By how much (assuming my original premise is correct) did DA:O outsell DA2 during the first [insert timeframe here]?

Well, here's VG Chartz probably not overly reliable Xbox numbers

Basically DA2 outsold DA:O in the first week, but DA:O quickly overtook them.  Though note that Christmas was clearly having a big impact on DA:O's numbers. 

DA:O apparently sold more copies this year than DA2 did, which is kind of remarkable.

Agreed. I suspect that the Ultimate Edition helped DA:O's longevity quite a bit. I would go for a DA2 UE myself, but DA2 on it's own? No.
