread. If they do not respond, then -- we have to speculate 15 hours (or less) may be right.

That's not fair though b/c they only have like 2 guys that monitor & actually respond on these forums regularly & no offense to them but they tend to know little to nothing or just give out very little information if any. I doubt they are searching high & low to please us or even care how long we think it is. I really bet no one will answer that Q any time before launch if ever.

Oh, they could tell you exactly how long it takes to play through the add-on. They're just obviously not allowed to do so right now. But that doesn't mean the "15 hours or less" is true, it could easily be more, and they'd still not tell. We'll know the truth soon enough, and then we'll either have a lot of additional "Thank you, BioWare" threads - or the complaining will reach new heights. Not that either would matter much.

I don't understand this mentality. So quality has no guage in your decision on purchasing a product? The word expansion has biased your decision so much that even if it's a perfect masterpiece you won't touch it until a price drop? I mean would you buy it if Bioware labeled it as a true sequel and kept the price the same?

$40 (currently about 28 €) i can pay for an expansion, seems pretty much the standard expansion price to me. 15h seem short, but it depends more on what you get to do during those 15h, and how much it varies between different characters.

It seems that nowadays when production values go up, game lenght goes down, it is understandable, but still unfortunate. I blame the mandatory voice acting, performed by highly paid professionals :D

Quality is an issue. I enjoyed DA:O. I will consider purchasing an expansion. But it wasn't the greatest RPG I ever played or anything. It was a very good game, but the mechanics are extremely simplistic. I expected replay value, but I'm finding it hard to get excited for a second play-through.

The DLC so far have been very short. The Mass Effect Pinnacle Station DLC was very disappointing.

Why should I assume this expansion will be fantastic?

I'm not saying anything about assuming the quality. You just flat out said $30 is the most you'll pay for an expansion and I just didn't understand why one would think solely on those means. Come release if it gets reviewed as a mediocre expansion and you don't want that quality for that price that's cool, I just didn't get your initial comment.

5$ for the next download with around 1 hour play. Expansion pack 15 hours of play and by that math EA will want 75$.. 40$ to them will sound like a great deal.

I'm not paying anything for an expansion to a bad game. I'll pay $30 for an expansion that I think will be enjoyable. If I can get a new game for $50 that I can hopefully get 40 good hours out of, why would I pay $40 for an expansion that I'll likely only get 10-15 hours out of?

There are other games I haven't gotten around to playing yet like The Witcher and King's Bounty I'll likely grab instead. Bioware/EA just lost my business with that price.

I thought the price was steep especially since consoles won't be privy to Toolset Expansions. I would love to see a more reasonable price tag on "Awakening". However, the game already is extremely satisfying to play without monthly cost like MMO games. MAYBE the expansion cost will be worth it.

I think it will be well worth it for the plot alone. Not counting new specializations, skills, talents, characters...the works!!!!!! I'm shocked they didn't bump up the console price you think they would of made it $50 to even it, they could easily get $50 console gamers seem to care little about price. I mean look at RE5. haha

Yes, charge full game price for not a full game but an expansion. Don't give EA any ideas mate

I think Bioware should follow other game companies like Bethesda and make the expansion $19.99 or at the most $29.99. I think this would do a lot to improve the company's image based on the fiasco with RTO and the customer support issues received from EA now that they are one company.

I'd buy the expansion for those prices. Thats about what I pay now for expansions/old games

That is something I totally don't get. Why hire over the top celebs for voice acting a game while there could be hundreds of eager voice actors waiting for a debut chance.? I tell you, when I heard the voice acting of DA I never once went like "omg that's celeb X or Y", mostly because I'm not a US citizen; these celebs not being part of my culture. I have no doubt an unknown Mr X could have voice acted just as real and convincing as any of these high profile celebs. I couldn't care any less about the idea certain celebs spoke for DA.

I do get it. It's all marketing and wanna-be blockbusting. The risk is that the game MUST succeed to cover the cost. Question yourselves this: Would DA still be praised for its voice acting if they were done by incognito people, yet with the same quality? One thing's for sure, production costs would have been a lot lower. It may have yielded new talent and EA would have seen a higher net profit provided gamesales would have been equal regardless of VAs used. I know, the latter is a bit of speculation voicing my thoughts on this subject ;)

Voice acting is also different from stage acting, or acting in film. You're often better off getting a dedicated voice actor than a celebrity.

I'm complaining to Bioware about these ridiculously low prices immediately!

Exactly my thoughts. As i say in every gaming forums, usually several times: have your janitor and cleaning lady voice the important parts, leave the rest as text only, and use the money saved to improve the important parts of the game. Don't take the first part literally ;)

First off, I'm still buying it.

If it's really a problem for you, then don't ****, just flat out don't buy it.

And to all the people who are surprised game prices haven't gone up, you shouldn't be. Recessions and depressions are when the gaming industries thrives. 20$ a person for a day of fun at the amusement park or $60 for multiple days of fun with a game? The systems and games just tend to be cheaper in the long run and have better value.

Considering how disappointed I was (and continue to be - I'm playing through all the storylines to see if anything eventually strikes me as truly original. I mean, come on.. rip-offs EVERYWHERE. The Andraste Urn Guardian remind anyone ELSE of the templar, in Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade?) with DAO, it's unlikely I'll buy the expansion. I'll snag the Ostagar DLC, 'cause, well, I have loads of credits to buy junk with, but unless they reduce the price of the expansion, I'll either nevere bother, buy it when it's no longer a hot item, and is greatly reduced in price, or maybe pay for it somewhere in betwen those 2 circumstances, because I'm really bored.

DAO REALLY let me down. Never thought I'd say hat about a BioWare game.

I guess you poor folk better save 10 dollars a month so you can afford by March this extremely expensive expansion. you'll just have to add another 10 dollars to make it though...^_-
