i played half the game before seeing the camp area

It was more like 3/4 for me.  The first time you hit camp it happens automatically, like a random encounter.  So I spent maybe half an hour one afternoon just traveling between two places trying to "trigger" the camp. >.<

I managed to miss something without playing the game, was just looking at the forum when I realised the quests and storylines bit was missing, 40 minutes later and i realise that I'm not logged in, stupid or what.

11 letters found... letter number 12 is there... somewhere... but still missing!

This comes from one who got the 75% completed sidequests achievement on first run through... but the letter number 12 will haunt me forever. The love letters was my only unfinished sidequest, of those I got.

In no way I've been able to remember where I found the 11 letters, to find out where the last one was by looking at a spoiler for the quest. So I'll just stumble on it someday... and it will be an OOMPH! moment worthy of this thread.

I only figured out now that you can get a reward from brother Genitivi in his house in Denerim after the Sacred Ashed quest. He actually invites you to come, but I always forget to do it.

Also, many items and sidequests already mentioned, like Ageless or Ser Garland's sword.

Did you get the one at the entrance to the Ruins in the Brecelian Forest?

I was half way done until i finally found out where the fabled base camp is on the map, not to mention being stuck in Denerim for an hour...
As most people I didnt notice the prisoner and ignored the Wilds hidden quests.
Worst of all i missed the 25 gold from the Dwarf Noble origin.

In one of the northern rooms of the
proving preparations area there's a master-at-arms (though that's not
his exact title) who will set you up with some illegial matches in the
arena against lesser Dwarven noble houses who employ blood mages,
Qunari mercs, etc. Useful, especially when siding with Bhelen and not
even trying go to the arena to fight until AFTER you made him king
*facepalm*

What?! Seriously! Oh my God I had no idea. Well that eliminates any reason to side with Harrowmont again!

Sure there is.  Side with Harrowmont, do the legal arena matches, then do the illegal arena matches, getting xp for both, and then when you come back with the crown give it to Bhelen anway. Haha.

Ha, I am still discovering newbie mistakes I made. I didn't know how to equip items at first, so I think I did my City Elf wedding in the same old ratty dress I woke up in. Take me as I am, Nelaros!!

I also missed the Ruins shortcut. That must be a common one.

Didn't figure out til 2nd playthrough how to activate Specializations. Yes, I completely missed that part of the level screen every single time. *blush*

I didn't know about the prisoner at Ostagar until my husband talked about some chest of potions you get there. Chest of potions?! It also took 1 or 2 playthroughs to find less-obvious quests like Signs of the Chasind, etc. Mainly because I didn't figure out til later on how to highlight interact-able items ("Tab" for PC), so I missed lots of codex, too.

I went to find Gaxkang with no clue or conception of what I was getting myself into. Had no healer with me, but thankfully lots of potions.

Mistakes are fun!

After you talk to your foster mother, she gives you a key to a locked chest in the camp.  You get an heirloom amulet, IIRC.

That remids me, the first time i played, i was a mage and took the Arcane Warrior specialization. Problem is she didn't hit anything with her sword, iwas very confused on the posters here claiming that AW was overpowered. Then on my later mage playtrough i noticed that Combat Magic must be activated first :pinched:

Oh, another one, I had a dual weapons warrior but for the life of me couldn't figure out how to activate dual weapons until at least after Lothering. I thought you needed special weapons.

I didnt miss her exactly, but as I had already freed Sten (unlocked his cage as soon as I came across him) I do remember screaming "No, no" when accepting Leli brought up the party selection screen. For one horrid flashback to older RPG games moment, I did think choosing a 5th party member would mean having to lose either Sten, Dog or Alistair.

I didn't noticed the two rooms off to the side between the entrance to the werewolf lair and where the forest queen was. It took me hours to realize that's where my missing Scroll of Banaster was... oops.

1. I found the elven messenger in the Ostagar camp by accident in my first playthrough (Mainly because I'm obsessive compulsive with talking to any and every character). Then completely forgot about him in my second, and only realized it until after Ostagar.

2. Spent half the game looking for the goddamned camp, only to realize that there's a little fire marker in the top right corner of the map...

3. The Tactics confuse me to no end. Though I have gotten better at using them.

Missed those rooms in the ruins in the forest the first time.

Shame on me...I just now heard about the 25 gold for the dwarf noble origin. Really? I gotta go look that up, because my dwarf noble never got it.

Here's one. Theres a cemetary in that town..the one that they kidnap Genetivi in...Haven? Yeah. It's got at least 15 headstones, all with easter-egg type sayings on them! I just found it on my 8th or 9th playthrough. I went back looking for a few more corpse galls, I'm short and I want to turn the quest in (and all the others I've done already). But no such luck. But then I find this graveyard! Never saw it before.

On my first playthrough i probably did the typical beginner mistakes and played almost up to the landsmeet before i found out about the tab key or how I can get back to the camp.

But after knowing of the magic tab key its pretty easy to find all kinds of sidequests that you missed the first time.

Nowadays if I find something new its usually dialogues that i never cared to trigger/select before.

For example I just recentl found out that if you politly decline Morrigans offer to join her tent and then ask her yourself later you get some pretty funny dialogue choices.

You can actually tell her that you want her to come into your tent to hold hands and sing the chant, or tell her that she is evil to which she will agree and request to be disciplined by you.

Much better way to start the whole thing then this boring "tis cold in my tent" ;)

I wanted to try that.

But I was weak and caved in the minute she asked.

I'm a weak man.
