I'm soloing with a rogue with Stealth III now (lvl 10) atm I can enter stealth whenever I want in combat and run away (unless I'm taking damage from being on fire or something). In what way is Stealth IV better, since I can't imagine what I'd want more than what I have now and being only solo I don't have much skills to spare (ie: can I just stop at stealth III?)

With stealth 3 a lot of bosses will still spot you, I believe with 4 you can sometimes hide from the Archdemon itself.
I usually stop with 3 figuring it's good enough.

Well for soloing it quite essential I can run from bosses so I guess I'll go for it but not right away then.

Yeah with Stealth III Bosses won't let you stealth. Stealth 4 and the ability from Warden's Keep make it so you can nearly always stealth.
So if you're soloing you probably will want it before you come up to the harder boss fights.

The game wouldn't allow me to stealth in front of Ser Cauthrien, stating my stealth rank wasn't high enough, despite it being level 4.

Not even stealth 4 and the abilities granted in the warden's keep combine enable stealth in all instances. There are a few fights were combat stealth without rank 4 is impossible and, because they're usually the harder fights, they're the ones where it's usually needed most.

With rank 4 you can stealth in front of most bosses, but not the last few.

Is stealth a flat score based on the four ranks in Stealth, or does the stealth 'score' increase with Cunning as well? ( beyond the 22 Cunning requirement for Stealth IV).
The DA Wiki says that is the case for Lockpicking, but there's no mention of a bonus to stealth.

Well in front of Sloth my char get's "your rank in stealth is not high enough" which I guess implies the ranks in stealth are the key. (PS the mouse can do it though so no prob

what abilities do you get in Warden's keep that help with stealth? All I got was a potion that gave me some blood abilities...

Are you a Rogue? Those blood abilities differ by class.thelebk wrote...

I've noticed that so far I've been able to be stealthed all the time with stealth 4, except when
- already having continuous damage one me.
- getting accidentaly hit by a scattershot
AND
- when walking into a warcry active zone (the reddish one) from warriors.
this one seems to work as a decloaking device (strange and annoying since it's continuous)

Ahhh, good to know.

Annoyingly enough: Stealth 4 and 33 cunning does NOT allow me to stealth near Flemeth.

Rank 4 Stealth will let you stealth against most mobs but not Flemeth, High Dragon, Archdemon, Ser Cauthrien and I think Gaxkang. Can't think of any others right now.

I am a cunning built rogue my cunning score is 90+ at lvl 25 and with the rank 4 stealth I can sneak up on every boss in the game, Stealth checks are based on a rogue's cunning score plus stealth rank. It works a lot like the deft hands skill but the stealth ranks unlock additional skills like stealth in combat and using items while stealthed.

I'd love to know what cunning is needed for each of the ones Timortis mentions (in addition to stealth 4). If I can't stealth I can't beat Flemeth atm.

Sure you can, with a bow and fire resit gear/pots
That is why it can be beneficial to kill the High Dragon first.

It's actually faster to melee them, than use a bow, you just have to keep circling to avoid being grabbed.

Another thing to keep in mind, if you still haven't decided yet, is that Stealth IV makes using items less likely to break your stealth. With III, you will sometimes be spotted while throwing flasks on enemies, but with IV, you can almost do it with impunity, even against some bosses like Branka.

So no cunning value with let you stealth near Flemeth?

I think that talent is Rally, not War Cry. Thanks for the information, as I'm going to play a Rogue next.

Not much to add, except that with Stealth IV, I could sometimes stealth in front of the Archdemon, but that seemed fairly random since sometimes I couldn't. And this was during the same fight, on a playthrough I just finished last night, so I'm fairly certain about this (although I have no clue what governs whether you can be seen or not in that instance).
