Hi

If anyone currently playing ME1 on PS3 (digital PSN copy) can tell me how exactly this mini-game works. I have tried pressing as fast as possible the correct symbol but I cannot get more than 1 correct - most of the time I get "failed" on first symbol:(((

I am not physically impaired and 37 year old so my reflexes should be OK. I have seen XBOX version in youtube and it _seems_ the same. However I happened to read that on PS3 it feels more demanding than on XBOX. So please PSN version owners can You give me any outs.

I play Infiltrator and use Shepards skill not squadmates (if that matters)

I was in the same boat. You just have to get use to it.

Why does it have to go so fast? It's really annoying, especially if you have input lag...

Just takes practice. I had trouble at first, but now I never miss them.

Yeah I hate it. I've gotten better but I still end up messing up a lot.

Really? For me it fails almost instantly - at least on Eden Prime. Maybe it gets better later - and do You play PSN version?

I found another thread that seems to confirm that PSN version has this problem

Seen the XBox version on YT. Looks a pain. If it was me instead of dividing loot into keep and sell it'd be keep, sell and convert to omnigel to open stuff without having to do that minigame.

Yeah - I though the same as a workaround - convert low level gear to gel. Sell high level gear to merchants and use that money to buy cheap stuff for converting.

But it still looks like a bug to me - and connected to PSN version. So if anyone owns PSN version and can report similar glitch then please do so.

Because I observed Youtube video of encrypting on XBOX and it seemed OK.

This might help, it works for me.

Select to decrypt. Cancel Out. Repeat two more times. Go back in to decrypt and watch your buttons sync up with the game.

There's some weird lag with it that going in and out of it a few times seemed to clear for me. Done this with every decrypt mini-game now and it's working fine.

Yeah, I'm on the PSN version. There does seem to be more time allowed before you have to press whatever button lights up after Eden Prime, but it could be my imagination or just me getting better at the minigame.

I got used to it after a while. I increased my decryption power level quite a bit. Not sure, but I think it was much easier to press the buttons in time.

I'm playing digital PSN ver. and have the same exact issues as Gaudum Tempus. It is so annoying failing even with max decryption and electronics. Granted Decryption and Electronics don't really affect the time just which you can open but still fustrating. My reflexes aren't slow, even went back to the 360 ver. and had no problem with it.

Also notice that when I do Resource Salvage or the Recover Artifact ones it's just like the 360 ver.. But when I try decrypting weapon lockers or crates there's no time to push a button. Seems with lockers and crates it's more luck than reaction.

Did some playtesting last night and I can confirm that Survey Pods work fine - I can decrypt 5 symbol combinations with first try. I also managed to decrypt one locker while recruiting Liara. Reloaded and tried again the same locker - instant fail.

So it seems to be connected to only lockers/computers/medical - Survey Pods are unaffacted of this bug. And You have some meager chance to decrypt if you do it ingame. After reload there is no chance at all.

I would not say it is gamebraking cause You rack up loot by killing enemies anyway and you can gel unwanted items but it is definately a BUG and should be addressed.

Initially I thought I was just bad at it, but now it seems kind of weird since all the easy ones require 2-5 tries (I save before and load if I fail) and the "harder" ones have never failed. It's really bad when it feels like a win to find a decryption that is "average" instead of "easy".

I always wondered if more skill points in decryption slowed it down a bit for making it easier, thus longer codes were easier, cuz to even try them you needed a lot of skill in it.

Or I just got better at it from playing and practicing.

Currently doing a second playthrough...

Not having ANY problems with the decryption. Trust me guys, it's not impossible. Just have to get use to the timing.

I played ME1 (3 playthru's with same character) when it was originally released for the Xbox 360. Never really had an issue with decryption (on Xbox 360) but have noticed that disc-based ME1 for PS3 *seems* to be more sensitive / less forgiving (at least with timing) than original ME1 Xbox 360 version. Also, IIRC, the gameplay difficulty setting *may* have some effect on allotted time for decryption.

Phew, I thought it was just me getting old.

I downloaded the PSN version, and am having huge trouble with decryptions. I had no problems with them in ME2 or ME3 on the PlayStation. And once I got used to the different controller, I was fine with them on ME1 on my XBox. But this one... Just can't do it. Again, the salvage QTEs I haven't failed. But even easy decryptions, if seems the time I have to do them just isn't as long, as I've failed before I can even enter the first button.

Got to the point where I save before every decryption now. :( I swear I'm not getting hamfisted. Even tried again on a later game to see if I'm going senile. Opened them first time.

I never used to be crap at this.

Help.

I had this happen to me also. Tried saving befor the one in Udina office after failing all on Eden Prime (though part of that was me not realizing the new minigame) and spent a good hour doing it. Got mad, turned the gam off and tried again today. Now it seems to work fine and I haven't done anything different, at least that I'm aware of.

I struggled at first but I'm ok at it now, still have to save before every try just in case but I can get them all eventually. Maxing out decryption on at least one character helps.

I am also having issues with it. I am playing on the disc based version and sometimes I can hack computers just fine. Other times it doesn't matter what I do I can fail on the first or the last. However hacking minerals and artifacts seem to go fine. I think that the hacking is supposed to be more like those and there is a definite bug causing the issues with the other hacking.

Hi all,

Having the same problem here with the disc version. Just finished Eden Prime and reached Citadel and I've only successfully decrypted the very first one (after reloading about 20 odd times) and failed every single one since (got a little tired of reloading so just decided to walk away from the locked items).

I'd really like to just enjoy the game without letting this issue kill the joy of the experience.

Can anyone advise if it's okay to simply walk away from all the decryption mini-games? Will I miss anything significant?

Never had a problem with any other mini-games in the other ME games but this one's killing me. *chuckle*

Having played the original 360 version I can't see any difference on the downloaded PSN version. Easy provided you're alert.

Granted, I've got a five year memory gap. Maybe it was easier than that.
