I was planning on making a sword & shield warrior and all the post I have seen have builds on how to make a tank out of it. So far what I have read is to have 42 points in strength and all the rest in dexterity. I’m sure this will make an excellent tank but it seems to be a little to focused for a RGP game to me.

My questions are
1) If I put some points into cunning to get it to 16 instead of dex will I stall have enough defense to survive the harder fights in the game?
2) How do I keep from running out of stamina if I don’t put points into Willpower?
3) I have seen some posts that say I should have a 20 constitution, is this good advice?
4) Is there a target number that I should try to get my Dex to?

Thank you all for your advice.

I'll take a stab at some of these.

1.  A couple of points from dex into other stats isn't going to significantly lower your defense at end-game, but every bit of defense helps.  Remember that you get, IIRC, 4 or 5 points of CUN in the Fade section of the Circle Tower quest, so only put points into CUN to unlock lvl 2 Coersion (it's 12 CUN for lvl 2 Coersion, iirc), and leave the rest for the Fade.  This may not be completely optimal, but I prefer having that second Coersion for Persuade checks and such.  If you want optimal, don't put a single point into CUN, and do the Fade quest immediately after Lothering.  That'll get you right there for Coersion, and any +CUN items will get you over the top for the last rank in Coersion.

2.  You have to manage your skill usage, really.  Sword-n-Board warriors are mostly about their sustainables, Shield Defense/Shield Wall, Threaten, etc, so make sure you have enough Stamina to use the sustainables you want active, plus enough to use Taunt a couple of times per fight, and maybe a Sheild Pummel for emergency stuns (for overwhelms, grabs, etc.)  You shouldn't need to have more than 25-30 WIL by endgame, and items will give that to you.  Wade's Superior Dragonbone Plate armor gives a bonus to both stamina and combat stamina regeneration, so shoot for that as an armor for endgame.

3.  Conventional wisdom states that DEX is WAAAAAY better than CON.  That being said, there's some usefulness in having a higher CON, but I'd prefer to let my item bonuses handle that, and put points into either STR or DEX.  STR for damage, or DEX if you want to be a tank.  If you want a "balanced" warrior, pretty much split your points between STR and DEX.  That'll give you fairly decent defense, and "ok" damage.  You won't be as survivable as a pure DEX tank, or do as much damage as a pure STR DPSer, but you'll do OK.

4.  I don't know what number to tell you for DEX.  It depends on what you want to do.  If you want to be pure DPS, pump STR (and don't use sword-n-shield, go 2h, or DW), if you want to be a tank, pump pure DEX (after 42 STR, including item bonuses).  If you want to be a balanced warrior...well, put points where you think they'd best fit, between STR and DEX.

Most of all, this is your game.  Do whatever seems fun for you.

2) iirc there is a lvl4 warrior skill that replenish stamina per kill... it might help slightly.

3) Adding on to the previous poster, adding dex instead of con seems like a good choice. For CON needs, Lifegiver and Blood-gouged Amulet gives a whopping +20 to CON. You won't find that kind of DEX bonus for a warrior item-wise from a single ring and amulet. Therefore my advice is to pump DEX but mix match between DEX and CON is totally playable.

2) Sure you won't need to put points in your willpower but you will get bonuses from the Fade quest as stated before. Also you have to remember that you are part of a party (most of the time) and you can rely on magic healing for stamina regen boosts as well as bard song. You should not need to use a lot of active skills but more to speed things up and remove the doldrums of using a tank.
