i dont mind tbh, although having just in the last couple of month found the mass effect series and still trolling all 3 games for countless hours it is nice to jump to my other fav bioware games and choose hawke or warden plus the added bonus of different origins in dao.
so basically i like both ideas and it nice to have both options depending on my mood
Would you like a 'central protagonist'?

Dear God no, please no. I honestly felt nothing for Shepard all the way through ME so I hated being stuck with them all through the series. Plus, for lack of a better word, it's more realistic. History isn't made up of just one man against the world, it's many.

I agree with this! Plus, I like the possibility that all your characters from previous games may encounter each other in future games.

depend on the game. If the story is fitting, as in ME, where it have non sense a different protagonist than Shepard, I like to have the same character.
o
In Dragon Age I would prefer a totally different protagonist, to create a new character. Expecially to get rid of that Hawke.

No, it makes the world feel smaller. Having one person be involved in every important event in a series's history is silly. Since Dragon Age is about many things rather than one thing (a la ME with the Reaper invasion) you play as different key people involved in the Blight, the Mage-Templar schism, and the Inquisition (whatever that means)

We don't need to look far to find a perfect example. Mass effect! Shepard was THE greatest main character I've ever encountered in a game and the possibilities for customization never ruined the experience, at least not for me. If DA:inquisition turns out to have a character the is equally awesome then I would see "DA:Inquisition II" as a gift from above! =)

A main character that crosses over between two game, three games in the series tops, sure. A character who hijacks the series and becomes the de facto central character around whom all future sequels revolve, this far into the series, no thank you.
I'm also tired of default appearance characters being used as marketing mascots and plastered all over game covers, but that's another issue, not directly related to this topic.
KOTOR was just fine without any kind of default version of the protagonist plastered on it; Sheploo did not need to be featured the way he was in Mass Effect. It only lends ammo to those misguided folks who like to go on about how Sheploo is the canon Shepard or how the use of default ManHawke on the cover of DA II is in indicator that BioWare is planning to establish a certain canon in future games, which is contrary to the way they do things when given a choice (TOR is licensed product and doesn't count).
