Picture this:

King Cailan and Teyrn Loghain are arguing over strategy etc.
Buisness as usual.
At that moment Duncan returns.
He is frustrated. The promissing new recruit he thought he had found, did something stupid and got himself killed (whichever origin story).
He hears Loghain usual spiel about Cailan depending too much on the wardens and something inside of him snaps.
So he walks up to the teyrn and says:
"Loghain, I am invocing the right of conscription and am hereby recruiting you into the grey wardens."
"You must be joking."
"I just traveled months to get here, through sodding ferelden weather, on foot because the horses are all on holliday in Orlais. I stink of mabari biscuits, just as the rest of this maker forsaken place, so no, I am not joking."
"You can't do this."
"Yes I can. Right of conscription? Hello?"
Loghain turns to Cailan
"He can't do this!"
"Actually... he can."
"Nooooooooooooooooo!"
