Why does Kaidan get a free pass for not trusting Shepard, but Ashley doesn't?

It's because he can suck d**k now, so in the eyes of yaoi fangirls he's automatically golden.

not true, some of the Kaidan fans like my self have liked the char since me1 when he was not into guys as much.
besides I doubt likeing VS over the other one proves anything all in all Ashley is a cry baby.

Sexism... or no one saved Kaidan. Either one will do.

Ashley lacks a lot of the same qualities that I remembered in ME1. Consequently all the negative fuss she was making about Shepard working for Cerberus seems to overshadow whatever few moments of characterization she had. Really out of the two she had the weaker character, so it is easier to blast her.

Kaidan surprised me in ME3, he actually had more going on for him than just blasting Shepard for working with Cerberus. Once they make peace he is the old Kaidan I remember, and he can do his job effectively. Feels more like water under the bridge with him.

Also I think line delivery plays a really big role in all of this. He comes off calmer, mature, and reasonable in his questioning where as Ashley comes off as obsessive, paranoid, and irrational.

It's always Ashley that gets scoffed at for this, but what about Kaidan? He questions you on Horizon and throughout the first half of ME3 as well.

Everyone killed Kaidan.

Kaidan is less threatening, whereas Ash is more realistic. You were raised from the dead, VS fears of Cerberus troops with twisted augmentation are verified, and you just spent all of last game flying under the banner of a human terrorist organization which killed a friend along with several children and innocents. I see the theology hot button come up a bit as well whenever someone is trying to insult Ash, coupled with the claim she's racist, as if to solidify their argument. I like Kaidan, but 10/10 times I'll choose Ash over him; sorry.

Well, maybe you're one of the select few, but the fact remain's: Kaidan's latest enormous surge in popularity which i witnessed myself (at least over the internet, i have no idea how popular he is with general public, my guess is - significantly less) is due to one thing and one thing only - his suddenly awakened inclination to suck Shepard's d**k. I'm sorry but it's true.

ashley's character was consistrent through the trilogy. the problem in me3 is ashley is not delivered good. it's like they did it for the sake of it. while kaidan was well delivered.

As for "everyone killed Kaidan", here's the official statistic from Bioware (pre-ME3 release):

Wait, you can actually decide not to leave Kaiden on Virmire? Why in the world would anyone do something like that?

1. He's a Sentinel, one of the most versatile and useful squadmates in the trilogy for almost any-class Shep?
2. Urhm, FemSheps that romance him lol? Most ain't into romancing radioactive dust ya know
3. mSheps who were hoping Kaidan would sooner or later realize he's in love with mShep too
4. Some people save him because he's the only child of his parents while Ashley's parents would still have other kids
5. mSheps who romance Liara and don't want any complications with Ash

Kaiden is definitely more of a professional than Ashley ever becomes (which alone is a shame), but you can have a professional discussion with him about your association with Cerberus, which i think was a neat touch in relation to his character.

Hes a pro through and through, and to get through to him you have to be like that. I also think that for this reason alone he would make a better SPECTER than Ashley. I mean in the Coup scene, Ashley is waaaaaaaaaay less sure of herself, whereas Kaiden is somewhat confident, even in the wrong. Scene was ruined when VS turned their gun on Udina though, that was hilariously bad animation.

Never romanced him though, sorry but Turians > Humans ALL the time.

Hackett and Anderson trust Shepard with the fate of the galaxy, and that should be good enough for the VS.

I find it odd that the VS miss-trust of Shepard is not carried over to other squad-mates from ME2.

Joking aside, it would be because Kaidan as a character works much better than Ashley in ME3.

I disliked them both in ME2 (they were pretty much the same character anyway) and in ME1 I indeed preferred Ashley. In ME3 though, Kaidan is better written and performed.

wanna know the REAL reason so many are annoyed by Ashley talking back to them but not Kaidan?

Because Ashley's a woman. "HOW DARE THAT **** NOT TRUST ME!"

This.

You know at first I disagreed but that really is the only difference about them in the not trusting thing

I wish I could leave them both on Virmire. Not even joking. The hard part of ME1 is deciding which one I hate the least. I usually save ashley so I can bang her on the way to Ilos. Then I kill her in ME3.

Shot her with bullets from both guns ;)

Wow, I find that... disturbing.

I think people get really defensive when questioned by an (ex)girlfriend/boyfriend. Femshep being questioned by Kaidan, and then being "forgiven for cheating" is every bit as annoying, but most players don't experience that.

Yeah and FemShep doesnt get option of harshly telling Kaidan that she considered Horizon to be a break up like MShep gets with Ashley, it's either apologise to Kaidan about having another LI in ME2 or lie to him about him

I honestly don't get why people think the Virmire Survivor is being an idiot. They are wary of the possibility that Shepard's mind could have been altered by Cerberus. Cerberus had the means, the resources, and the motive. The real question is why isn't anyone else suspicious?

I thought Kaiden was a Vanguard? He seemed to  have the same abilities as me.

EDIT: Guess not.

Because Shepard is still running around doing heroic stuff.

Seriously, the first time the VS sees Shepard again he's just finished saving the colony. Why does the VS feel the need to ignore that factor?

In fact... Kaiden suddenly being open to homosexual encounters was stupid and pure fan catering. He had a WOMAN he was in love with years ago. Men don't suddenly realize they're gay at middle age.

I see you don't know how sexuality works. Let me explain it to you. You can still love a woman and still be into men. I know, shocking right?]

Also it's KaidAn. He's not a good kid either.

Gotta admit that was pretty wrong since we see many people do that
