Reading this thread somehow reminded me of Sneff from Crono Cross. Sneff was so intentionally ugly that i figured his hideousness was used to mask his strength, and skills from players who were too vain to choose him for their teams. Basically i thought his strength was proportional to his ugly, and damn was i wrong, as he was weak and ugly.

<Back on topic> Blah blah blah, ugly is subjective, as i thought this lady looked like Gary Busey's mugshot, but my friend thought she... Blah, blah, blah.(Generic anecdote about beauty being in the eye of the beholder.)

So yeah i wouldn't mind a companion who's facial features, body shape doesn't conform to western or eastern idealizations.

Me neither.  So long as it conforms to MY idealization.

I know I'm a little late to read this, but LOL! The only team I would use mostly is Serge, Glenn, & Grobyc. They were cool.B)

Yes, as long as I find them interesting I would like to see where a relationship between them and my PC would lead.

If character has great personality and romance was written well then I would do romance even if that character was darkspawn. I'm weird that way :P

I agree with this. If I could, I'd definetly set my elven blood mage warden up with the Architect.
OH YES I WENT THERE.

Never actually cared for looks myself, as long as the character is cool and fun that's good enough for me.

Has anyone made a "I would romance your mom, and she's ugly, so..." joke yet?

Just asking.

Hahahaha! I was actually looking through this thread trying to find something similar. Kinda surprised no one has actually.

Hey - this is a fantasy game... I would prefer to romance a hunk, as long as he was not a total a**.

People have romanced Garrus in Mass Effect, and some even wanted to romance Zaeed. And I have romanced Miranda. So why not?

Zevran wasn't exactly standard beauty (that's why there are countless mods around that turn him into a bland prettyboy), but his personality and "romance arc" made up for it.

LOL, such an awesome thread. If they looked as ugly as the picture on page 1, but had an awesome personality there would be no way at all she would ever be romanced.

Well, to be fair, Zevran actually was supposed to be extraordinarily handsome -- and completely covered in tattoos.  There are banters that refer to both of those.  Actually, I found the lack of tattoos a bit jarring as there are a few references to them but that was a limitation of the game using the standard elf body.  He was also supposed to be taller than the average elf.

I don't like most mods of Zevran just because part of what I liked about him was the scars and lines on his face; he life wasn't easy, and it shows.  Most mods of him remove those.

Whom I choose to romance in a game is based very little on their physical appearance, so I guess I would romance a character that could be potentially categorized by some as "ugly", I look more for who they are (their personality, their actions, what they're like etc.) not what they look like.

Loghain and Jowan are ugly in DA2, and I love them both. Alistair and Zevran in DA2 are ugly, and I... er, don't like the fact, actually. Isabela is fat. Merrill is way too skinny. Leliana has yellow skin. Nathaniel has an annoying voice. Sigrun is UGLY. Anyway, beauty in the eye of the beholder and all that. I prefer them handsome/beautiful, though - Anders and Morrigan work for me just fine.

This all depends on your definition of ugly. Some people may say scars are ugly, but maybe it's the krogan in me but I think they are attractive. really in all honesty it's the personality of the character combined with my personal opinion on looks that is a deciding factor. Either scales the overall opinion in one direction or the other. It could be interesting to have a character that doesn't reach conventional standards who is worth romancing.

They did that once, with Juhani in KOTOR, she was quite ugly. I didn't really want to romance her, of course then again, you didn't know you WERE romancing her until it was over anyway, that had to be the worst written romance of all time, fitting that they wrote it for the ugliest LI of all time. I actually heard one of the writers blame the fact that she was a lesbian for why the romance was unpopular, which is hilariously insane, it was unpopular because she was ugly and because you literally didn't even know it was a romance until it was over. Maybe if she'd behaved more like an actual LI I could've gotten past the ugliness, but she seemed like just another character each time you talked to her, right up until that final conversation, where she basicly declares that you're a couple now, and you're like 'what?'. So I'd say I wouldn't rule it out altogether, but I definitely prefer attractive women to ugly ones.

Maybe more interesting question would be if you'd be content to play an ugly character

I prefer playing good looking characters -- good looking female characters at that. When forced to play a male character, it doesn't matter nearly as much.
