And the profile photo I now wear is the female love interest.  Putnam Lother is his name.  He enjoys drinking unknown  chemicals and impressing the ladies with  his large gold chain and goes shirtless all during the May harvest.

Depends on the characters, but I would go for the least ugly.

If I were to romance companions purely for their looks, I would have romanced Morrigan instead Leliana, and Merrill every attracted-to-females-playthrough. Funnily enough, in all my attracted-to-males-playthroughs, I chose the best looking (except for my bi-Hawke, unless Anders actually is better looking than Fenris, which is doubtful). Zevran and Alistair are equally good looking, so it comes down to race.

This is why I can't play Mass Effect. I can't take ugly characters like Garrus and pampered (that should say "pandered") Blue Barbie, seriously!

Yes

Of course they need to be healthly and not ''stupid ugly'' (Like that stupid picture in the first page). Woman just like man can be ugly but, they know how to make themselves exceptionnals. Some woman are beautiful, but stink like pigs.

It's a dose of charm/elegance and personality. i met some woman that would be considered ugly by the mainstream media, but they were just stunning from my perspective. Their body language etc .. Dunno. I would be like .... Geez that woman  !!! She's awesome !!

Although I admit .. For a video game character I am more shallow . But i would still romance an ''ugly'' chick.

No. I will mod her apperance. Even if she look average, I would still mod her appearance. But if her personality and first impression irk me, I will not even bother trying to know her.

But Isabela is far better looking than Merrill surely?

To me, my characters are the ones romancing the LIs in question, not me, and my characters' tastes can be vastly different from mine in that regard, so yes.

Zevran is not incredibly attractive (hate the blond hair and his hairstyle, looked horrendous in DA2) yet I loved his personality and charm in both games.

Alistair is also not very attractive (sorry fangirls-and guys-but not my cup of tea), but his dialogue with my Dalish Warden was extremely compelling, romantic, and felt natural for not only my character but her story.

Kaidan is definitely not attractive to me (aside from teh body in ME3) but Commander Shepard is head over heels for him (even if Jacob was the better lover).

Also didn't think Miranda was that attractive (the black hair and pale lips looked icky) nor did Morrigan (definitely not a temptress with that outfit and dress...), Fenris (in-game at least despite his concept art being smoking hot), and most certainly not Merrill. Yet my characters that romanced them, found them attractive, even if was a melding of personalities (not like all my characters are beauty queens and princes either). In fact, most characters that had the option to become an LI I have at least one 'mance', with two exceptions, Garrus and Diana Allers. Garrus because I think human/turian thing is just...wrong...(yeah I think humans should stick to elves, asari and things that look somewhat human) and Diana Allers because...yeah. No need of an explanation on that. 

It's really the personality. Although, being hot helps. At least for the eyes.

True, but if it was the other way around though. Also good pic, Quasimodo would be jealous. 

Don't get me wrong. I am partial to a pretty face.
But if someone is really ugly but succeeds in other ways, then yes.

Well, I do prefer Garrus over Zevran and Fenris (and they're both better looking than Garrus). So apparently, I'm not that picky when it comes to a character's appearance.
