Dragon age awakening: soo.... the origins endings mean nothing?

So I wake up...eat breakfest and then make some tea...and promptly spit out my tea when I go on my computer and see the latest news.

A expansion in the works already?coming out in 2 months?! Granted after the DLC/patch 1.03 Biowares sense of time reminds me of "valve time" so the expansion may be in a long while.

I then watch the trailer and I must say... I'm displeased.

Allistair walking around as king, Oghren as the only old companion who joins, you being the origins warden or a new one from Orleis...I must say I have issues with this. One of the good things about wrpgs like dragon age is choices and endings. Awakening mentions even more moral choices in it. Yet, it feels like the ending in origins may be ignored, completely taking away some of the fun of it being a RPG.

Let's start with the warden for example. Now if he sacrifices himself, you can play as a new warden- makes sense I suppose. But if you're the original warden from origins...will people notice? Will allaistair have different lines for you? Will people say, "nice job against the archdemon back then!"? What of my equipment and level? Granted it seems like you get captured so maybe your equipment is gone in the beginning...but what about all that loot I kept in my camp/fort?! I would think being lvl.23 with starfang and such is going to cause issues despite the level scaling when you compare it to mr.noname the new warden commander with no unique items on him at the start.

Then there's allaistair. He's alive? And king? Where's Anora? Where's Loghain? If Loghain joined my party, would he and anora be talking to me instead? What about if Allistair sacrificed himself in the end? It feels like that's not accepted as a ending in awakening. Either you die, or if you import your old character, only the morrigan baby ending is cannon?

Finally, the expansion mentions a old companion rejoining. If you watch the trailer, the clip at 1:20 confirms its Oghren.

Wait........what?

So out of everyone who can join me, only Oghren does?

First off, in my ending Oghren sobered up, had a baby (named after me ) with that dwarf woman in the tavern next to a lake, and I think he became a general of some such. I don't think it's his only ending. If one ending still has him as a drunkard, and another a sober (compartively) family man, how is he going to act in the expansions?

On top of that, what of my other companions? Wynne, Morrigan, Shale, Allistair I can understand...but if I told Sten I can accompany him to Qunari lands?
What of Leliana if you romance her?
What of Zehvran whos ending says he follows you wherever you go?
Finally, where's my damn DOG?! I named that dog dorfsbeard and it followed my dwarf beserker everywhere. Did it run away? Hit by a truck? Mabari are supposed to be loyal companions and I don't see how in the world my character and his dog split ways.

I get the feeling I'm going to be disappoint when I import my old character and half his accomplishments and endings never happened. Even with a new one, I'm willing to be a lot of things will be cannonized sadly that people will disagree with.

Whew, rant done just my 2 cents

First you don't lnow that any of that will always be the same if you lode an old save. Think for a bit. Why would they let you start a whole new character? Couse you didn't sex up Morrigan and died! Everyone is so DRAMATIC about DLC. Maybe what you say is true or MAYBE that was just a trailer of what might happen depending on your choices. It is to soon to tell. So calm down and SHUT UP.

No know saying for sure, that it's Oghren. People are simply guessing that from a clip in the trailor that plays about 1:20. If you pause it and look real hard, it does look like him a little. However don't forget it could be the back head of some Nameless NPC

There are several things to factor in. They said favorte. I do not think Personally Oghren is a favorite. I like him well enough, get along with him and he has tough skin. But if Bioware assumes I like him soo much I want him in the LDC. That's not true.

To me personally his storyline is done. Not much else to know about him, not much to do with his storyline. Just remember Bioware has not confirmed who it is, so it's still up in the air.

