I'd say it was the weakest, due to loosing even more rpg elements and exploration and autodialouge.

Bioware really lost the plot in me3, it felt more of an action game than a rpg and they need to fix that, if you say somthing is an rpg make sure you add more than two elements of rpg in the game.

No, ME3 is bad, but not the worst. ME2 was the worst. When I say "worst" I mean story. I don't care about gameplay if story is terrible.

hey .. mass effect 2 had no real story at all .. Posted Image

i loved me2, because of the spuadmates ... they are the salt of mass effect. the mainplot was just icing on the cake - nice to have but useless.

Not really. ME2 is the worst of the three.

Still a great game though.

Yup. ME2 was a primitive FPS clone with third person view, primitive powers and dialogues, wich was the thing that saved the game, along with the plot (which still isn't as good as in ME1).

ME2 was the worst actually, though ME3 wasn't much better.

ME2, really? I mean I know the plot was pretty much non-existant and the RPG mechanics were **** but worse than ME3?

Can't say which worst, each game had it own strong and weak point.

mass effect - best narrative and plot, weakest combat system.

mass effect 2 - best dialog and characters design, half ass combat system , unconnected plot

mass effect 3 - best combat system, weakest narrative and plot.

ME2 having no plot almost ruined the whole game for me. ME3 might had a ALOT of problems in the plot, but at least it had one. ME2 only focused on the characters. While the characters were really great, in my opinion it's not enough to build a story. Plus, ME2's combat was a nightmare for me.

ME2>ME1>ME3 imo.

Considering how much improved the combat got, it really says a lot about how much the auto-dialogue/fetch quests/ending hurt ME3. Sad .

Each game has its own strengths and weaknesses.

Mass Effect 1 had the best element of mystery and ambience. Mass Effect 1 allowed you to either go right through with the mission, or explore and complete side quests pertaining to the mission. It also had the widest range of customization and it had the most exploration.

Mass Effect 2 had more interesting side missions. It had the best dialogue and cinematics. The idea of loyalty missions was also a great concept. Through DLC, there were also boss fights.

Mass Effect 3 had the best combat and it also introduced multiplayer.

If you combined all those elements together, I'd say that's pretty solid game right there.

Can't really seperate them personally. They were all great, but all had their failings. Personally Mass Effect 3 is my favorite, but I won't bother arguing that it is the best. In combat, graphics etc. definately the best.

For me, yes. But my criticism revolves more around things like your choices from earlier games being largely ignored or pointless, the abysmal ending, not being able to import your character (and I know they claim to have fixed that, but haven't, and I base that on the fact that, to date, I still haven't been able to import a character, I still get the same generic face).

It's not. It's really not. Try replaying Mass Effect 1 once in a while. Just tedious, frustrating and not at all enjoyable to play. Especially not Feros or Noveria, which are the dullest, most tedious and poorly written of the main plot missions and also happen to be the longest sections of the game.

I am replaying ME1 and finished Feros,on my way to roaches on Noveria - and you are wrong. Nothing dull there. In fact those 2 are more interesting then half of ME3 missions.
Priority Earth vs Noveria... lol.

Not the worst, but it's definitely not the best. ME1 is by far the worst IMO. There's no fun in playing it after completing it a few times. I've only replayed it to import my Shepards into ME2, not in order to enjoy the game.

Despite it's many faults ( and yes it has many, many faults ) ME2 is my favourite game in the trilogy since I feel it got the balance between action, exploration and rpg elements just right. I do however concede that ME2 has the weakest story ( well, that's not really true, it's more correct to say that ME2's story is completely unrelated to ME1's and ME3's and as such it is the black sheep of the Trilogy ).

To me ME3 is the weakest game in the Trilogy since I feel that the essence of what makes a Mass Effect game a Mass Effect game was removed from ME3. ME3 is missing some key element that the other two games had and it is poorer game as a result. ME3 is a Gears of War game set in the Mass Effect Universe.

While I do agree with alot of what you have said here ( and as such logic dictates that I should consider ME1 to be the weakest game in the Trilogy ) I do find that I do tend to give ME1 a "free pass" as it were simply because Bioware were creating something from scratch on brand new hardware that they wern't used to using.

I am less forgiving of ME3's faults because Bioware has grown alot since the days of ME1, they seem to have a bigger budget to work with since production values have obviously gotten better, better graphics, better combat, more cinematics. They have had more time to get feed back from the fans, to correct the short comings of the first and secnd games, they know what we like and what we don't like, they knew what we were expecting from ME3 and they still let us down. For ever 2 steps forward that ME3 makes it could be argued that also makes a step backwards and I do feel that ME 3 is just lacking something that just doesn't make the game work for me. You kind of expect progress in game series, you don't expect things go in the other direction.

Yes, by a large margin. I really enjoy both ME1 and ME2 though so it's hard for me to decide which one is better. The lack of story in ME2 never troubled me, since the main plotline of ME was never that good to begin with. Besides, I'd rather have no real story at all, than the one we got in ME3.

So yeah, ME3 is the worst, with weak story, removal of core features that made earlier Mass Effect games Mass Effect and the overall direction of the game was pretty bad too.

Yep.

Say what you will about ME2, at least it didn't make it so that everything I tried to do felt pointless and stupid.
