One thing I wish they kept for Witcher 2 was the first game's flashback image art. Witcher 2's is good, but still prefer the first one.

As cheesy as that moment was, it still managed to make me smile.

I didn't like the style used in Witcher 2. Witcher was much prettier, imo, even if they're just still images.

That's something I prefered as well.

Ooo, have to choose neutrality or the Order between White Rayla and the hostages.

What makes a man turn neutral? Lust for gold? Power? Or were you just born with a heart full of neutrality?

Chose to not get involved. Resulting in elves being chumps and getting snuck up on XD

Left without fighting.

Scrreeeeeeeeech.

Order started killing women and children to provoke the nonhumans!?

Well, I am a monster slayer.... Time to slay some monsters.

Now you're getting to the best parts of the game, imo.

Whoa. That's a good post.  Highlights a couple of very key things about the game, IMO.

The whole concept of humans being more monstrous than the monsters is often times one of those explored in Sapkowski but the game does an amazing job of establishing it, I enjoy how the theme is explored in side-quests (blue eyes, the werewolf quest, etc) and the main-quest rather seamlessly.

I'm also a big fan that even though the non-humans live horrid lives, they're not defaulted to the ones who you'd immediately side with as they're just as bad as the humans which they hate. I remember thinking the Dalish in Origins would've been more along the lines of Scoia'tael. When I played the game, I was mostly neutral as I sympthized (especially as I was nonhuman myself) but ended up going with the Order. Siegfried's my bro.

I assume you're not a fan of either factions now, Allan?

I agree. TW1's flashback art fit the series' aesthetic much better than TW2's.

Javed is dead. Grand Master told me he'd love to be skewered on my sword and I just hate to deny requests!

Siegfried is the only member of the Order I don't hate. I hope if I run across him I can show him the error of the Grand Master!

Well, he is a Grand Master - you gotta make all the dramatic villainous threats and such.

Now you're getting to the best parts of the game, imo.

Slightly agree, the intensity gets ramped up from here.

And Siegfried proves himself a lackey. :(

(Feel free to spoil it, but I imagine he's probably more of my ally if I had sided with the Order to begin with)

If you side with the Order, Siegfried joins you and gets appointed as the new grandmaster.

Killed Yaevinn. That felt kinda good. I am a monster slayer after all.

Wasn't really expecting the turn that it did with the ice lands haha.

Killed the Grand Master... myself. Not sure exactly what relevance the Great Hunt's presence really was, aside from telling me that wherever I go, death seems to follow (I already knew that).

Took my money, but then tossed it in some chap's face and killed him as he tried to kill the king. Looks like it was a witcher! Zounds!

Installing the second now.

Are you aware of the greatest plot-twist / speculation about the Grand Master's identity? I loved Jacques / the game but when I was made aware of it, it prompted me to replay and appreciate the game a lot more.

I had a feeling that he was Alvin, since he had the amulet and was gifted with powers. I suspect that he had the ability to not just teleport locations, but also time.

Now you're in for one of the best RPGs of the past couple years if not for the last decade.

...

Sorry better not overhype the game now...

Since you're heading into the second one, I hope you've got the time to invest for two playthroughs and enjoy the gameplay (it's simplified over the first one but can still feel just as exciting once you get into it).

Unlike the first one which choice influenced the flavor of the narrative, the second one has a lot of diverging content based off some prior decisions and it would suck if you don't have the time or feel the game is a chore.

I played through this one as much to play the second one.

I'm curious if the divergence is as well done as many have hyped it up to be. Unfortunately for TW2, it has a lot of hype behind it which will already kind of have me eying it more critically.

You could always wait a year more, then people will start downgrading TW2 as they've started with the first. Then one would play the game out of curiosity and sympathy and not be halted by the hype. :I

I do think there's a tendency for games that are considered great to become more mildly appreciated and for outright bad ones to be somewhat reconciled over the years.

Anyway, this thread brought back some memories that made me glad. Kudos for this!