As for the ending, It's strange if Allister is King and he was killed slaying the arch demon or in the lands meet and you were claimed king. Do they simply ignore the entire wipe fest of his death, or is there something more. Plainly, if you had him killed. Then he should not be in the expansion

or he shouldn't be king. Why give us a choice if he lives, only to take it out of our hands in the expansion. There are only a few npc's companion's which you can't decide who lives or dies. Does Allister simply stand up form the grave stone, and say "slaying that arch demon was fun, but guess what...Herreess Johnny"

BH why do you all asume that that is the only whay it could be? In the game you know how you can make Alistair king or Anora Queen? And then at the final fight in Deniram the one you chose made that big speach. Well guess what MAYBE if Alistair is King in your game he will be King in the DLC or say if you made Anora Queen she will play the part we say in a TRAILOR...

Really now? and what about the endings where allastair dies? time and time again people say "dont worry" about a upcoming product. They don't voice their concerns in hopes there will be no issue and when the product is release, it's too late.

I really do think it's oghren since there's not that many red hair dwarves out there :/. It could be Oghrens brother/family or some such but it's doubtful. It's a dwarf with red short hair and a 2 handed axe. He wasn't my favorite either but Bioware wouldn't say "a old companion which you liked somewhat but could have been more interesting is returning!"

Allistair's death is my main issue. If there's no Anora/Loghain then one of three endings has been nullified. Considering Morrigan, I bet the cannon ending will let her have a baby even if your warden sacrificed himself but that's just a theory for now.

The trailer probably only shows the continuation of one of several possible playthroughs. I guess if you made Anora queen, the clips where you see Alistair, he will be exchanged with Anora, or maybe even yourself. It's true that there's a dwarf with a resemblance to Oghren at 1.20, but there's also a woman with a slight resemblance to Leliana earlier. However, if he is in it's because he is the only character you cannot actually get rid of, and hopefully he is not the only one of your old companions that can join.

Edit: typo

What part of what I said did you not get? If Alistair dies in your game I would assume he will not be in the DLC. Just becouse he is in the Trailor dose not mean he is automaticly going to be king in YOUR game.

Well, the problem with Oghren is that I kinda hoped he'd be making little Oghrens with Felsi on the shores of Lake Calenhad. I worked hard to give that poor dwarf a happy ending, don't tell me I have to take him away from his family. Meanwhile, Zevran stayed in Denerim with me.

I don't see the big deal. It's a trailer. They couldn't have different trailers for the different endings. So what if Alistair is in the trailer? Does that mean he'll automatically be in the game even if he died at the end of Origins? Isn't it a little too early to say?

Allister's death is my concern as well, I too am curious about the choices you made. I don't like unexpected things happening when you already decided the fate of one direction, to have it twisted in a way that way it's cheapen the effect of the expansion by bringing them back to life without so much as a detail why.

I am happy and apperciate this new expansion. While it's months away. I do not see in the harm in Bioware, maybe releasing a few thing's about this in the product details so it ensures what we are buying. If I was King In part 1, I would like to stay that way in the expansion.

if not, what is the point of part 1

what i don't get is why people are reading so much into a trailer?

on the dragon age origins trailer it shows morrigan fighting a dragon, and she certainly hasn't in any of my save games.

the trailer couldn't possibly show all the different endings and possibilities, alistair being king is just 1 of many and likely a popular 1 which they picked.

i believe you will have most of the old companions available, with 1-2 obvious exceptions the old friend could be someone you met before you joined the greywardens or as is highly likely its meeting morrigan.

i cannot believe they'd scrap all of those characters, many are massive favourites like Leliana/morrigan and alistair/zevran

Clearly some people didn't understand the epilogue texts.

Morrigan not fighting a dragon? Which trailer? The Sacred Ashes Trailer?

*coughs* note the name of that trailer... High Dragon doesn't come to mind?

Yeah srsly guys. They showed ALISTAIR because it's the most COMMON and OBVIOUS way to continue the game. Really, the game HOLDS YOUR HAND to make Alistair King. All other solutions are much less obvious. So marketing dictates that the average joe gamer would probably identify with this ending most.

Things you can count on.

