What possible harm could it do?

I still don't understand why they are so hush-hush about it. We all know they are working on the game and they know that we are all very keen on getting more info, so why can't they release Dev diaries of their progress?
Because they don't want to?

There were two threads about how Bioware is shying away from harsh subjects based on a blog post by Gaider about how the female members of the writing staff saw a situation differently, which they changed. He thought that perspective was a good thing. That was bad.
Now imagine the mountains that'd be made out of every single molehill or thing that gets cut.

I'm sure an official filing with the Better Business Bureau, mountains of complaints with online vendors such as Amazon.com that resulted in returns and EA being voted "Worst Company in the World" after ME3 didn't live up to its pre-release information will now lead to Bioware not say anymore than the barest of bare minimums about any games they have in production.
If they can deliver every single thing they talk about before the game comes out, they don't have to say "it was planned, but it didn't make it." Or that anyone was told anything about the game that didn't come true. Which people, after ME3, tried to, literally, make a federal case out of.

... you're welcome.
Anything beyond this would at this point be the devs walking on eggshells not to give anything away. And that's no fun. Best just to wait till they can give it the kind of time and attention they'd be pleased with.

Unfortunately, it'd be incredibly frustrating to try to talk about what we're doing right now in a dev diary without the ability to show you more of the game or talk about more details. ("Today I wrote a thing for some... uh... stuff.") We wouldn't really be all that informative.

For example the developer states that they are keeping this feature from DA2 you then hear the rash of DAO supporters going well what is coming back from DAO into DA3. You said that was coming back from DA2 liked the voiced protagonist.
It is far better to say nothing. As attributed to Mark Twain and others, "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.".
Far better to remain silent and let posters have their conjecture than to give them more to rage about.

I also think they should force anyone who is going to publish an interview or anything to put in large bold letters at the beginning and at the end...
"ALL INFORMATION ABOUT THE GAME DESCRIBED HEREIN IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE"
Then maybe we won't have to endure the inevitable eruption of crying "fraud" in the forums after the game is released.

Over a year later when the game does not have that people rage.

I can feel my grip on sanity beginning to slip.
The men here are of the worst morale, as if they had already seen their doom and are just waiting for the axe to fall. Food rations have run out, as the Mass Effect cupcakes sent in the Spring rapidly disappeared. Worse yet, cases of Frostbite 2 have broken out as the winter settles in, taking limb from our soldiers and leaving them unable to use tools.
All else aside, the terrible howling outside chills us to the core. The BSNer's at the gates are an uncivilized, brutish sort, sounding less human and instead more resembling their bronie avatars. Fighting between themselves has kept them from laying waste to our fortress, with romance requests and fights that would make a lesser man wretch. Yet we all know the day will come when they tire of skirmishes with each other and will come for us instead.
I sense my end may be near as well. If anyone is to read this in future days, tell them what happened in here. Tell them... so it may ne'er befall anyone else again!
