And these people are going to fight piracy? Good luck.

This.

I mean, I love DA and support bioware all the way, but by pulling crap like this they kind of forfiet any right to complain that other people are ripping THEM off.

40 bucks aint bad, me and my daughter went to see avatar, about a 3 hour movie. went during the day even to save on ticket prices, spent 10 bucks to get in, and another 17 on snacks, drinks popcorn and candy since my daughter wanted all of that so 27 dollars for 3 hours of entertainment plus quality time with my daughter to 40 bucks for 15 plus hours of entertainment. not too bad. now if i didnt like this game i would probably have my problems with it, i spent 60 bucks on aion and didnt get much more than 15 hours of play from it and none of it was good play it was just grinding.

I honestly can only laugh about the "40 bucks for only 15 hours of gameplay? outrageous!" whining. There are severall full games that offer that much or less for 10-12 hours total and cost 60 dollars. Why don't you go to a movie theater and whine because they're asking you 40 dollars for 15 hours of movies?

Aside from the fact that the "15 hours" part is nowhere official, even if it was 15 hours, plus 5 new companions, a new origin, more customization options and all that? I'd say it's plenty worth 40 dollars.

The comments about piracy are just plain disgusting, and the false sense of entitlement i see is disturbing. You're not enmtitled to play games. It's not doctor's order to play games and i doubt they're covered by social healthcare in any country.
if you think the value offered is not enough for the price simply don't buy it and go play something else, or even better, get a job, so you can afford your hobbies.

That's the going rate for expansions. That's about what we paid for BG:TotSC, or NWN:SoU.

With all the whining about DLC, I'd have thought a full expansion would have been better received.

Whatever, it's a great game. There are ****tier games out there where the main campaign is less than 15 hours. Considering that production costs have probably skyrocketed in the past decade, I'm surprised game prices haven't risen accordingly.

Need to also keep in mind, that its not just 15 hours if you are going to play it more then once. Which is my case.

Just considering the humongous amount of dialogue in this game, I'm not one bit surprised about this. Voice acting isn't cheap, and if the new origin actually applies to the main game as I hope, quite a lot new lines of speech need to be added to that as well.

PC version costs 30 dollars for 15 hours? That is the maximum that I will pay for 15 hours. I would not pay 40 dollars for 15 hours for the console version.

Return to Ostagar might be the last DLC that I will buy, seeing how I already purchased the points for it. But when you add all the DLC and expansion costs together:

-7 dollars for 3 hours of Warden's Keep
-4 dollars for 1 hour of Ostagar
-30 dollars for 15 hours of expansion

= 41 dollars for 19 hours of gaming. For 50 dollars I had DA main game for 85 hours just for the first playthrough alone.

If they increase the duration of the expansion, say 30 dollars for 25 hours, then I will still buy all the DLC.

If games weren't pirated so much the prices would have been LOTS lower by now ...

The expansion is fantastic news, the more Dragon Age the better.

So Dragon Age RtO (eventually), Mass Effect 2 then DA: Awakening and DA: Comic.

Bioware is keeping us busy.

People always want more for less. They could charge $5 and give you 50 hours and I'd still see people complaining.

While for many, the value of an expansion like this is just the "15 extra hours", keep in mind that the actual cost of creating it goes way beyond that. Many of the new features in the expansion can likely affect the rest of the game so that means making sure new things interact with old things, and you know by now that there are a lot of old things. It means a lot of testing and a lot of code re-writing and content modifications.

$30 is starting to be decent.

If it was say like $20 then I wouldn't really be complaining.

My point is that I've gotten a better deal, in my opinion, from games that cost less but last longer than this expansion.

And even getting the DA:O CE for like $50 something dollars off impulse preorder, I'm gonna play it once with my main character and finish up the origins and I'll be done with dao until da2

Oh no, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that you shouldn't be paid for your time and effort.

This is simply a time investment to money spent on the side of the consumer.

Heck, people pay $60 for PS3 and Xbox 360 games with 5 to 10 hours of gameplay. I have no problem paying $30 for a Bioware expansion. :D

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

$40 for only 15 hours of gameplay? I got the deluxe edition off of impulse for about $10ish more when I applied a coupon I had.

If you put it to say like, $15 I'll buy it. $40 is just obscene.

Oh shut up, you will buy it

Suit yourself.

Luckily the market isn't dictated by silly gamers with an humongous sense of entitlement to play more for less.

Otherwise there would NOT be a gaming market.

$20 is a little over £12 thats an insanely low price what are you guys smoking.

$40 is around £25 the normal price for expansions, hell the sims 3 expansion cost £30 ($47) at GAME when it first came out.

On the other hand, the main DA game required several times more code, money and effort than this expansion did.  Yet it was a very popular product that undoubtedly netted EA a tidy profit. The sales from the main game made up for 5 years' worth of engine development, testing, art, writing and music.

I'm sure you re-used most of the engine, art, music, etc, so I believe that even by producing a product that was 1.6 gaming hours per dollars like the main game -80 hours for 50 dollars-, which comes down to 48 hours for 30 dollars of gaming on the PC expansion, you would make as much if not more profit per dollar invested than what you did for the already profitable main game.

But most of us are not even asking for that much, 30 dollars for 25-30 hours would more than satisfy most. Anyway, I will be buying the expansion regardless, just sharing my thoughts.

I feel sorry for consoles guys b/c that just seems high but then again I can't recall ever buying an expansion for console so I couldn't exactly dictate a fair price. lol. Anyways I'm sure the expansion will be brilliant, hopefully Bioware confirms March 16th & they do not change it between now & launch.(if it hasn't already been officially confirmed) $30 is not bad at all for 10 hours of game play it's not that great but I am hooked on the game. Yes I realize it claims 15 but considering DA:O was supposed to be 80-150 then quickly changed to 30-80 that is a HUGE difference so I will not get my hopes up for a lengthy expansion.

Even if it costed 40 for the PC version, I could just wait 1 month and the price will be slashed by 30%, which is what happened for DA from nov to dec. I paid 50 for it in nov, but then it costed 35 and a lot of people got it for that. So contrary to your own "silly gamer belief", there IS a gaming market for games that cost 35 for 80 hours, even more so a market for the 30 dollars for 15 hours that I am aiming for.

If you figure the console version of DA cost $60 and this is going to cost $40... are we really getting more than half the original game with this?
