been playing a dalish warrior and i'm really struggling, i focused stats +2str alt +1dex/con per lvl
but i just keep dying, all the time; over and over and over....:D
to the point that i'm seriously thinking starting over i don't think it was meant to take 10-15 to defeat a single group of bandits, my strategy has generally been to have alistair and sten as meat shields and plug the rest with arrows (it's the only one that gives me a chance) running away to revive my party then going back for the rest, but this takes FOREVER and it's really making the game suck for me, which isn't so cool cos i seriously like everything else about this game.
game is on normal difficulty, which i've never had a prob with b4

firstly is there anything i can do to save this character?
LV6 my stats with extras are: STR 23 : DEX 19 : CON 18
I focused on archery. for my skills

secondly is there an easier or more enjoyable race/class choice?

Well for starters as an archer you should be more into DEX than STR. I don't know how do build a great archer but I am shure you want more points in DEX.

There are lots of enjoyable races and classes. It depends on what you enjoy. Most people who go warrior though are either shield & weapon tanks, or 2-handers, or dual wielders. Most who want to go for an archer roll a rogue. That said, the warrior archer can be done, and very well, I'm told. I just have no experience at it.

What is your favourite style? Do you like to run in and bash things? Do you prefer to stand back and nuke? Do you like support or attack, or a combination of both?

i definately thought of rogue, but my experience from most other games is that they're too squishy,
my preference is usually 1 on 1 rogue/assassin/archer, but i enjoy all of them.

i think i made the mistake of approaching this game as i would most other single player games, when it's gameplay is actually designed more as an mmo would be...

Made my Dalish* warrior into "Drizzt" dual-wielding fury, but it did not prevent him from dealing good damage with a bow from what I remember. Later in game I was even considering to pick up at least some bow talents.

This is to say that if you are dying a lot it is not probably because of your current build. You are relatively low level so "fixing" should be easy. As mentioned, that you are an archer does not have to mean you can not use a sword or two occasionally. Pick your talents and aim for their requirement and imo you cannot go really wrong. Later, with points spare, investing in Dex will give you at lot of chance not to be hit.

If you are getting killed it indicates you draw a lot of aggro, assuming it is your character dying, so use your team-mates according to their abilities.

*city elf ..sry :(

If you're running a two tank/two archer party no wonder you're eating dirt. Only the truly hardcore play without at least one mage.

I'd put that character aside and start a new dual-wield rogue. Your archer is probably fixable, but you might have more fun starting over. Rogues are squishy, so are archers of any class. You just work it so they don't get hit. That's what Taunt is for. And dirty fighting and riposte.

Start a new rogue, stop adding points to strength at 20, take dexterity to 36, everything else into cunning. Get a couple daggers and go to town.

I find archers boring anyway.

Follow this link and read for really good info on the dual wield rogue:

They are 'squishy', but mine is kicking ass, and hasn't died yet. You've got to play them right.

Do it yourself

There are many good reasons not to use auto level up. It doesn't take very long to do it for yourself, and that way you also learn how your characters work.

Another great reason is that auto level up is more or less random and very bad. It's not easy to make worse choices for yourself, even if you try pretty hard.

It's just as important to level your mates properly as it is your pc.  Auto level is garbage.  That, and your choice of party probably explains your troubles.  I'd start over...

Edit:  I can't even comprehend playing without a mage....  Having a mage will make things much easier --> Cone of Cold will help you out big time.

I use a mod that stops the game from giving my companions any points in anything before I get them, that lets me set them up properly from the beginning. There are also mods that let you respec both your own character and your companions. Umm ... if you have a pc.

Whatever you do, though, don't let the game auto-level them. Like swooping, it is ... baaaaad.

You could also have a look at the wiki and read about the preferred order to visit each area (based on the lower and upper limits of Bioware's hard-coded challenge scaling for each area).

Yes Susan. Swooping is baaad. LOL, bah I guess I may need mods like that. The way I solve it is to pick up everyone as soon as possible and then manually turn the auto-level up, off (yes, I know it's tedious and it requires a certain fixed route around Ferelden). And yes RandomEffing, rogues are squishy. But they can take a few beatings before going down (although that shouldn't stop you from getting them to safety / rescuing them). They sure are fun to play (but that goes also for the warrior class. I myself still need to make one. As of now they way I level up Alistair is getting STR to 42 first to wear the best armour and then dex for a bow to pull mobs (so I probably will do the same with a PC warrior build). In the end it all depends on what you're looking for in a fun gameplay.
