Hi to all. I made a tool for myself to translate Mass Effect 3. It also works for Mass Effect 2, as well.
The tool is not finished yet but i am working on it. It is usable and i already made some translation work with it. It makes its job.

If you wanna try this tool, you can download it at the project page, here on BioWare Social Network.

Project:
Mass Effect 3 Translation Tool project page

Features:
  • Open, edit, and save TLK or XML files, including XML files saved by Mass Effect 2 TLK Tool.
  • Ability to update specific string entries of TLK or XML files. That is good to join multiple translated parts in team translation projects or to translation of game updates or DLCs (not implemented yet).
  • Ability to save customizable test versions, that is good to identify specific strings on the game.
  • Edit strings side-by-side with a different language to facilitate language comparisons during translation.
  • String syntax colorization editor, that makes strings edition more friendly.
  • Automatic backup of multiple versions of edited files, that is good to avoid work losses.
  • Strings Browser to navigate through strings organized by groups.

Along with this tool, is the Mass Effect 3 TLK Library. This is a .NET class Library that software developers can use to add support for TLK file format on their applications.

Could this tool be used to modify content of in-game emails and/or datapads?

Well, i don't have Dragon Age Origins, so i don't know if DAO works the same way as ME2 and ME3 (with TLK files). It's a matter of going to DAO game directory and see if there is any TLK file.

And another curiosity, when you go to my tool project page, you can see that it is categorized as DA Utilities, right? But that is just because of a limitation of the project creation form here on the forum. It just don't have any Mass Effect categories as an option. lol

I think that you are talking of e-mails that we receive on the Normandy and data pads we find on missions, am i right?
Yes, all the text we see on the game is on the TLK file.

Version 0.6 is out now. Still no file update feature but it will come with time.
This version have some new features, with the best of it coming for developers. Now, software developers can open, edit, save and manage TLK files with the Mass Effect 3 TLK Library.

You can find more information on the project page.
I'm repeating the link here: Mass Effect 3 Translation Tool
