Sounds like a real working solution is just around the corner. But I, too, am wondering if this is presently working, or active, and which PW servers have "subscribed"? Can a list of active servers be posted?

Good to see so many folks in the community expressing so much interest (and gratitude) in what we all consider to be one of the greatest "legacy" games. This kind of forward thinking is very much appreciated.

A new patch coming tonight supports the new changes, as well as Skywing's work with NWNX.

Two servers are talking to the production / public one, the others are still stuck on communicating to the test server. Functionally, it works, I just need to update the website and push out the patch.

Just tell me when you want me to change my server back to talking to the main nwncore server, Visavant.

I have a bit more information. On searching the files for strings, I've found the following obvious web references:

nwmain.exe
520E10 nwmaster.bioware.com
520E68 nwauth.kr.infogrames.com
52180C %s.master.gamespy.com
522978 peerchat.gamespy.com
522310 ms%d.gamespy.com
All offsets from the start of the file are in hexadecimal and I expect that %d and %s would be replaced with nwn before trying to resolve the address. (Edited)

nwserver.exe
25E7A7 master.gamespy.com
25E880 nwmaster.bioware.com
25E8D0 nwnauth.kr.infogrames.com
Again, all offsets in hexadecimal.

I hope this information is useful to someone.

Per Skywing's NWNx implementation, and NWNCore, the only modification handled is %d.gamespy.com

Take another look, Visavant. You missed the ms before the %d. And I'm pretty sure it's master.gamespy.com which needs to be changed, not ms%d.gamespy.com.

For querying / GS, 52180C - 5218020 (len 15)
Replacement : 25 73 2E 6D 61 73 74 65 72 2E 6E 77 6E 63 6F 72 65 2E 6E 65 74

It then maintains the FQDN with the game name from hex 25, 73.

I am not a host, but a player. Trying to keep information updated on our forum:

Kinky Kingdom Kissmet (social server)
http://z13.invisionfree.com/Nwnkiss/
IP:  209.170.160.112:5121

Please, simple instructions on where to download this Patch. This is for players as well as Host?
Is this link correct?
http://nwvault.ign.c....Detail&id=1448

What does our Host need to do?

There is a lot of technical talking here and those of us who like to play NWN 1 but even though we have our favorite servers (I use the quick connect on my desktop), there might come a time we might want to go surfing, and now we can't.

Thank you for all your hard work!Posted ImagePosted Image

It has become very difficult, near impossible, to get vital topics like this stickied in the NWN1 forum anymore, but here is one sticky thread you may want to declare your server information (or have the admin do it if you prefer).  Once the GameSpy replacement has been thoroughly debugged and released (probably on the Vault???), lists like this will not longer be necessary (if I am interpreting what the effort is aiming to achieve correctly).

I've added Kinky Kingdom Kissmet to the Social server list in my forum:
http://nwnserverlists.boards.net

To temporarily change to using the new servers, without having to patch the exe files, follow these instructions (the For Dummies version):
* Open Notepad (or another text editor) (Use Run As Administrator in WinVista or later)
* Find and open the file named "hosts" (if it exists). In Windows, the file needs to be located in C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\drivers\\etc and if using Notepad, you need to change "Files of type" to "All files" in the Open File dialog.
* At the end of the file (or in an empty file if it doesn't already exist), place the following two lines:
199.193.152.27 nwmaster.bioware.com
198.23.165.35 nwn.master.gamespy.com
* Save the file as "hosts".
If you're using Notepad and need to create a new file, Notepad will automatically add the ".txt" extension to the file name making it "hosts.txt". After saving the file, use Windows Explorer to navigate to the folder and then remove the dot and the txt extension, otherwise the file won't work.
* Reboot your server (you shouldn't need to do a full computer reboot) and your server should then be using the replacement servers.

Don't forget that neither server has full functionality yet, and it's doubtful whether the replacement master server will ever have it.

I'll see if I can package up my Liberty Basic patcher and make it available somewhere. It's not the neatest solution, but it does work.

I've tried to update the hosts file, but am unable to do so, as the computer refuses to either change it to non-txt or to save as non-txt, nor delete the previous file. I'm using win7 64 bit, and have tried using both notepad and notepad++ for this. Any help would be appreciated.

You'll probably need to run Notepad as Administrator for one thing. You also may need to change the file permissions on the "hosts" file. Since I don't often use Win7 and never 64 bit, I can't advise you how to do any of that. Hopefully someone else here will.

I'm on Windows 7, 64 bit. Yes, you need to right click Notepad and choose run as administrator. Open the hosts file from within notepad using File>Open rather than by dragging the file into notepad. Set it to view all files in the file types dropdown. Just save as normal when done editing.

Are there any ports that need to be forwarded (I mean, other than the ones needed for NWN to work) if my server is part of a network?

The short answer is no.

The long answer is, so long as you either patch the exe files or redirect using your "hosts" file, nothing else should need to be done.

It's in read only mode, right click \\ properties change the R/W access.

The server receiving the new GS forwards is up as of a week or so ago which many servers are reporting to now, giving me ample ability to iron out bugs as I go along. The public listing end of it for client consumption should be available around December 30th.

The game server port is the only port needed.

Thank you to all who've been forwarding now, it's allowed me to ramp up quicker on what needs accomplished, and further the extensibility of what can be done. I'll keep everyone up to date here on progress.

Fantastic work on this Visavant!

Even if all we have is a list of servers for direct connecting, that's enough to keep NWN/NWN2 easily accessible.

As a host/builder I am very grateful for the efforts you and others in the community are putting into this. Are there any costs associated with this and how can we contribute if we want to help?

This is so amazing!  I want to say thank you to everyone who is working on this!!!  In the meantime I just wanted to post a web page that gave me some traffic to my server last night.
http://www.nwnlist.com/

I'm not sure how my server got on this list but it allows you to add these servers to your favorites list.  Very cool.  Thank you to whomever is responsible for that.  I now have a second wind to create more server madness.  Awesome!  Although I'm sure my wife is not amused...
