I get no music or sound effects while running in 5.1, only dialog. If I change Dragon Age to Stereo Mode (for headphones) everything is fine. Can someone help me?
I'm using Creative Labs X-Fi and Creative Labs G51 speakers.
No 5.1 sound

I got a try to fix it with Creative Alchemy (helps with NBA 2k10), don´t work well. Stereo surround in the moment :/

There is no DTS encoding happening in FMOD. It's a discrete 5.1 output using the windows 5.1 default settings. Unfortunately DA is not compatible with DTS

Have you checked your speaker levels? Sounds like you are only getting the center channel...

Yeah - I keep them all at 50% with the rear speakers at 65% since they are pretty far away.

Does your sound system happen to have a "Matrix button"? I'm using Logitech's G51, and after a few days of no surround at all, I disabled the so-called "Matrix" and the problem was solved.

Same Problem, no sound except on my front speakers. Windows XP and SB Audigy 2 ZS. Looked in the INI files and did not find anything that would suggest turning on 5.1 in there.

Same Problem, no sound except on my front speakers. Windows7 Ultimate 32 bit and Realteak 5.1 onboard sound. Realteak selfcheck works perfectly

I do not have any issues using 5.1 (Creative XFi) under Windows 7 Ultimate and Logitech z5300's. Cut scene dialoge comes from the center channel, as it should, party banter comes from behind usually unless I turn to watch the conversation whereas the sound moves from the rear to the front. The sound pans as it should etc.
I will check my settings when I get home from work.

did you set 5.1 speakers in Creative Console Launcher?

Yes, I have 5.1 in everything else, including all my other games. 5.1 is set in the creative console speaker settings, and it matches the windows control panel settings as well.

Solved the problem by disabling my onboard audio in the BIOS (thought it already was, but I was mistaken). 5.1 works great now. As for why this was only a problem with DA:O, I cannot say.

Yes its an old thread yet the issue persists, I take it this has still not been officially acknowledged let alone fixed?

I have 5.1 working through the analog outputs on my X-fi in Vista x64. Never used a digital connection though. Related topic:
