If she had a nice body, yeah, totally. Just throw a mask or bag over her face, keep the room very dark during sex scenes and it's all good. Nothing to it.

Depends on a lot of things. But it's hard to go with someone who isn't sexually atractive, why not be friends instead? They have to have some qualities that makes my soldier stand in attention when she speaks.

I'd romance Oghren. He's not pretty. And his personality often leaves a lot to ask for too. And looking at what happened with his new girlfriend in Awakening, it would probably be doomed to fail. But still, yes, he's just that awesome that I would romance him. If I was playing a female dwarf. Which I won't be able to do in DA:I, so my argument is probably invalid.

Assuming the character is interesting, sure--why not? It's not like romancing anyone "attractive" in-game is any more appealing than an ugly character, it's all just possible character development to me.

And why would you think that ugly and unattractive are the same thing? I know of quite a few people that aren't really pretty (quite the contrary) yet still are undeniably attractive for this reason or that. Not to mention the opposite: the oh-so-pretty-yet-bland-and-hideous-in-every-other-way people are pretty common.

For the purposes of romantic interest, the two are interchangable.    Physical beauty is subjective, and the use of romance implies more than just a one night hookup based on looks.  If someone has gotten me to the point of romantic attraction, then I will not find them ugly.  If, on the other hand, I find them ugly after getting to know them, then they are unattractive.

So why would I romance someone I found unattractive?

Tali? 3 fingers, 3 toes, fish gils running down her body tali? This tali, bro? I suggest you stop sniffing lyrium. Your eyes seemed to be as messed up as hers.

That's a fair position. However, OP's question was:
"If all the LI in-game (both men & women) looked like utter trash, would you still romance him/her anyway?"

Oh if he was funny, smart, kind and great with animals and children then no matter how big his ears or snuggly his tummy I would totally romance him.

Sex appeal for me is so much in my brain and heart, Im totally turned off by arrogance and ignorance no matter how buff the package :)

Does Tali really count as an ugly character? She clearly always had a hot body under that suit.

As for the topic of the thread: I guess it depends. Are we talking "Mileena from Mortal Kombat" ugly or are we talking "Aughra from the Dark Crystal" ugly?

Yeah, sure, of course I would. Personality is the defining factor of romance options in Bioware games and a character would have to be hard-to-look-at level ugly before I'd consider not romancing them -- like, oozing pustules level ugly.

I'd be way more likely not to romance an attractive character whose character or romantic arc I didn't care much for -- someone like Merrill. She's beautiful and I love her voice actress but she's too girlish and saccharine for me so I'm not interested in romancing her.

Hmm.  At that point, I suppose it becomes relative.  When everyone "looks like trash", you reset your baseline expectations for physical beauty.  I thought most of the people in DA:O looked like they were made of slowly melting wax, including the various LI options, and yet I found reasons to romance one of them.   So the answer is apparently 'yes'.

As you illustrated before, beauty(or ugly) is certainly more than skin deep.

well for one ugly is an opinion not fact... but if i thought someone was really ugly then no.. but there are ways to see someone who normally isnt considered attractive as attractive. and not just ignoring their outer appearance but accepting their inner beauty as outer beauty and in your mind they become.. perfection... srry that might be a little to profound for video games but there it is.

Mass Effect has proved that exoticness and an interesting personality makes people romance said characters. Thane, Garrus... I would not romance an ugly-like"the adventures of ugly shepard"-ugly character, but I would romance a Qunari, a spirit, a female-Architect darkspawn type (as long as the hanging flesh and corrupted skin is toned to a minimum)

I would definetetly date a ugly woman. I think I already answered anyway.. If I am comfortable and linked with that person/NPC than I will normally completetly forget their appearance. Attraction it's not just a beauty thing. What play a role it's also how you were educated and in which kind of environement you grew up.

If you grew up with the image that ugly people are weak, evil and less intelligent... That might add to their appearance in your subconcious. We too often link the appearance of someone with their personality without knowing them. It's a reality. It's what we call being shallow. You look at the cover before giving it a chance. From personnal experience.. Any date only based on appearance will end very quick or be very pathethic.

Of course in video game I also roleplay a game character. So i often roleplay a vain, superficial and a ****.. I would just than  pick the plastic over the package.
