All three are great, all three had flaws, but ME1s combat is the only thing that keeps me from replaying one of the games, so I have to say ME1 is the worst.

I'd rather take ME2's story instead of ME3's any day, every day.

You can take ME2 if you like but you will need a magnifying glass to find a story in the game.

Reapers are rounding up humans to create a new Reaper to replace the one that was destroyed in ME1. Theres your plot, simplified.

Sad thing is that you don't even know if that was what was going on, It's not like Me 2 could even lower it self to offer that little explanation ..and ME 3 just doesn't care about what happened before.

But in the end ME 3 tries to move the plot - sure it fails miserably but it tries - ME 2 is just ..nothing.
I personally prefer the game that at least tries over the vacant completely pointless ME 2, No matter how terrible that game is.

I just finished the game for the second time about 15 minutes ago...if anything I am in a bigger state of shock than 8 months ago!

Might have been the best for another year in development and a different ending. Four things would have made it the best:

Priority: Earth should have been more like a Suicide Mission pt.II with assets instead of squadmates.
Conversation wheel instead of autodialogue.
Actual exploration instead of BS search and rescue "fetch" quests.
Proper and respectful treatment of ME2 characters (including differing character arcs depending on choices made in ME2), especially LIs. (This one out of all of them still bothers me the most, I would happily trade Liara, James, EDI even Tali if I could have some of my ME2 crew instead).

Even if they'd kept the same dumb ending, catalyst and all, I would of enjoyed the game much more had they included these things.

Yes you do, y'know that whole bit on the suicide mission where people get liquified and shoved into a Reaper yea? You want everything in a plot to be explained in the first 10 minutes? The structure of the plot was akin to an investigative story. You're not supposed to know what they wanted with the humans until the end game, so you didn't.

Its like complaining of not knowing what Saren really wanted other than to bring the Reapers back after Tali's recording. Its a stupid complaint.

I think from a gameplay perspective, ME3 is the best in the series. What makes it the worst is how the story is executed. It's woefully inconsistent. The opening sequence has some truly cringe worthy dialogue - "We fight or we die" sounds great as a sound bite... but it is a crap strategy that is in conflict with Shepard's previous actions. We have great segments like Tuchanka, but we also have the Crucible storyline which is so ill conceived that it was doomed well before Shepard hits the big button at the end of the story.

The thing is Mass Effect 3 has some of the best and some of the worst writing in the series. Ultimately I feel that the bad writing moments doom it to being the worst in the trilogy personally. But YMMV.

Yes, it is. But, all three ME games are still way better than any other rpg's I've ever played, so saying ME3 is the worst is still a compliment to me.

Lol. But Mass Effect 2 was? A game that not even displayed weapon stats? Had a linear weapon upgrade path?
Squadmates with at best 3 talents?(and this only after their loaylity missions)

Mass Effect 2 was a barebone rpg and Mass Effect 3 have more rpg elements, not less.

autodialog and fetchquests are considered to be filler in modern RPGs to force storyprogression and fix plotholes. in Me3 its the RPG-core elements.
The fact that graphics and combat are the only elements that have been improved without sacrificing something else in this category should be enough to prove you wrong.

Just because something is called an "RPG" doesn't mean its all about statistics, weapons and how many potions you have in your bottomless backpack. Mass Effect is an RPG due to the fact that you can actually "role play" as Commander Shepard with a full history of lore to create your own stories for your Shepard in the form of headcanon.

So yes, where it counted, Mass Effect 2 was far far more of an RPG than Mass Effect 3.

Yep, thats the sum of it.  Pretty much explains why multiplayer was so great.

ME2 > ME3 > ME1 for me.

ME2 had a great blend of gameplay, story and epic, epic moments.
ME3 has great gameplay, a decent story (if missing some of the heroic moments of the other two games) and an unbelievably fun multiplayer mode.
ME1 has a great story, epic moments but pretty experimental gameplay.

Look at games that are called Rpgs.Search for similarities between them. Find even one game aside from Mass Effect 2 that dont even display weapon stats.

Improved talents and number of talents for both Shepard and Squadmembers-->more Rpg,not less.
Weapon mods that dont existed in Mass Effect 2-->more Rpg,not less.

While not numbers at least a bar that shows the damage, firerate, magazine size of a Weapon--> more Rpg,not less.

And seriously, roleplay my Shepard? Who,as  the lone survivor not even got an opportunity to confront the Illusive Man with the slaughter of his squad done by Cerberus? Good joke.

I never said it was perfect, but that was the angle on the term "RPG" BioWare went for, and just because its labeled as an RPG doesn't mean anything. CoD and Dishonored are both FPS titles, you going to hold Dishonored to the CoD standard just because its a FPS? Forza and NFS are both racing games, is Forza less of a racing game because NFS has police chases?

With regards to weapons, you were told all you needed to know in ME2 though i agree that wasn't exactly well done. However if i had the option between MORE dialogue options and leaving the weapon library untouched i'd gladly take it in Mass Effect, whereas in ME3 we got less dialogue in exchange for mere statistics?

That is not a good trade off.

Well, I like the additional manuverability in combat and a few of the missions. Other than those, I didn't much like anything else in it so yeah. fror me, ME 3 is the worst of the lot.

Storywise definitely, but this already began in ME2 which threw the plot out the airlock. From a game perspective, the fetch quests and the poor side missions (kill cerberus troops on multiplayer maps, lololol) are also a big step-back.

Yes, ME3 is a good game but the worst in the trilogy. On the other hand, ME1 was so awesome that it is difficult to do better.

No. Storywise, it is the worst because it doesn't connect well with itself, cut several gems out like Ash's death question and Priority Earth scenes, and gave a plot hole filled ending, but definitely not the worst game. Saying it's the worst game simply because of the narrative shows a bias in your judgment placing story above gameplay, replayability, and other aspects which ME3 does do great with.
