well both the mass effect trilogy and the lord of the rings extended blu ray came today and the irony of haveing one of the best trilogies ever that makes sense from beginning middle to end
then at the same time getting mass effect which is no where near as well written and does not make sense from beginning middle to end

the irony was not lost on me today

the lord of rings trilogy is ****
mass effect is much better!!

Meh, I played it on PC a long time ago, never beat it.

Picked it up on PS3. It's fine, except for decryption which is a ****ing joke. I don't see myself playing it again after this playthrough though, lots of the dialogue feels tedious and the combat is terrible.

On a second play-through of your character, you should have enough equipment that you can turn everything you find into omnigel and never have to decrypt again (except for Matriarch Dilinaga stuff, artifacts, and minerals).

Assault rifles suck? What game are you playing?

Give Wrex and Garrus one with toxic ammo and barrel upgrades and everything is dead before you can even take aim. Or equip one yourself if you prefer to do the shooting.

Assault rifles were OP in ME1... Unless you were playing on Insanity.

Nostalgia is not the case here. facts are facts.
Me1 cobat is clucky but more Rpg
Me1 has more armors and more customisation
me1 has NO autodialogue and MORE dialogue and more choices!
me1 has more scifi atmosphere.
me1 has more explorations.
These are facts not preferences.

Not only were most of the armors visually and statistically the same, once you got the colossus and/or predator (?) armors those were the only ones you used.   Illusion of choice.  ME3 armors were much more varied stat wise and appearance wise.  There was no 'best' set.  Fact.

While ME1 may have given more choices, they often led to the same outcome.  ME1 has the least amount of recorded dialouge in the trilogy and ME3 has the greatest.  Fact.

The scifi atmosphere argument is opinion based.  They both feel equally (though not necessarily in the same way) scifi.

yes ME1 had more exploration...on barren worlds with little to nothing of interest.  Any settlements you found were near identical to all other settlements on other planets.  Couldnt be any blander.

The main missions were just as much of a cooridor shooter has ME2 and 3 (only with worse level design and stutering clunky gameplay).

that all being said, I adore ME1.

the only people that used collosus armor were the ones looking for collosus armor. other people wore other armors, like me for example. i wore duelist armor, which is in fact statistically the worst armor in game. i liked it, so i used it. doesnt mean i was the only one not limiting myself to only wearing the best armor. do people who play skyrim start complaining about lack of armors once they get their deadric set? or isnt that the point of having progression? you know to reach a max.

ME1 is far greater in the immersion and realistic department. i simply cant take ME2 seriously after i wake up after being rebirthed in the lazerous project. and i cant take ME3 seriously after witnessing the ending. in my opinion ME1 blows away both ME2 and ME3 in the atmosphere department. atleast the weapons in ME1 werent exactly like the weapons my great grandpa used 100 yars ago like ME2 and ME3.

about ME1s baren boring worlds........i GAURANTEE you that your first, second, and maybe 3rd playthrough of ME1 that you adored ME1s sidequests. i GAURANTEE you loved being dropped down on some planet in the mako. that is untill your 12th playthrough were you were like, "well, this is kindof repetetive."

dont forget why you loved ME1 just because you played it 100 times.

arent you in the know?

pistols with marksman blow the other guns out of the water.

anyone not using a pistol while focusing on marksman is playing a weaker class then they could.

The first 4000 times were ok I guess...

Still, Mass Effect 1. A Game for the Ages. Respect.

There is a sole reason ME1 will always be the best game of the series:
You have so much freedom!!!

I'm liking it.
But the controllers are as others have said, clunky. It can get annoying at times.
I prefer the thermal clips to these infinite amount of ammo.
The crosshairs is huge.
I'm still only on the Citadel after that first main mission :P There was a lot of side missions there.
Loving the younger Tali, she's so cute xD

Uhm there was something more I wanted to say I think, but I've forgotten what it was, damn you brain :P

Ok my only gripe of the game is decryption mini-game, it was bad when i played it on the 360 and still bad when i play it on the PS3. I moved consoles because my 360 RROD so was really happy that Mass Effect series went to PS3 and even more happy now that PS3 has the whole series. Replacing my 360 for a PS3 after the 360 RROD has truly been a great choice.

Also I dont recall ME1 looking so good on the 360 like it does on the PS3 I would love to see comparison videos see if I am just tripping over excitement of being able to play the series as a whole like it was meant to be from the beginning. But I dont know why people here on BSN always complained about the Mako, Decryption is the worst mini-game I like ME2s mini-game better lol. I guess i just dont like playing Simon says to unlock stuff or like the easy mini-game that was on ME2 better lol but I am sure its Simon says mini-game i dont like.

You know, even though I don't own ME for PS3, I want to ask: did they do anything to improve the combat or is it still the terribly slow, terribly broken system it was when it first released? Same with the inventory. Did they make it usable for once?

I for one prefer the armors in ME2 and 3, I can change the colours of them.
It doesn't seem like it's possible to do that in 1.

Now I remember what more I wanted to write earlier xD
The Avenger is a sniper rifle in ME1 :P

I can't compare to ME1 on the PC or Xbox360 since i haven't played it but i don't find the combat slow. It is however slower than ME3 but it is only to my liking since it makes it easier to implement strategies. As with the inventory i haven't had any problem with it yet. It's quite intuitive.

I can understand why PC players would hate the Mako.
I would've connected a pad to my PC if I were playing it there everytime I would have to use the Mako :P
With a pad it's pretty fun to drive xD

A lof of replayability in this.
To get all teh trophies, I probably have to play this game 5 times. I forgot about the trophies where I have to use certain species from the squadmates in the missions to get some trophies, so I probably won't get any of those in my first playthrough.
I'll probably have to go back to some world to get stuff I couldn't get becaus my skills wasn't high enough.

Just checked the trophies.
Seems like it'll take more than 5 plays.

Definitely worth the money. Hell, I bought it twice. (Once in the trilogy, once digitally.) I'm not a huge fan of the Mako, but I'm not really hating on it either. I somehow thought it would be more durable, though. *shrugs* Texture pop-in is jarring sometimes, but that's forgivable. It's a little hard to get used to the die roll of shooting after just aim and shooting your way through 2 and 3, but I'm guessing that'll be a lot better on new game +.

Overall, I enjoyed it a lot and it's great to finally be able to tailor the games how I want them, instead of a random default decision made for me. I'm looking at you, Genesis.

Did you enjoy the Mako on Nodacrux?

Damn mountains. I swear that planet made me lose hours of my life in the space of ten minutes.

There were a couple of Mako missions that were teeth-pullingly obnoxious, and then after several playthroughs I discovered the 'correct' paths to take to make them a LOT more convenient.

(Of course, if I played it again I'd only remember 1/3 of them.)

I havent forgotten why I love ME1.  Its my fav in the series (today it is at least, my opinion is always changing on my fav one).  That being said, I think ME2 and 3 outclass it in many ways.

Okay, I'm on Feros, and I realized something... Liara never offered to meld with me to look at the vision... It was... weird... I know she was supposed to offer when I get her! It was part of the plot, or something! I saw it in youtube, once! It was the reason she felt dizzy! Well, one of them...

Hm, I think it's a bug...

ME1 is awesome. I played it yesterday on my 360, and its cool now that not only does it looks like a retro sci-fi movie, it feels and plays now like a sort of last-gen retro game (I mean that in a cool way).
