Sometimes I feel like Serana totally should have been romanceable, and others I feel like she doesn't deserve it, simply because the feature is so shallow and horrible...

I'm sorry but if you take, "we drew some inspiration from Skyrim" and some how interpret that as, "DA3 will be a sandbox game" and then get angry and scream at Bioware for lying again, you bloody well deserve to have the entire DA staff come to your house and take turns slapping the stupid out of you.

False assumption is this community's biggest habit.

Slapfest should be a holiday around here.

I think their plot/story is generally okay, not great in the sense of lack of world or player reactivity to changing events. Basically the world did not seem to react to your progression story wise very well. As for the characters, they were actually good, interesting and good personalities but it was merely the relationship between player and those characters that lacked depth. What I hope Bioware learn from Skyrim is bigger more open world, better exploration and less tunnel vision hand hold progression giving player freedom, better customisation and more depth to it from characters to crafting plus living world effects such as wildlife, non-story related activities (bit like in TW2 which had those mini games could play from arm wrestling to board game and more).

Customisation and exploration are the two factors mostly though which I think Bioware should take inspiration from Skyrim. I want them to take inspiration from TW2 aswell which I hinted at above but also most importantly in story branching like how Witcher 2 between act 1 and act 2, you could go on completely different path and take part in a completely new zone, area or place with new storylines and characters yet still being part of the main story. Branching was the best part of TW2 (imho) though the game was very good on many levels plus living world immersion (non static NPCs, adding wildlife and weather impact, day and night handled better etc), which was both present in Skyrim and TW2.

Same here. Hell I might even get it if Bioware makes an earnest attempt at putting exploration in the game.

Lots of people in this thread believe Black Ops II is an rpg. Black Ops II has choices affecting story.

More things TES crushes at: loot and magic system. Dozens upon dozens of different spells, nearly 100 total, catagorized into 5 schools. Dozens of staffs. Dozens of robes.

Multiple people discussing Skyrim who have no idea what it is because they played an hour and couldn't stand no handholding til the next cutscene.

Bad. I want exploration but not a totally open world game. Whenever games are open world like Skyrim the story suffers and thats what makes DA great.

There's no way they would do this. The lead designer simply said bigger, more open areas.

You win the award for most crazy, strange complaint I have seen about the game.

If you are on PC, download the Vilja and Cerwiden follower mods. They are two nice girls with improved AI. Cerwiden f.e. is the only NPC, who adjusts the spells to the weakness of the enemy.

So mainstream RPG developer with little integrity rips off mainstream RPG whose only distinctive and redeemable feature was its art direction? So long as all they're doing is copying "mountains = pretty" and "Jeremy Soule = nice music", and don't let anything else about Bethesda's fatal abortion of a game influence theirs, I'm good.

Actually there is one thing about Skyrim they could learn from. Bethesda are one of the only RPG developers anymore who make universal gameplay systems and mechanics, as well as AI behaviors, which allow for the player to solve problems on the basis of character build, and have the game world react in a believable way. That open-endedness, the ability to take on challenges using different strategies, etc. is almost completely absent from BioWare games.  Bethesda games, for as much as they have been dumbed down to crap lately, at the very least preserve the essence of a tabletop experience.

Of course, if they were to learn from anything Bethesda ever did it would be Daggerfall or at least Morrowind, which were actually good, but baby steps.

Like Skyrim? Why??? Skyrim is trash...the worst game I've ever played . BioWare needs to stop listening to these idiotic fans.

Yes because we all loved the corridors in DA sooo much. I for one think it's good they're willing to branch out, but we'll see if they actually do.

from what I read, their concept about DA3 is actually quite like original Baldur's Gate where you have a very long and involving story plus sand-box style exploration. That is to say BG was way too ahead its time even right now BioWare could not do a game like that. I think Skyrim did lots of awesome things but still hope BioWare can stand with their own roots.

BW has made clear that DA will not be an open game like TES. What I read is that BW is looking at the possibility to make the world more open in terms of exploration and the way the game is set up to accomplish that. More open areas that are visited either by clicking on a worldmap or menu.

The new engine has more possibilities to create visual eye candy. The pictures the OP shows in the link are concept art pictures that probably will (but nor for sure) be used in the next installment.

DAO's narrative structure + Skyrim's sand box exploration  = Baldur's Gate

if they can accomplish this, there is a good chance that DA franchise might finally become the real spiritual successor of BG.

Skyrim did a very good job at fixing the stupid things in Oblivion. It's mechanics were streamlined in a way that was an actual improvement, the whole level scaling thing was made much less stupid.

And it's very pretty.

It's a great RPG for many reasons. One is the loot, another is freedom and ability to roleplay a created character with massive freedom. Another is exploration. Another is statistics. Another is the interesting quests.

Is it perfect? Nope. But what game is? Is characterization as good as BioWare? No....minus Sheogorath. But Skyrim is pure gameplay. Maybe that's a negative to some.

Baldurs gate had race options (More than DAO) and a detailed combat system. Neither of those things will be present in DA3.
