I have a main character that is modded.   meaning he is a mage with attribute score of 25 in every category.  and he has 9 million gold.    I am still relatively early in the game,  I am just doing missions and so on.  I released Flameth, red dragon in the forest and she flew away.   
and I am doing odd jobs like clearing thugs in the Docks.   Up to now, really no problems in the nightmare difficulty.   but all of Sudden, I am getting my butt kicked.   enemies with about 10 guys.  They look like rouges class.   I can't win, they kill me.   Yes, even with modded main character.     I didn't mod the companions cause that would be too much cheating.   
Is this normal ?    Why did nightmare difficulty become so impossible all of sudden ?

Enemies scale with Hawke's level so if you're level 50 the enemies are going to be something similar.

Hawk is right now only Level 8 Mage.  but has attributes of 25 each.  so why are these Assassins so hard to beat.  I only mod the attributes only, nothing else.

25 isn't really that high stat-wise. My level 10 mage is at 28 magic and 27 willpower.

LOL, WOW, how did you do that without the Mod ?   Mine is close to 30 now with magic robes and staffs.   I Just used the Mod again and just pumped up the Mana and stamina little bit in Hawk and 2 of my companion fighters and that seem to help little bit.    Those Qunari mage and commanders are really TOUGH in nightmare difficult.

I just did a lot of side quests and focused on building up the willpower and magic stats.

I noticed my main guy Mage runs out of Mana even with high willpower scores when fighting large group of foes.  and rouge commander or assassin commander is very difficult to kill.   How do I kill them ?  I have a pretty decent staff and it doesn't do any damage against this guy ?   Why is that ?

If you're using a lot of the quickbar abilities, you'll burn through mana quicker. And sometimes you'll come across an enemy that is resistant to some things like nature damage.

Ohhh, I did not know that.  Thanks.   I only know how to cast spell thru Quickbar.   You mean there is another way to cast spells ???   How do you do that ?    Is Quanaries resistant to nature damage ?  and what about these Assassins and Assassin Leader ?   They are Very tough to kill if they come in Group of 7-9 guys.  
and I went One on ONE with Assassin Leader and I got killed.   He kept on lobbing Granades, I think stun kind.   and This Assassin boss is very resistant to my staff missiles.   How do I kill this Assassin boss at Nightmare level ?    This is in Quinari Coast now.

Sorry, I meant using any of the spells other than the usual attack will drain mana more quickly. For group leaders, it's better to try and separate them from their group. Having a warrior with Taunt will usually do the trick.

If possible, retreat a bit so that the next wave has to run up to you before attacking. It should also put you out of range of the grenades.

Why don't you take a look at the classes and builds forum. It helps a lot by giving insight as to how various abilities work and which are some of the more successful builds. This is especially true when playing on higher difficulty levels

A good place to start is the index thread.

What is the best way to kill ship captains ?  these guys are hard to kill

Also How do I beat this Leech mage in the warehouse at Nightmare diff level ? This guy is killing all my companions and I can't kill him either

How do I kill this blood mages with Demon guarding them in one of the quests in lowtown ? these are impossible to kill at Nightmare difficulty

read guides. start with the tactics guide then select your class. if you are a mage read the compendium first.