If you took the OTHER pap you'll get a blurb and Anora or Loghain will probably do all the dialogue that you see. More likely Anora since she's queen, though Loghain will probably pop up at some point or another.

Alistair will NOT be rejoining the adventure this time. So it matters little if he's King or not. If He's King he'll give you the "Expansion Mission Briefing." if not, then Anora will give it. That really doesn't make it hard on Bioware at all. There's 2 freakin choices. Alistair or Anora. And if you're prince-consort then it will definetly be Anora.

The only problem will be with romances like Leliana and if you undergo Morrigan's ritual. But i'm sure you'll amicably part ways one way or the other.

After all, there is NOTHING about "New Romances" so there probably aren't any.

I cant believe how naive some of you can be. This expansion is going to canonise the ending of DA:O as Valkeyr has said. From what I have read and watched, you are the warden commander, so any choice you make at the end that doesnt involve taking over the wardens and rebuilding them is wrong. Why give these choices if they knew they were going to pull this?

Alistair is alive and king and no its not some alternate possibility, regardless of what you did in DA:O. Any person who agreed with Anora and had Alistair executed is wrong. Why give us a game full of choices just to take the lazy route out and canonise the ending. That is what it comes down to at the end of the day - the developers are lazy.

Aye same here. He could leave his family/baby if he hears the darkspawn returned, but I still remember ser Joren...
I think Oghren became a general too? meaning he has soldiers by his side?

I know but with no faq, I can't be too sure. Perhaps Allistair isn't king and Anora is queen? But what if you're a male human or female human? You have custom endings for that too. Will bioware spend the time for these? or will it narrow the endings down?
Also, you say bioware could keep the endings in mind. But then what happens to the companions who follow you in their endings?

This.

It seems to me that the inclusion of Oghren as Awakening's only returning party member is simply the easiest way for bioware to continue the story while still honouring all the choices of the previous chapter. Why is this, you ask? Well, because Oghren is the only party member (save Morrigan.. and we all know her story probably won't be that of a returning party member) who can't die in Origins... at least that's what the epilogue overview on the wiki tells me.

All the other different epilogues can be explained through dialogue, for instance:

PC: "Hey, where is [insert name of love-interest/party member here]!? She's supposed to be my loyal companion for at least another decade!"
NPC: "Well... you know... this and that happened and the two of you got separated for a short while, but I promise you she'll be back in a day/week/month/year or two, after dealing with this and that in that other land where you can't go right now because you have this other thing to attend to."

Oghren's epilogue could also be defended through dialogue:

PC: "Hey, Oghren, I thought you went back to Flimsy (or whatever) and had a child and so-forth... what the hell are you doing here?"
Oghren: "Well, I sort of put the whole family thing on hold for a while, to help you get rid of this recent and most terrible darkspawn threat..." etc., etc., etc.

It's a cheap way to do it, albeit very easy to implement... Still I sincerely hope this is not the case...

You mean a 1:38 trailer didn't spend its entirety showing all the permutations of how the story could be continued? What the heck, Bioware! Obviously, you didn't account for my ending, and the whole story is ruined, and forever after I will be unable to enjoy spring breezes, food will have lost all flavor, and there will no longer be joy in the world! HOW COULD YOU?

i understand the epilogues perfectly thank you very much, what i am saying is that in 1 of the trailers it shows Morrigan fighting a dragon, however in the game i removed morrigan from my party after lothering so shes barely fought anything bar a few darkspawn.
what im trying to get at is the fact that trailers mean nothing, they show possibilities so whether Oghren is in the new awakening trailer or not it means very little.

I actually think that would be hilarious if it did happen but seriously, I'm pretty sure that it will take into account the choices you made or else they would just make a single ending not lots of different ones and tell you chose the wrong one.

exactly, listen to this guy people, theres no way they would put all possibilities in a trailer. if they did it'd be about 20 minutes long for one thing.
