Let me guess, no one plays the Novaguard anymore because of the screaming?

Hit 1, hit 3, scream, repeat until everything it dead.

Actually, being serious.  I built one tonight, first time trying it.  I'm curious why no one plays them much now.  Pretty sure I would remember the constant screaming.

They're mildly underpowered now. (Look at the Krogan Vanguard.)

Ah, I see. I have to admit my Krogan and Batarian Vanguards are pretty durable.

It's because it's not really useful for higher difficulties. Also terrible vs. collector

Because GUNS are what rule these days, not power combinations. A Novaguard in a team full of Primers (like Area Reave,) was just a mess waiting to happen for the enemy. It was a thing of beauty. Charge, nova, BAM!

And they suffer from typical Vanguard problems, Charge not activating right, dying post-charge (thus, preventing use of Nova,) things like. They're too squishy these days.

I think I'll try one in Silver. See if I get kicked out.

I assume nobody plays them anymore because everyone has since unlocked tons more classes and the old classes may seem kind of boring and (untrue) obsolete.

Personally I've only played the novaguard 2-3 times since the game came out, and since I refuse to play by constantly using the charge-nova combo, it wasn't as effective as other kits I could use. It was still pretty fun with the lifting shockwave-nova combo.

I'm actually glad I don't see more Novaguards. I get enough noob Vanguards as it is, I don't need another idiot blindly charging the first thing that moves.

Learn to nova cancel. Also, if you're playing without biotic support equip incendiary/disruptor/cryo ammo to create tech explosions.

Yeah, the scream was why I never played my Novaguard in public games. I did very well soloing with her, since with nova-rolling she's essentially her own cover.

But then I played one match, and imagined that others heard her the same way I did, screaming non-stop. So I put her away in shame, and never looked back.

I've met Novaguards in-game later, both good and bad. These days, I'm less annoyed by their screams, and more by the screenshake they bring. So, well, don't Nova behind your teammates, and you'll be all right.

They're not as effective as other Vanguards, they're painfully simplistic, and team mates rarely appreciate their shots being blocked and their screens being shaken.

I'm willing to admit my personal hatred towards the Novaguard might be a bit much, but I'm fine with that.

False.  Novaguard is definitely platinum-viable with a team, and Achire even managed to solo Plat with it.

Also terrible vs. collector

True.

Anyway, I still play a round or two of novaguard whenever I host, and that's gold/platinum.  It can be a very effective kit in the right hands.

I like to imagine that my Novaguard's a virgin and screams constantly because of sexual frustration. I have a hard time not laughing through games.

People don't play them because they're quite difficult to master on higher difficulties.

How long/how much does nova canceling give damage reduction?

Nova gives 1.5 seconds of complete damage immunity.
