Bioware doesn't need to try very hard with me. Looks don't matter. I'd romance Sten and he is a classic case of ugly sexy. Hmm and Loghain...Teagan...Nathaniel...Now, pretty boy Cullen, and I think he is the best looking guy in DA2 (after Fenris), I DNW.
Just make them interesting.

My apologies to anyone that actually found Garrus physically attractive, and I don't mean to imply that he isn't to some people; but that was not the reason my Shepard romanced him, and I find him to be one of the most fulfilling Bioware romances ever.
I know, I know; Mass Effect is not Dragon Age. Still, my answer remains unchanged. I'm usually one of those weirdos that want all kinds of unexpected people to be romancable, anyway, so I have no problem with characters that are "ugly," or conventionally unattractive, being romance options.

well, in ME2 and ME3 I romanced a Turian. a scaly man with bird legs and dinosaurus face. and my second choise was a lizard man with enormous eyes and webbed hands. And my MaleShep romanced cthulhu's baby girl.
If the character have an appealing personality, I'd say, why no?
Everything depend by how the character is whritten. at least on my part. If the character is good looking too, is a bonus.
The difference though is that those characters aren't nessisarily ugly. Its.. a relative thing. But they look no worse then any other Turian or Drell, and if you think those races look nice in a sort of xenophilic fashion then you don't really think the characters are grotesque gut churning beasts do you?

While I never thought that Garrus was physically attractive, I have to admit that I honestly thought Nihlus was hot waaay back in the first Mass Effect.
(I was as shocked as anyone)

Outside of what I would normally find attractive?
One word: Aveline. The first time I saw her, I thought she was really, REALLY ugly. That chin and the red hair scared the crap outta me. But she grew on me over time. I liked her personality and her protective streak, so if she was romanceable, she might actually give Merrill a run for her money. (Okay, no, that was a lie. NO ONE can stop me from romancing the heck outta Merrill.)
But if we're talking about 'OH GOD what is that it's disgusting wth someone give me a bucket to barf in'-ugly...well, no. But that kind of ugly is a hard thing to achieve and I've yet to meet a human that made my ovaries shrink up like that. xD

This. If they just look average-ish then sure, I probably would. But if they were like "holy crap run for the hills" ugly then no, probably not.

Judging by amount of "how ugly" questions I see popping around, I'd say no for ugly characters. We want a modicum of good looks. And I think if we're truly honest with ourselves, we admit that the main reason we want to romantically pursue someone (and not, say, just be friends with them) is because we find them sexy.
But the difference is you're role playing a different character, these aren't your own personal romances. So I guess the question becomes how much you segregate yourself from your character. If you tend more towards seeing your character as an in game avatar for you personally, then imho it's getting a bit creepy as you're assessing computer characters based on how nice they're rendered.
So from an rping perspective, I'd ask myself, "would the character I created be into ugly characters?"

This is of course assuming that BioWare would attempt an "ugly" romanceable character. Since that day will likely never come to pass, the "problem" solves itself.
I would romance an ugly character, but it probably won't happen in a BioWare game.

Ahhh, I miss being able to set my characters skin to be above the bloom threshhold so they continuously glow. Glowing humans are normal right?
Also I probably would, my 'romancing' of characters in these games is pretty much just about consuming content the whole relationship kerfuffle isn't very interesting or engaging to me so mm.

I don't think that for me that's possible. Everyone is beautiful in my eyes. Y'all people need to learn to see past the superficial things that the society teaches you to associate with beauty and focus on the things that matter.

Fun, funny, useful skills in game are all a pretty attractive combo. Good looks are just icing on the cake. And since I play on the PC, there will always be modder community alterations.
