How would you react if Bioware canonized Synthesis if they made a sequel?

I used to say that nothing would kill my interest in another Mass Effect game any quicker than a Prequel. That's not exactly true anymore. If they annouced a sequel that'd be great imo, but if they canonize Synthesis then i'm gonna wash my hands of the franchise and not even bother playing the Sequel. I understand that for some deluded reason they have unconditional love for the green ending, but at some point they're gonna have to decide what's best for the series, and hopefully they're smart enough to not roll with their fantasy ending.

They don't have unconditional love for Synthesis. I'm sure they regret it a great deal at this point.
I'm sure you're going to gripe that the developers tried to make Synthesis the 'best outcome' in the EC. Don't bother. They really didn't have any choice. They had to show Synthesis had some advantages over Control, else it would be completely pointless to pick it.

I agree with OP and also would not be playing ME4 if that was to be the case.

Seriously though, I'd be much happier if synthesis was canon than destroy. It's my personal head-canon.
Think control might be more likely if there's an eventual actual canon though. The midground.

I'd be horrified if they canonized any ending.

Won't buy ME4 if that's the case. No hard feelings, separate ways.

Not sure why all of the talk around here is about canonizing one ending or the other. How about they don't make any ending canon, and in true Mass Effect fashion: have the final choice carry over to the next game.....

That's not going to be possible without an incredibly unsatisfying hand-wave.

Sitting back and laughing at the nuclear apocalypse on BSN.
I still think that the current unpopularity of synthesis means nothing, really. If they can present an interesting setting, good story, and good gameplay, they will not suffer from significant backlash.
For political reasons, however, I don't see them doing it.

Personally after how disappointing Mass Effect 3 was compared to Mass Effect 2, I doubt I will be buying Mass Effect 4. Maybe one day I would decide to give further entries a try if they use the Destroy or Control endings, but if they use Synthesis then I shall not play them.

I'd say goodbye to Mass Effect, you were my second favorite video game series, but since you want to canonize something so stupid it's over, it was a good run while it lasted...
if they canonize anything it should be destroy, but I'd rather them work hard for once and figure out a way to make a game incorporating all 3 endings into it so no matter what you choose in ME3 it would be able to be imported into the next game

I think Bioware's smart enough not to incorporate any ending choice into their next game.
That being said, I highly doubt that if they canonize an ending choice that it would be Synthesis, based off the the utopian-esque ending you get if you choose it. If they did, what the heck could the conflict possibly be about going forward?

I don't see how they could make a sequel and still incorporate the ending choice. Refuse, in particular. Everything and everyone we know in the galaxy is dead and gone.

Synthesis, or the synthesis ending?
I don't believe they'll ever make any of the choices canon, but synthesis will happen regardless.
It's a game I won't be playing, in any event.

That is nonsense. This is based on what? A few comments by Merizan?

First thing I would do would be to stop playing and sign into BSN so that I can witness the greatest, most angriest nerd range ever to hit the internet...or at least since the original endings to ME3 came out. It would be a glorious day.
After BSN is shut down completely by the mods, I would go back to playing my game.

Only if the sex scenes are better and more hands on approach, better with kinect perhaps.

And the history they have of advocating synthesis as the best ending.David7204 wrote...

And why not? You have some other insight into their plans?
As for refuse, I imagine they'll disregard it as a failure scenario, same as Shepard dying in the suicide mission. It can happen, but you don't get any payoff from it. They let you opt out of the ending in the extended cut, but this also removes you from the setting.

Elephant Theory for the win; aka the retcon from hell. Forget the ME3 ending ever happened. The reapers were beaten and eliminated in this cycle because they could not win without their Citadel relay lockout strategy. The AI in the Citadel that was controlling them was found and destroyed. Allied forces win. Relays not destroyed or damaged. Crucible was never used.
Justification? Our war maps kept saying "Allied forces are holding steady and winning in key locations."
ME4 is now open for a sequel. Bioware gets to keep their word to gamers: "None of the three endings are canon"
