The Dascians are an interesting race, with a background that gives them an appeal that players otherwise might not see in a new race. The other races all sound cool, the more fleshed out ones like the Sicooiid more so, though I always have some trouble picturing things like this.

The governments and cultures are just as interesting to me as the physical descriptions, and potential conflicts in the games like the likely one between humanity and the Dascians would be interesting to see.

The squadmate descriptions that are there seem cool, though I'm not a fan of being limited to 8

Governments and cultures are coming as well, giving them physical descriptions is the most pressing issue right now.

The limit is there to prevent overcrowding on the ship and promote replayability.

You mention dascians have no eyesockets, thus no eyes at all? Or...?

Pretty intresting species so far, I like the kadeci especially(praying mantis being my favorite insect), and ecorda sound like they resemble something like a humanoid catfish mixed with a bit of the creature from the black lagoon? Reoshans sound a little like you were inspired by my felinoid species the shekhmu from the other thread, then added some more alien things, like extra pair of eyes and many ears. Tough im not saying they are anything like my Shekhmu, the shekhmu are more resembling of the mrrshan in Master of Orion 2 or the kzin from Known Space universe while the reoshans sound more like the charr from Guild Wars 2.

Gotta ask tough whats with the number of eyes on so many species? Is there an evolutionary reason for this? What made some species stand out from the original lineup was that they had multiple eyes, but if too many species have them, it kinda becomes well just adding eyes for the sake of making it seem more alien. Just mentioning.

Were some of these the minor terminus species mentioned by the codex in ME1, before the yahg conquered them?

Also the keepers have a homeworld mentioned, this was discovered? What else new is known about them?

Precisely, where you would expect to see eyesockets on a dascian skull, it's actually just smooth bone. In their case, I was inspired by pale cave-living animals lacking eyes.

I was probably mostly inspired by the charr. I used to play one a couple of months back when Guild Wars 2 was new.

That's a valid concern. Multiple eyes is just a favorite feature of mine. I should probably tone it down.

Nope, they're all original, but most of them are meant to have been around for quite a while.

That's a remnant from Regenesis. I just left it in in case I ever needed it.

How do the dascians see at all, or do they use something like sonar or cybernetics? How do they operate their starships without eyes?

I think it said that their limbs are covered in sensory organs to help them "see" the world. Still, if I was Praetor I would be a bit uncomfortable that my gunnery chief had no eyes.

Starships does not actually use visual input in targetting and decision-making. Alliance vessels have windows because it's a part of human space romanticism. Just as Legion says, they are structural weaknesses and its not really advisable to use them.

While dascians are visually blind, they can "see" using a form of echolocation akin to bats and dolphins. Fictional examples would be Marvel's Daredevil and Avatar: The Last Airbender's Toph Bei Fong and the Metalbender Police Force from its sequel series, Avatar: The Legend of Korra.

As far as dascian ship crews go, they use other means like sound and touch to read and process information aboard ships (and in general). AFAIK, targeting is assisted by VI's, and the Gunnery Chief's job is to make sure the ship weapons are properly calibrated. There could also be forms of cybernetics that allows their brains to interpret visual input (allowing dascian sniper infiltrators).

The new alien descriptions are looking great. Early favorites of mine are the kadeci, dascians, and sicooiid. The swarm reminds me of Battle Royale and The Hunger Games, so it'll be fun playing a character who survived one. And the dascians being able to "see" the way Toph does sounds very interesting. Does that also give them the ability to see underground or through walls at close range?

As for squadmates, my favorite so far is... a batarian! That's surprising, because in the entire Mass Effect series I can only think of one batarian that I sort of liked, and most of them I just thought were horrible people. So good job showing a different side to them.

(Speaking of squadmates and Avatar - every time I read "Kilea T'Amlon" on the list, I read her last name as "Amon".)

I figured it had to be something like that, thanks for the clarification.

To a degree, yes.

Making the batarians look good was extremely important to me in Regenesis, and still is. For three games, the only decent batarians we've got is the sick guy during Mordin's RM (only if you were paragon, though) and Bray from Omega. Oh, and that Pillars of Strength-guy in the refugee dock on the Citadel.

What a funny coincidence, her unique power is Dominate.

Will this become a real full fan-made game? Or is it just fanfiction? I can't really tell.

Anyway, I like the ideas. Good job!

If I had enough funding, 4-5 years and the rights to ME, I would make it happen. As it is, it's just fanfiction.

All I want for Christmas is a Dascian Adept with Annihilation field, Nova, Bloodlust, Blade Armor and a Claymore.

Sounds like a great idea for a RPG but they don't do that kind of thing anymore, it's just so video gamey...

I must have missed Regenesis, but I agree about the batarians. The one I was thinking of is the sick guy. First time I looked at them differently. They don't make a good impression with all of the slavers and raiders. Having a squadmate who is very much against that and similar optional backgrounds for Praetor helps a lot.

Why didn't I catch that? Image IPB She does sound cool. I think I'll like her too.

But now I'm a little confused by the "fanfiction" comment... unless the word fanfiction covers more than just written stories, because I thought this would be some kind of playable fan-made online game.

Unfortunately, it's no more than an in-depth concept for a full-fledged new trilogy. I've thought about maybe making some kind of interactive text game out of it, but I don't have a lick of programming experience. Even if I did, I wouldn't have the time.

It's my intention to write a proper fanfic about Praetor when the project is done, and I hope the finished concept will be good enough to inspire others to use it as a basis for their own fics (which was one of my goals with the Regenesis reboot as well).

Too bad, because it sounds like more fun than ME3! Oh well, I can still do mental playthroughs. And those characters will be interesting to read about even if I have to imagine their interactions with my own.

I would love to write character interactions, but it would take forever on my own.

Absolutely, though first I need to finish the framework of the story - missions, character bios, races, backgrounds, story paths, etc.

For the record, I think something like this would make a great sequal for ME, we dont need another big threat like the reapers or adventure in some other galaxy. It could be games with intrique, schemes and betrayal amids galactic politics and war, among new players and species, in a futuristic setting like youve proposed, sort of like MGS in future world with all the tough choices of ME games. That would make for a great ME game or trilogy.

That was my idea, too. I felt we didn't get to see enough of the actual galaxy we were trying to save.

You killed the geth. Again. Monster. The people demand Aegaeon and Ace romance options and male-female voice settings for all geth crew members

Edit:

Arcian-Commander, our skepticism was misplaced. Thank you
