Server-hoppers can still get a working server list from the Xfire client. The list contains 159 servers as of writing and looks like this:

http://img713.images...4/xfirelist.jpg

Unlike the Gamespy list, the Xfire list is built through monitoring user activity. When a player connects to a server through Xfire, it is added to the list. Server owners should download Xfire and log in to their server through Xfire once to make sure it shows up on their radar. It helps players like us find active servers too.

+1! Thanks!

Are you 100% sure about that? That X-Fire scrapes servers from user activity? I thought that was the case but was not entirely sure. If that _is_ the case, it's very good news- at least for people looking for servers in the short term: Grab X-Fire!

 According to their FAQ, yes

http://www.xfire.com/faq/#143

We track every time someone joins your server via their Xfire client. Once enough Xfire users have joined your server we recognize it as a “good” server. Then it should be added to the “All” servers list.
We will send out a query every week to verify your server is still active.

Bless you! That's great news. I've been using X-Fire a while now for doing video capture in-game and it's pretty decent. I don't really like game browsers that much, generally, but being able to snare servers in this environment is a pretty darn nice perk!

Superfly also has a NWN xfire group here:
http://www.xfire.com...s/superfly2000/

Xfire is nice, but it is no substitute for in game GUI server listing. AKA what the game came with (and comes with.)

As an emergency backup, I've created a proboards forum where I'm gradually adding servers to the list. It's not as convenient as xfire but does allow you to browse and read descriptions (if provided) before connecting via Direct Connect. Information here:
http://social.biowar.../index/15186804
Forum here: http://nwnserverlists.boards.net

It's just one more option for the community if they want to use it.

I know the community is working on other things, but Xfire does replicate what game spy did (and more, although it's not intergrated into the game.) I highly recommend you all get it. It would also be good if we could get this sticked so people know how to access the server lists. And on that note, it might also be good if someone reached out to the distributors to have them reccomend customers use Xfire as well, in addition to stating gamespy functionality no longer exists, but multiplayer does.

A note to PW owners however. Some servers don't show up in the list. Will try to find out why, and post any info I can uncover. If anyone else has any ideas about this, it would be great if you posted too.

If there's a silver lining in this, NWN1 is now in the top 100 games on Xfire by hours played, beating out newer games like The Secret World

Also, It looks like Aventia 3 Merged has a port blocked. When I added it as a custom IP, the server shows up as blank even though I can double click to connect to it. According to this: http://www.techencla...ts-xfire-53251/ , it randomly queries a huge range of UDP ports. Maybe there's a specific Xfire port for NWN though, you'll have to ask on their forums.

I see 204 servers now, up from the 159 when I first posted, so it definitely doesn't look like an exclusive club.

If anyone has a server that shows up fine in Xfire queries but hasn't been added to their server list yet, post here. I'll connect to it to add to the count of "enough Xfire users".

Thanks for the information Aelis. I made an inquiry on the xfire boards, but it sounds like it got taken over by new management recently, and the current owners were not exactly sure how the server listing thing works. Hopefully we can get some clarification.

P.S. If anyone knows exactly how this works, I personally would appreciate some insight here, and you would also be doing other PWs out there a service by explaining how to get listed. It is currently the only server list for PWs updated in real time (even if it isn't complete, but if we can disseminate the information out about how to get servers listed, it would be a big step in the right direction.) We should utilize it if we can.

It's possible the issue for us is that we have not passed the join threshold yet. My host assures me the ports mentioned in the above article aren't an issue for us. But if the threshold is the case, this does not bode well for new, or small time servers getting listed. We have had 50+ (if not 100+)  logins using xfire and still aren't in their server list. And if this doesn't surpass the join threshold perhaps this is not a great temporary or permanent solution.

But almost 50 new servers have gotten listed there in the last week, so somebody must know something…

Ok found the problem (or my host did rather). I had changed the nwplayer.ini setting from GameSpy Enabled=1 to GameSpy Enabled=0 as we were getting log spam due to this, and I thought it might be lagging the server. It turns out doing this also stops the game from being posted to the internet. Just a heads up to everyone. I suspect xfire will be able to detect us now, and hopefully we should be able to get in the server list soon.

BTW for those who are newbs to Xfire (like me):

To add a server to your favorites list:

Then you can R-click on it, and choose join, and it will load the game and direct connect you to the server.

Yep, it didn't take long after this got sorted. I suspect it will be easy for new servers to get listed there as well. It's a very good resource for the present state of things.

I tried out xfire, and had a weird problem with their client. It will recognize me as logged in to my server after it's installed, but after I restart my desktop it no longer launches NWN or recognizes that I've logged into the game. Multiple uninstalls and reinstalls don't help resolve this.

No clue what is up with that m8. It works flawlessly for me and a couple 1000 other people. You might want to post on their tech support boards:
http://forums.xfire....chnical-Support

Despite the fact that it is freeware, they still seem quite responsive to their "consumers" concerns. Now that... is customer service...

Laz

P.S. Can we get a stickey please?

P.P.S. Aelis, can you remove the Av3 server status link from one of your previous posts please? (edit: Thank you.) I want no illusions about me wanting this information stickied, being due to my server having a link here. I would love lightfire to add us to his stickied post on the PW boards, but that's not what this thread is about. This thread is to let players know they can still get a more than less complete server list from Xfire, despite gamespy service being discontinued. And it absolutely should be stickied if bioware refuses to make their own announcement as to this fact, and list alternatives (like Xfire).

Xfire worked really well for me. You don't even need a NWN multiplayer account/password. As a test I have entered a new password each time and it just times out looking for the old Gamespy list and pushes you right through.

With the BioWare master server gone for over a year, there is nothing checking your password against your player ID. You can enter any password you want with or without xfire, and it doesn't matter.

Multiplayer servers have moved on to their own internal security, which associates your player name with your CD keys so only you can log in there with your ID.

If the server's IP address changes will XFire still recognize it? or does it go by server name?

I am not sure, but I think every time the IP address changes you might have to go through the process of getting it re-listed again.
