Let's see if I remember:

- In my first playthrough, like many people, I missed the shortcut after the Urn of Sacred Ashes quest. My sister had to be the one to tell me that I didn't HAVE to go through those long winding caverns to get back to the ruined temple. xD

- When I first equipped an bow, I realized that I didn't have any arrows so I unequipped it. Having played Oblivion, I thought that you actually needed to buy arrows to actually use a bow. :pinched:

Leliana's song is not as random as it seemed to me at first - its "In Uthenara" - the lyrics to which you get when you open up Lanaya's chest in the Dalish camp.

Yeah, I just realized that when I was looking through YouTube for the song. I came across one with lyrics and the person who uploaded it said it was "In Uthenera". Since I was playing a Dalish Elf that time, it made the song even more special to me. ^_^

Leliana talks about seeing the blooming rose in the dead bush back at Lothering, which was her sign that the Maker had told her to have hope and find you, essentially.  Alistair later gives you a beautiful rose that he found in Lothering....coincidence?  I think not!  I wonder how Leliana would feel to know that Alistair picked the Maker's rose?  :P

I think I only realized that on my second or third playthrough.. If it was the Maker's rose that Alistair picked up, then I think it makes it even more romantic when he gives that rose to your PC.

- Lastly (and embarrassingly), after going through Fort Drakon with just my companions, when I finally reached the Archdemon, I totally forgot about summoning your armies to help you fight off the Archdemon and the darkspawn. I remembered thinking, "This is crazy! There's no way me and my party could fight off the Archedemon AND the darkspawn!" It was only after I died maybe two or three times that I realized that the army control icon is visible on the uper right screen.

I missed Starfang with character 1, even though I had the star metal in my inventory AND I've spoken to the weaponsmith at Warden's Keep. Talk about oblivious! I dunno how I missed that...my jaw dropped when character 2 obtained it. I reloaded character 1 to finish it again because I'm awesome like that.

On my fourth playthrough I discovered an entirely new conversation with Alistair at Ostagar (after encountering him for the first time) that provided a lot of background information about him, Duncan, the Grey Wardens, the war, etc...Normally, I'd go straight to Duncan after picking him up. I'm glad I clicked on him by accident to start that up. +1 approval too!

I completely missed any interaction with Leianela in my first playthrough. I didn't even think of going in the tavern.

In the Dwarf Noble Origin, I don't know whether it may have been because I played that before doing the Commoner one first time through, but even then I don't think on the first play through I paid attention to a certain someone coming out of Bhelen's room then rushing back in. That person of course being Rica (although she wasn't named as Rica in the dwarf noble origin).

2nd time playing dwarf noble, I saw her, decided to interact not at first realising it was her, then I was like "ooooh it's Rica" :D

This!!! Been playing for hours, and it doesn't trigger. (yes, i have completed warden's keep - but some people say you don't even need it to get the encounter) :(

You don't.  My Dalish elf (first PC) hasn't gone through Warden's Keep yet in this particular playthrough, and I already got little Superman baby.  Just keep traveling between places and it will pop up eventually.

Just a suggestion, go back and forth between anywhere and Honnleath.  It seems like something to do with traveling to/from Honnleath makes this "random" encounter more likely to occur than with any other pair of travel destinations.  It may be coincidence, but I don't think so.

This isn't really a "miss" but it's interesting nonetheless; when you pick Harrowmont to be king he gives you the staff that he's held as King Endrin's second.

Later upon inspecting the staff inside the inventory, the staff is apparently restricted to mages...

 HARROWMONT IS A DWARF MAGE!!11shift-elventy!

So, after I beat the Sloth demon in the Circle the first time, I thought I was done! I completely missed the Harrowing chamber on the map, and didn't see the exit. I went downstairs, thinking "Okies, the first enchanter has to be down here, right?" And the stupid templars still wouldn't let me out. I actually had to look up a walkthrough in order to figure out that there was another level to go to.

I think I was still groggy from three evenings spent in the Fade.

I completely missed Morrigan's side-plot in the first run through of the game.

SPOILER:

I was talking to some people on the boards and one of them mentioned that Morrigan's mother was a dragon. I go. "Huh?" and they were like, "Yeah, when you go on Morrigan's personal quest."

Felt. Like. An. Idiot.

There was also the time I spent like 2 hours trying to find the way to the Dead Drenches when it should have been right in front of my face. I got completely lost and ended up running through all of the deep roads a second time. Apparently I thought it would be fun.

Completely missed the Andraste Dragon fight my first playthrough saw the thing after doing the Gauntlet but totally missed the gong.  Then again the silly thing made it impossible for any pilgrims to visit the ashes so it might not have been a totally bad thing after all...

In my first playthrough broke myself out of a Jail(with Alistair) so completly missed the different party combinations and their banter/bluffing...

oops double post.

There is a third hidden door in the ruins of the Brecilian Forest across from the blocked door to the werewolf lair in the main hall you come in. These temples seem to be balanced. So one hallway on one side one on the other. The doorway looks like a bricked in door like in Haven where Genitivi is. Just walk up to it and click it.

That hidden room has a chest with one of the love letters in it.

The gangue Shade. It drops a ring that even this website doesn't recognize. My characters all loot if off him, and it shows up by name with a ? after it in their inventory. Weird.

I completely missed the way to complete the dead  caste quest.  I had completed all the pieces I needed in the deep roads and when I returned from the deep roads I thought you had to talk to the shaper.  The way the journal entry is written it isn't clear.   I kept trying to talk to the shaper and there was no dialog.  Finally found it third time through.

I missed the key to the city quest in orzammar my first 3 times through.   On my fouth attempt I hit tab in the hall of heroes and saw one of the reports.  Doh

I missed the dragon in Orzammar. I can't get back to it, now that I have finished the Paragon of her Kind quest. Grrr

No clues mentioning this. I just found out after reading some threads.

No arrows in inventory = can't use bows.

Stuck in Denerim.

Sort of a different take on missing out on something:

When you get the meteor metal, just before you show up the farmer couple are going on about how the toddler survived the impact and they don't know how but he seems like a normal little kid so, heh! lets go home and raise him!! didn't get the Superman joke. But then, I never got the appeal of Superman and avoided his comix and movies.

Really minor but didn't until last night notice all the birds that follow Shale around in Warden's Keep if you let him stand still for a bit.

I completely missed Leliana during my first playthrough...

lol thats a pretty big one

I didnt miss her exactly, but as I had already freed Sten (unlocked his cage as soon as I came across him) I do remember screaming "No, no" when accepting Leli brought up the party selection screen. For one horrid flashback to older RPG games moment, I did think choosing a 5th party member would mean having to lose either Sten, Dog or Alistair.

This happened to me, too! I missed out on Sten because of it in my first game.

Put me down for missing the shortcut in the Ashes quest, everything except Dog in the noble origin, and I've yet to be able to flirt with Duncan. Didn't get lost in Denerim, but it took me a while to find the way out of Orzammar. I sold off gifts the first time until about halfway through, when I figured it out. Saw camp the right upper corner but couldn't figure out how to get to it for a while. Wondered where the normal arrows were. Couldn't figure out how to make potions until game three. Dozens of things, really. Oh, but the biggest one? Has to be that I got the Black Grimoire long before Morrigan ever mentioned it. I didn't sell it--I gave it to Wynne! I swear. It must have been some kind of bug, but I screwed myself out of getting the Flemeth quest.
