The smarter and safer decesion would be to just run over there when you have the chance instead of risk being overrun.

Only if you don't trust that your team can handle it ;)

The team I do Platinum with would rather draw the enemy to one corner of the map then run to the LZ. We can hold the LZ but we get more full extractions this way.

I remember that game with that desk camper...as I recall we all got revive medals of him.It was fun watching him be stubborn.I only wish I had a team that I could hold the lz with...lol..as I said before you know by the time its time what to do....if I'm 45 min on gold and 15 revives ..you decide to stay...you will be alone....if it been 12 min and nobody died...whatever I'm with the crue...learn your team while you play it don't take long.It always amazes me when I go pug and drop in a game with someone who just shoots things and don't pay attention to his team and the people fallow him rezing him and not scoreing ..hes on top while I see what's REALLY happening and rez them.... then the next game they don't fallow and he dies and runs out of gells and the score is close

Explain to me how you manage to hold the LZ if you don't get a full extraction while doing it?

Some are astoundingly defensible, like Dagger (despite two PoEs and three firing positions, effectively giving the enemy 90% of flanking capability at range), others suffer from "lack of defensible cover" syndrome or have LZs that hold no strategic value, while enemy positions in line have excellent strategic value.

My favourite LZ is most likely Dagger or Giant, both provide fair cover if you can hold both PoEs.

this.

It's all fun and games 'til a stray grenade or boss projectile takes out someone/everyone 3 seconds before extraction. If I'm gonna hold out, I'm going to hold out away from the LZ at an ammo box with an exit strategy to get out of dodge and to the LZ with ~20seconds left. If you think it's the silly way, than think about it like this, if you hold the LZ the whole time, then extract, who's to say all those bosses didn't just shoot the ship down when yall got in?

Well, we can clearly see when the time is up that every enemy on the map dies. How are they supposed to shoot the ship while dead?

It is not silly at all to hold out on the other side of the map, I do it most of the times since usually I'm not in a team that is good enough to hold the LZ, most of the times when we hold the LZ it's with friends that can handle it or with very good randoms.

I can see holding the more defensible LZs. But if your team is good enough to hold the less strategically advantageous LZs, why waste time waiting for the enemies to come to you? Wouldn't it be more fun to storm across the map killing everything in sight if you can net that kind of DPS?

What is the point of running around the map trying to kill things when the enemies automatically respawns close to the LZ? Are you going to run to a side of the map to try and kill things when there's nothing spawning there? I fail to see the logic in that I'm afraid.

Yeah, I think Giant is the easiest to hold by far.

Indeed. The only thing to remember is that enemies will spawn in behind you. Be perpared to fight your way back.

It depends on your difficulty. White has a great LZ because you can cover the three entrances then enemy -has- to use to approach you. Dagger and Giant also have defensible locations. However, for the most part, it's usually safer to stay away from the LZ during the extraction wave till about 25-30 seconds remain. This keeps the enemy from swarming your position.

What is the point in holding the LZ for 120 seconds?

This isn't like a hack where you have to have squad members in the circle for the objective to advance. Although team members in the LZ accelerated extraction wave, that might be interesting.

Because it is more fun than hiding like a coward on the opposite side of the map?

I did not exclude myself from being a player not good enough did I? ;)

If I was playing a level 1 character on Gold and had 3 "decent" teammates we wouldn't be able to hold the extraction most of the times, simply because the team composition of players weren't good enough.

If I am playing with a team where we have at least 2 good players and 2 decent players then we can easily hold the extraction basically every time on Gold. So I did not exclude myself from my statement since it is about team skill.
