Sounds weird hearing the accent played back to me, I only know one other Aussie who plays...

My accent is not the typical Australian one.  You wouldn't believe how many people on xcal's vids accuse me of being British. <_<

By "typical" do you mean "goes up in pitch at the end of every sentence"? I heard Jim Jefferies point that tendency out once and now I can't for the life of me unhear it.

It's called High rising terminal among other names. And I don't think sirian has it particularily which is why he probably gets msitaken for British. Tho enough British people use it .. I even had to study Neighbours videos when I was doing linguistics *laughing*

Excellent Guide.

I think I know a lot of this stuff, but I'm failing to act on it. I tend to panic too much.

Having
said that, I'm now one of those players (like the fury in your vid) who
can clutch half a wave, but it takes me all day.

Yup I am in the same boat as you, exactly the same boat as you >.<

Didn't the Fury missile them when they became last man standing?  I thought that was a very nice decision by them.

Have fun :)

What software are you using to edit your footage? Normally for instructional videos it is good to use markers such as arrows. For the good players we can guestimate what you are doing, but from what I understand your video targets totally new players. Another example is to add say perhaps cross hairs or just simple markers to indicate "This unit is high threat, or target these first, kite these."

If so, it would be ideal to narrate and perform the action at the same time. Reason being is that as a viewer, we listen to you speaking about say topic A, but our eyes are watching action B. I understand that you mainly FRAPSed one PUG game and tried to fit as much information as possible (sans the first part where you show reload cancel with the single nemesis)

You started well with the reload cancel part and hack part (about leaving the circle) but later on when you spoke on lag and revives, the video was about other stuff. Ideally if you can slow-motion the footage while you narrate example: "Here i cloaked to revive and not wanting to waste the cloak bonus here ..."

In closing video editing requires a lot of takes :P especially when you do an instructional one. All in all good work! Keep it up!

Ooh, there's a name for it and everything. How cool. Sirian definitely doesn't do it, not even "off the cuff" in xcal's vids.

You only scored 200k in a PUG game and you were using the Katana, that is not good enough! At least you can blame the bad performance on getting instakilled.
I'm just kidding, nice to see more people doing these guides, if it can help randoms develop I am all for it :D

No. I studied linguistics and philosphy of language and one of my (many) jobs is teaching ESOL (I am originally a non native speaker of English also, tho fluent now) so while I know quite a lot about phonetics as applied to English, I would not describe myself as that by a long way.

Have fun :)

24:19 you said that unless you're an infiltrator the enemies will gun you down.

So are you implying that cloak DOES make you invisible and reduce the amount of enemies shooting at you?

Every once in a while the game is feeling generous and decides that cloak actually should cloak you from enemies.  But even then it doesn't stop them shooting AT you, it just makes them miss more often than usual.

Seems to me that tactical cloak should be treated as a temporary 90% damage resistance by the game mechanics, since the game mechanics can't seem to consistently make cloaked characters untargettable by enemies (and yet somehow does just fine making Hunters untargettable by heavy melees when cloaked).

lol Fury YaketySax totally made this video.

Good guide though. Only thing I mildy disagree on is far revives. If someone goes down I'll usually drop what I'm doing and beeline for them because I know some **** trooper or marauder is doing the same thing. Doesn't always work out but I'm not a fan of getting left alone with 2 banshees, 2 brutes and a ****load of Marauders. Still within the theme of maintaining control I'd say.

To me anyways it sounds like a typical aussie one. But then again my accent doesn't really sound that Aussie to begin with. (Not exactly sure what mine sounds like actually:huh:)

And the amount of 'mericans that have said I was from Britain is higher than those who guessed I was from Australia.

I used to do that, but with pugs, that normally tends to be a massacure. Trying to clear some of the area first is more of a survivaility option

Great vid, hope lots of people watch it. Lots of general info on there that seems like common sense, but takes a long time to learn how to do.

Agreed!

A mod should sticky this imo.

Actually a lot of MP threads should be stickied. That's what made ME2 so easy to learn and discuss when I first came to BSN.

Well if their body is surrounded by brutes and cannibals or whathaveyou sure (though I have sometimes gone for the revive anyway and not have them react unti I'm already done rezzing). But I'll still try to get to them. And if someone's about to stomp I usually try to take it out first (thinking of the "scumbag marauder" moment in the vid).

Problem with revives is when the path is clear, you try to revive, but magic button takes cover instead, or does nothing at all, and by the time you're unstuck from cover, the hoard has arrived.

Not much that can be done in that situation though.

The one thing I would like help with is, how do enemies move and how to kite effiectivly? I noticed on jade that if you stand in certain spots, they would keep on spawning from the same area, through a certain path. (Was against cerberus, didn't work with collectors)

I knew all but watched it anyway bc you are a sir.

2 things bc they are related to things you mentioned:

1. About saving bosses for last, they also won't respawn if you kill them last

2. Most people don't think to do this, but people have a bad habit of just reviving someone as soon as they get in range. Try to position yourself in cover when you revive, and try to revive through corners etc...

At 05:17 and 13:25 in this video I have better hair than Sirian, as always. At 23:55 I realised that it was nearly midnight. Then I got to the end and found out that Sirian is Keyser Soze.

A fantastic video that was enjoyable to watch and listen to.
