What the hell happened with Sun? According to this article www.solarmonitor.org/ there were no flares in last two days. And the Sun is szupposed to be in its own maximum and also in the end of 11 years long cycle. So maybe somebody can explain to me how´s even possible that sun act like this.

It might sound like stupid bull****..but what if sun is powering itself up..you know what i mean (calm before the storm). One big solar flare in next days/weeks/months is possible and results of such event might be catastrophic (destroyed satellites, power outages, and so on). And in the end  according to this article news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2004/09/0909_040909_earthmagfield.html our own Geomagnetic field is fading. (protection against flares, radiation and all of that crap from the universe).

My own guess: Geomagnetic field is gone. The question is for how long and if some really powerful flare will hit us. For now, the Sun is inactive..but how long ?

Probably everyone will see auroras like they reported in the Carrington Event. I'd expect a bunch of satellites to go out as well maybe some major blackouts in the populated areas near the poles (Canada, Alaska, Russia, etc)... but if you are near the equator I doubt you will see anything other than pretty lights.

And there is a meteor swinging by the Earth next weekend as well! Good Lrod, we're all going to be VAPORIZED!!!

Or... you know... this type of activity happens on such a regular basis its not even news. Solar activity goes up and down as regular as my great aunt's bowel movements. The sun isn't plotting a secret, special, Super Move like in DBZ to destroy the Earth. At best, a very powerful flare will disrupt satellite comms for a few days.

Mid 2013 is the peak. With there being no flares since the last major one a few days ago, it is a sign of a major build up by most estimates. Likely when it finally releases coupled with the issues with the magnetic poles your looking at a magnetic flip, and Moderate to major EMP damage that may take years to fix, if society doesn't rip its self apart. At the least all the Sats are FUBAR same with Cell phones, other wireless tech.

Worse case with one in a trillion odds the world gets set on fire, flips over, we all die. lulz. Which hey I won't be around to care for long with that one. The more likely one all I can say is, don't have your ass in any planes.

But in all seriousness, this event isn't a joke or tied to Mayans. If it happens it will be the end of the world as we know it and the current tech based society. And its a real issue. A number of world governments are scrambelling over this, and a early Warning system has been thrown into orbit. The last time this happen the most advanced and high tech item in use was the telegraph. And all of them and there wiring had to be replaced.

The sun is something with huge power over the earth. In fact its hicup a few days ago was the length of the Earth to Mars, and had a power a thousand times greater than every nuke ever on Earth. I fully expect some time in 2013 we will see a major disruption to the Civilian sector in reguards to telicommunications in the least.

At the most I will make some Lord *insert some cool name I have yet to make up* title for myself and enslave you all in our draconian wasteland. You have no choice in the matter.

This is your last chance to convert over to worshiping the Lord of Light. Perhaps we will be spared if you do.

True in this case. It's a fun time too, we light stuff on fire, stare into the flames, burn people in the flames, yell out catchy phrases.

This thing with the mayan calendar is so funny, it's like every December 31st we would ****** ourselves with fear the world is ending because the calendar is over.

Talk about borrowing trouble.

Anyone with knowledge of Astronomy, Astrophysics or Physics around to discuss and explain what a star does? Because, you know, the sun is a star.

Or it continues and does what it does and the Earth continues for yet, another day. How about that? Very mundane yes, but the simplest solution is usually the right one.

Oh no, we're all gonna die on this measly rock hurling through space.

Well, the sun is a massive fusion reactor, of which we have next to no practical understanding of.
