Nostalgia is not the case here. facts are facts.
Me1 cobat is clucky but more Rpg
Me1 has more armors and more customisation
me1 has NO autodialogue and MORE dialogue and more choices!
me1 has more scifi atmosphere.
me1 has more explorations.
These are facts not preferences.

Not only were most of the armors visually and statistically the same, once you got the colossus and/or predator (?) armors those were the only ones you used.   Illusion of choice.  ME3 armors were much more varied stat wise and appearance wise.  There was no 'best' set.  Fact.

While ME1 may have given more choices, they often led to the same outcome.  ME1 has the least amount of recorded dialouge in the trilogy and ME3 has the greatest.  Fact.

The scifi atmosphere argument is opinion based.  They both feel equally (though not necessarily in the same way) scifi.

yes ME1 had more exploration...on barren worlds with little to nothing of interest.  Any settlements you found were near identical to all other settlements on other planets.  Couldnt be any blander.

The main missions were just as much of a cooridor shooter has ME2 and 3 (only with worse level design and stutering clunky gameplay).

that all being said, I adore ME1.

ME1 is almost 6 years old.
It wins because its a "complete package" that works.

Your turn. ;)

No. are you trained in them and  found them inadequate?

Pistols maxed out + marksman  = destruction.     My adept was a killing machine with pistols alone!
Sniper Rifles maxed + assassinate = victory against the Geth incursion!
Shotgun maxed out + carnage = awesome.

Assault Rifles maxed out + overkill = a decent way to take down enemies.

Either opt for pistols or Assault Rifles. Don't bother maxing out both.

I was reading about this on the PS blog and the ME guy was saying that they had transferred lighting and visual effects from ME 2 and 3 to the ME engine and also sound, does this new Playstation version actually look or feel any different from the original

Meh, I played it on PC a long time ago, never beat it.

Picked it up on PS3. It's fine, except for decryption which is a ****ing joke. I don't see myself playing it again after this playthrough though, lots of the dialogue feels tedious and the combat is terrible.

To the PS3 owners who have played ME1.

Did you enjoy the Mako on Nodacrux?

I played ME1 on PC well before ME2 came out for PS3, but as a PS3 player, I decided to switch. ME1 was more expansive in most of its mechanics, but because of their size they were akward and clunky. Its basically a quality vs. quantity arguement.

Besides, the point of ME1 armor was that you looked for more useful armor for its cost.

I guess that was the goal, but the implementation didn't provide this. Most of the time you're better off ignoring the stores and just looking for the next random drop. You'll get a better item doing another couple of sidequests rather than running around to shops.

Exceptions for Spectre gear and if you keep getting skunked on a particular type of item.

Edit: however, if running around hubs and buying stuff is what you like doing in an RPG, then ME1's implementation isn't that bad. I've always found shopping to be a chore, both in  RPGs and ITRW.

The Mako actually handles fantastically. I was surprised, considering all the horror stories that I have heard on BSN about the Mako having the handling characteristics of a canal barge.

As for Nodacrux, i'm not sure if i've explored it yet. I'll keep an eye out =]

Lets put it this way, while the PC has much better handling than the Xbox, I still wanted to through my mouse more than once when trying to navigate that place.

I've always played them all on PC, and my issue with the Mako was it feels like it should be more natural to turn with the mouse not the WSAD keys. i always imagined it would have been better on a controller with analogue sticks.

^^ One thing about the Mako that I find hilarious is that it seems to have magnetic wheels. Some of the slopes that it can climb are simply ridiculous. Reminds me of the Skyrim horse, lol.

It's actually pretty fun when you aren't trying for a completionist playthrough. One time i literally did every single thing. all minerals, all side quests, everything (boy was i a bit sore about that playthrough not having any difference over others..).  I grew to just hate the Mako then.  I'm currently gdoing a run through atm, and instead this time I am just following quests in my log, and making a bee line.  Its alot more enjoyable in shorter bursts.  I really do miss the seamlessness ME1 tries to emulate. the elevators as loading screens, the Normady lands and you use the airlock, and the Normandy drops off the Mako etc  kinda miss that we don't use the airlock or vehicles in ME3

Back ontopic, yay for PS3 people getting to play!

Well, it's okay... The controls are awkward... and the Mako is a pain in the rear to drive... and it was squishier than I expected... Also, most of the weapons and armors look the same, so that kinda sucks. And the fact that I need decryption skills to decrypt things sucks! Okay, fine, it makes sense that I need skills to hack things, but I have a need to open anything that I can open! Oh, and the dialogue wheel sucks...

Kaidan: Do you make it a habit to get to know your crew?
Wheel: What do you think?
Shepard: Nah. Only with you, Kaidan.
Me: That's not what I wanted you to say!

Okay, not accurate, but something like that happened when I talked to Kaidan! I get the feeling I'm giving him the wrong impression...

Letting those slide, though, since this game came out 5 years ago, or something.

mass effect 1 is so good and the ps3 version is well done I fell in love with mass effect 1 all over again but still got the pangs of frustration and anger about what bioware did in the final moments of mass effect 3

if bioware thinks it's the best they ever did then they are too far gone to be saved they no longer understand that games mean something to lots of people and that we take them seriously and treat them more like art then bioware ever did with that nonsensical failure at storytelling

a mess of incoherant scenes stuck together that did nothing but ruin the narrative and good work of mass effect 1 is not art

I hope the loss of respect from true games enthusiasts was worth it

mass effect 1 amazing so good

You can equip any gun in ME1 but only certain classes can use them effectively.  Only a soldier can train and improve assault rifle.

I'm a PS3 user and played ME2 and ME3 before ME1. Since i wasn't very impressed by ME3, for various reasons, i did expect ME1 to be better than it. What i did not expect is that ME1 would be better than ME2 in pretty much all ares except combat (which is not something i really care about).

My list of things i love in it that it does better than ME2/3:
- Inventory - Why did they do away with that? I love the complexity of upgrades on weapons and armor.
- Mako - The reason why i haven't made it so far into the main story line is because i'm having such a blast exploring planets in my Mako!
- Mako - It deserves to be repeated.
- Mini-game - This is something i missed in ME3 and loved in ME2.
- Citadel - DAMN is it huge. I've spent hours exploring it and am in awe of it.
- More dialogue choices - I read in this thread that even though the dialogue choices are more in this game than ME2 the different responses of the NPC are few. Which is something i don't mind at all. I just want the opportunity to choose different responses in tone and context of my Shep.
- Wrex - Do i need to say more?

I could make this list a lot longer but i've got some planets to explore in my Mako!
