Or it continues and does what it does and the Earth continues for yet, another day. How about that? Very mundane yes, but the simplest solution is usually the right one.

Oh no, we're all gonna die on this measly rock hurling through space.

Nope, you've angered the Lord of Light so the sun is going to kill us somehow. And yes we are all going to die on this rock because of it.

I certainly hope so. Then I don't have to deal with mindless drivel such as doomsayers freaking out or people who talk aimlessly about politics. Its a win-win situation.

Anyone with knowledge of Astronomy, Astrophysics or Physics around to discuss and explain what a star does? Because, you know, the sun is a star.

It explodes and kills us all.

Still though if it actually were to explode (which I'm pretty sure isn't going to happen because our sun is too small) at least it would go down with us.

Well are you okay with being burned so we can please the Lord of Light then?

This thing with the mayan calendar is so funny, it's like every December 31st we would ****** ourselves with fear the world is ending because the calendar is over.

It's December 21st, the winter solstice

You betcha. Sleep well tonight and don't forget to look under your bed for the "monsters." But really, that's just your strange cousin... you know the one.

First prize goes to you for stating the obvious! Good job. That's science. Problem solving at its finest.

Lighten' up, dude. We all (err, well, all but two of us) know this isn't anything particularly unusual.

Beyond 2012: Why the World Won't End

Q: Is there a danger from giant solar storms predicted for 2012?

A: Solar activity has a regular cycle, with peaks approximately every 11 years. Near these activity peaks, solar flares can cause some interruption of satellite communications, although engineers are learning how to build electronics that are protected against most solar storms. But there is no special risk associated with 2012. The next solar maximum will occur in the 2012-2014 time frame and is predicted to be an average solar cycle, no different than previous cycles throughout history.

I'm sensing a lot of negativity in this thread. Why don't we all sit down over some tea, and talk about it?

Actually, the sun is being over-siphoned, which is why it's currently having issues.

Yes, cause I am being oh so very dark in comparison to the doomsayer who started the thread. Yes. Using wit and sarcasm is very dark. Wow. You have opened my eyes to the..."light."

Then again, if that is "light" I would hate to hear any other "theories" on the end of the world. Science you know, it takes all the "fun" out of it.

Nope, I'm going to stay up all night burning stuff like anybody who cares about our planet would do. Don't they teach you kids anything at school anymore?

If you actually want to discuss science and what is going on in regards to solar activity. Hey, go for it. I think that would be very interesting.

Dark energy? The Lord of Light and ME3 have dismissed these claims.

I for one am also for the BS being cut and people talk about something meaningful.
