So I just started replaying ME2. And affter ME3 it just jars me all the more that Sheperd has on N7 armor in ME2. I mean why? Sheperd is not working for the Alliance anymore. I get that it is the "iconic" look that Bioware wants for Sheperd but it is just pissing all over their own lore....
Sheperd having N7 armor is ME2 still bothers me...

The funny thing is n7 marines are suppose to have the best gear but, the n7 starting armor is always the worst armor in game.

There Cerberus also it wasn't stated that Shepard was removed from the Alliance they do almost court martial him at the end of Arrival so that leads me to belive he is still a commander in the Alliance during ME2, so N7 gear isn't improbable. Plus from what we can tell Alliance troops defect to Cerberus so maybe they brought some N7 gear with them?

If he had sense Shepard *wouldn't* wear his Alliance N7 armor while openly working with terror group Cerberus. Implications and all that.

And another thing that should bothers you, is that in ME3, Shepard uses Cerberus Armor.

If Conrad Verner can have N7 armour, then so can Shepard.

i think it just makes sense using the terminus armor because andersn even saids he'll keep the alliance off your back and it shouldnt be too hard if your based out of the terminus systems, but of course i dont have the armor so yea

Its so they can sell sneakers. Its marketable, thats really all there is to it. Just look at the top of this page, has N7HQ. Its a big galaxy, every race has special forces & military groups. N7 is one of many in just the Alliance alone. They are a small almost insignificant group in the scheme of things. Shepard is the first Human Spectre, he might of had ties to N7 in the past but you'd think that the armor you'd see him default to would be some kind of Council Armor. N7 started out as a part of Shepard's origin story & backgroud info on the Alliance, but they ended up looking allot like Star Wars toys. It bothered me for a while too, but its easy to see why N7 took more of a role as the series progressed.

The N7 armor is used to show that the person wearing it got through the rigorous program. It commands enormous respect, according to the codex, and can only be worn upon completion. Shep completed the program, so Shep can still wear it. The Alliance connection isn't necessarily the most important part.
That said, I roleplayed my sole survivor Shep as despising Cerberus for killing off her squad, in addition to the rest of the usual reasons. She wore the armor to show where her loyalties lay, though she had to temporarily ally with Cerberus.

Y'ask me, the best armor in the looks department is the Blood Dragon armor. If you could remove the helmet, it'd be that much better.
But one obvious reasom to wear the N7 armor is that it's modular, and can be customized. Apparently a lot of armor sets aren't designed with that kind of flexibility in mind, expecting you to eat, drink, negotiate and kiss with a full face plate in the way. For example.
