Shep opts for semi retirement....part time training instructor in the N7 program. Has a modest log cabin built beside a lake in the mountains near Vancouver, keeps up with what's taking place in the Galaxy around him, keeping tabs on Krogan demands, Rachmii encounters, etc...those issues his decisions directly affected.

But Sheps had enough, his tired and messed up...has developed anger issues and binge drinks....See's a lot of Garrus and Hackett, either spending time with them or alone in his mountain retreat taking the time out he needs for himself.

Eventually would like to meet a nice normal woman...wed... and rejoin the world, maybe back in his Spectre position or on the Council.

IF my Shepard had survived, he probably would have retired to Mindoir or some other colony with Ash (he can't decide how he feels about Mindoir - yes, it's home, but it's also home to some very painful memories). And he'd now be living off the vids. So the colony option was the one I picked - I know that's what he wanted.

Unfortunately, though, my Shepard died. I don't know whether he died when he picked Control, or when the Shep-AI shut itself down, but, one way or another, my Shepard died to save the galaxy. (I like bittersweet endings, hence this headcanon.) The Shep-AI did get a chance to bid a final goodbye to Ash though, and a certain young Candice Shepard is now being raised on Mindoir. And she has a father to be proud of.

Hey, the whole thing is fiction. If people enjoy adding to it on their own, either by fanfic or headcanon, more power to them. I could make a decent argument that the entireity of Mass Effect is a delusion, but that doesn't make it any less enjoyable.
