Perhaps you have to answer a few questions, similar to the beginning of Kotor 2Lotion Soronnar wrote...
but if you start with a new character.....what's the story then? Look like "Al is the king" is the official story

But anyway, does everyone agree that looks like Oghren? At 1:20 in the video?
Unless it's the players character.

They're making allowances for what happened at the end the game. You can either continue as your character from the first game or, in case you sacrificed yourself, you'll start the expansion with a brand new character with what seems to be an "Orlisian Grey Warden" origin to put it in perspective.
If they're going that far, I'm pretty sure they have plans in place for that. Anora will most likely be ruler if she was chosen instead and Loghain could replace Alistair's role in the expansion for similar reasons.

Well, not really. It looks so cool, but lol, I knew that at some point there would be a talking darkspawn.
Also, I see that some of you guys may be like "omg, i'm the king but alistair's king." It's just the trailer, it is very likely that their character made Alistair the king. They probably have it more differently if your character is king.

What if Loghain kb'd the archdemon and Alistair left to become a drunk?

The game holds your hand so much at the end that Alistair is obviously supposed to be King, and no doubt he will be even if you let Loghain live, put Anora on the throne, and sacrifice yourself.
imho of course, but I'm definetly betting that things will only be different if your PC is still alive.

that would be my guess as well, since they used the word encounter, otherwise i would've thought Alistair, but he's there the whole time isn't he.

I share fantasy pisces concerns. What about our love interests? Zevran and leliana, or Alistair? I hope that at the very least, these romances some how remain in part in the expansion. I hope they aren't going to pull an NWN2 and kill off or dispose of OC romances to make room for new ones?

you honestly think Bioware developers are so thick as to make it a canon ending? if this forum alone can show that 99% of people are agianst that im sure bioware realise it too.
EA may well want as much cash out of this as possible(its business after all) but if they want people to keep buying they can't just scrap every choice we make.
i for one believe it will carry on from where we left off, and you will probably still have the companions available with 1-2 exceptions, its an expansion after all, it 'expands' on the game, it doesn't remove anything usually.
so please everyone stop obsessing over a trailer, since when was Oghren a favourite anyway?

It probably won't be cannon, that (like I said earlier) was just the route they took for the trailer.
Back to the romance bit:
I would be greatly upset (as a lot of you have seen) if Zevran, Leliana (the most likely to still be around based upon ending - provided you didn't kill any character -) are not around as the romantic interest, if you persued it. At least in my roleplaying when things got really hard, I was thrust into this position when I didn't want it, I have lost faith with the nobility of ferelden, etc etc, I could turn to look Leliana and realize there are things that do need to be saved, and that I should try my hardest to do it rather than leaving it for someone else (I tried to RP with the thought that if my character got to pissed off I would just stop doing that playthrough, as if he had left). It drove me on to keep going without resting for long periods.
For the origin bit:
Anyway kind of confused as to why it is an Orlesian Grey Warden more the new Origin. I'm presuming you can do that origin and play the whole campaign (origins and awakening). So what, you are some noble Orlesian Chevalier, then Duncan shows up and says "hey mate, we like have this blight thing in Ferelden, come help save the country".. Orlesian: erm, what?
Although it does solidify to me that the sequel (DA:2) will be in Orlais.
I guess I was just expecting more along the lines of human commoner, apostate mage, something like that... Rather than just a human from another country (ooooooo, meeting Loghain at Ostagar will be priceless!). But it will be fun to see Orlais.

But seeing as how they said ONE, is where my head begins to hurt.
Based upon your ending, Alistair would be dead/king/drunk somewhere/or pretty much Captain of the Grey Wardens. So if it was him as a companion then what about those who killed him? Then what about those that made him king or sided with Loghain. They won't get to use him. So then it would read "a possible companion returning".
Morrigan is gone. Sten could have died in lothering, Leliana could have died in lothering or killed her at ashes. Wynne could have died at tower or ashes. Shale could have died at Anvil. You could have killed Zevran two different times.
So that leaves Oghren or Dog.
Crap, maybe it is Oghren. Because that is the only way (with all possible endings) they could defenitly say "one companion returns". Instead of "a former companion possibly returns". If that makes sense.

Uh, it's an origin for the Expansion, not DA:O. For those whose own canon endings killed their PCs.
Alright, wasn't sure if that was clarified, I thought you could do it from the very beginning, thanks for clearing it up <3

yeah, it says encounter an old party member, which means that person doesn't have to be in your party this time around, you will just meet him/her/it.

That said, if your PC was King, Anora is the Queen and she'd probably be the one ordering you around. Thats kinda how it works with these games. ;D

That could be true as well. Speaking of Gorim, maybe he will get healed and join up! Say his entire family get slaughtered before they can escape Denerim... oooh yeah, Gorim Grey Warden time.
