since games have  voice acting they have to call the hero something

No they don't.  NWN2 demonstrates this very effectively.

NWN 2 was not fully voiced. Many interactions between the NPCs were text-only.

Also I'm pretty sure NWN 2 required the player to have subtitles on at all times. Not everyone prefers that.
I personally have no problem with it as I always play with subtitles on, but in more cinematic circumstances, many people find them annoying.

My point is that the voiced lines did include the NPCs addressing the PC, and never did they refer to the PC by name.

The subtitles sometimes did (even for voiced lines), but not the voices.  As such, it's possible to have the NPCs address the PC without using his name.  Therefore, fixing the name is not necessary simply due to the voices.

Since BioWare knows this, we must then conclude that BioWare fixes the PC's name for some other reason.

I want to have a first name set, not just second. Its a lot better, because no friends or family would call you by second name - EVER! And i don't give a damn about "it breaks my immersion" - i want a firs name set, and voiced!

She says "ma vhenan" - my heart. Lath means love but is not the word she uses. I would suppose lath refers to the verb of loving somebody while vhenan is seemingly used in the elven phrase for "my darling." Swedish does the exact same thing btw.

Yea I know she says "ma vhenan", but what I'm not so sure about is just how the wiki came to believe "vhenan" means "heart" and "lath" means "love". With no sources to back up how they came to it or even an explanation, it seems more like they're guessing at what it means as opposed to actually knowing what it means. IMO.

In fact, that's more or less what it seems to be on the wiki. Some words are able to be easily translated, but others seem to be more like they're guessing at what it means. Whether they're right or not I don't know, but it's still guessing in my book until a dev says "lath" means love. :wizard:

People do that a lot in real life, actually. To their friends anyway.

And the family in DAII never called Hawke "Hawke". It was either brother/sister or darling or whatnot.

Indeed. I've no idea why people find using the surname so strange -- my brother is almost universally referred to by his last name, even by his closest friends, for example. And I've had a lot of class mates where it was similar from what I could tell.
