The smarter and safer decesion would be to just run over there when you have the chance instead of risk being overrun.
Only if you don't trust that your team can handle it

The team I do Platinum with would rather draw the enemy to one corner of the map then run to the LZ. We can hold the LZ but we get more full extractions this way.

Some are astoundingly defensible, like Dagger (despite two PoEs and three firing positions, effectively giving the enemy 90% of flanking capability at range), others suffer from "lack of defensible cover" syndrome or have LZs that hold no strategic value, while enemy positions in line have excellent strategic value.
My favourite LZ is most likely Dagger or Giant, both provide fair cover if you can hold both PoEs.

I can see holding the more defensible LZs. But if your team is good enough to hold the less strategically advantageous LZs, why waste time waiting for the enemies to come to you? Wouldn't it be more fun to storm across the map killing everything in sight if you can net that kind of DPS?
Yeah, I think Giant is the easiest to hold by far.GroverA125 wrote...

What is the point in holding the LZ for 120 seconds?

You should change the title to, "You suck and I don't."
I did not exclude myself from being a player not good enough did I?
If I was playing a level 1 character on Gold and had 3 "decent" teammates we wouldn't be able to hold the extraction most of the times, simply because the team composition of players weren't good enough.
If I am playing with a team where we have at least 2 good players and 2 decent players then we can easily hold the extraction basically every time on Gold. So I did not exclude myself from my statement since it is about team skill.

Because it is more fun than hiding like a coward on the opposite side of the map?
