When I played it the first time, I could not believe, when it was over. I really believed, after the (end)fight with a certain templar or mage the next act will start.
My fault was, to make DA:O both, a reference and a benchmark for "next gen RPGs".
IIRC, in my first run through DA:O I entered the Capital City the first time after 80 gaming hours!
All in all I spent far over 200 hours for my first DA:O-game and believed, that BIOWARE wanted to set a mark in regard of game length, as we have seen ultra short RPGs in the past (of 2008).
Together with the addon I played it for more than 1000 hours and was never bored.
But then EA took over and things changed back:
Short game (~30 hours IS short for me) and content, which should be part of the normal game, as DLC.

Just tired of paying 30$ to 60$ for a game and beating it in 2 days, last game I honestly had a lot of fun with was morrowwind. Skyrims not horrible but it's still lacking, same as DA2 just was lacking, DAO-A were great and so was the DLC. Maybe it's the same with all sequels Fallout 3 = good, Fallout new_vegas = suck.....

the length of the game didnt bother me a good 20 hours is fine by me, wat really annoyed me (an this goes for the mass effect series aswell) is the fact of basically making the achievements crap, in DAO i always had something to work for or work towards aside from the story same in mass effect 1, for myself a comprehensive list of achievements of which DAO an me1 had enhanced and made my gaming a hell lot more worth it.
In DA2 i practically did all achievements in one playthrough then lost interest (only thing that made me do more playthroughs was just to experience the classes), so yeah id agree its to short but only in terms of replay value in the reason i just stated
