Um, if Alistair isn't a good enough tank for you, then you're not speccing him right.

"Elfinage" is definitely a word I'm going to start using henceforth.

Only thing terrible and boring in it is the Brezilian Snooze. Good thing it's pretty short, and before it comes the Fade and after it the Orzammar and the Deep Roads. And the Landsmeet part in Denerim is not my favorite either, but again, thankfully short.

Yes, i still like the Fade, even after all these years :D

ill admit that orzammar was abit tedious, once you get knee deep in the thaigs it makes ity a pain to backtrack all the way back outside again.

the rest of the game is pretty neat however. the magi story was very cool from the beginning.

demons right off the bat? awesome.

i wish there were alignments, i mean yeah, theyre implied at various times, but theyd certainly add more flavor to party members bantering back n forth.

a flat out baldurs gate type party brawl would be fun now & again. especially during fights against enemies. lol. chaos.

just got awakenings. curious to see how long that is in comparison to the o.g.origins campaign.

as far as tanks, alistair/ sten/ max will work. get your hands on some constituition & physical resistance boosting gear.

still, as an overall defender/ aggro controller i would say that shale is probably the bestest. especially when your main mage is ripping nasty AoE spell combos like inferno/ death cloud/ & mass paralysis.

the only bad thing about shale is his mental resistance. controlling mages can make him a non factor real quick.

dont think ill be soloing any dragons on nitemare anytime soon.

This will sound weird, but I've never particularly used Shale much, other than chatting with her at party camp (which I always enjoy) and during her companion quest.

For some reason, it just seems 'wrong' having this big, lumbering behemoth wandering around with my party, who never seems to attract any undue notice from other people in the world.

My 'A Team' is, and will always be Alistair tank, Leliana as a ranged damage dealer, and my right-hand lady Morrigan in charge of crowd control and general nuking. I'll sometimes switch Leli for Sten or Zev, but Alistair and Morrigan are generally none-negotiable, particularly as I enjoy their constant bickering.

As for the OP's post....... BLEH!

The only times I use Shale are in the deep roads, her personal quest, and maybe a couple of sidequests but that is it.

My preffered team is Alistair, Leliana, and Wynne.  Sometimes I will use Zevran in Lelianna's place but I prefer using her to him.
